Coral trout grouper (Plectropomus leopardus) is the prospective aquaculture commodities with a high demand. Fingerling culture is the one of shortly rearing time methods for grow out in net-cages in order to produce continuously. Two hundred fishes with initial total length 16.6±0.5 cm and 72.2±7.6 g of body weight were stocked in each of three of concrete tanks of 4m3 seawater. Water replace as a treatment was applied i.e. A (200%/day), B (300%/day) and C (400%/day).respectively. Feeding frequency of pellet was done twice a day of about 3 - 5% of body weight. Survival and growth of fishes were monitored during two-month period. The result showed that the different percentage of water replace had a significant role in increasing the growth and survival rate of the fishes. Water replaced of 400% daily (treatment C) gave the best survival rate (97%) and growth performance (TL 21.61±0,54 cm; BW 156.84±1.05 g). In contrast, the treatment B (300%/day) and A (200%/day) resulted in a lower survival and growth , i.e. (SR 95.5%; TL 19.51±0.52 cm; BW 140.96±0.08 g) and A (SR 93%; TL 19.08±0.30 cm; BW 132.2±2.65 g)., respectively. Keywords: Coral trout grouper, growth, survival rate, water exchange

ABSTRACT In order to elucidate the effects of stocking density and feeding frequency on the growth and survival of Wallago attu, post-hatch larvae were stocked at different densities (1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 individuals per liter) and fed with (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5-times per day). The results indicate that stocking density and feeding frequency had significant influences on the survival rate of the larvae (p<0.05). In particular, the survival rate of larvae decreased at trials with high stocking density (p<0.05) due to the cannibalism. The percentage of cannibalism decreased in treatments with low stocking densities. Regarding effects of feeding frequency, the proportionality between the survival rate of larvae and high feeding frequency was observed in this study (p<0.05). The survival rate of larvae reached 50% when fish were fed 3 -5 times per day. The cannibalism had negative relationship with frequency of daily feeding. The cortisol concentration in fish blood is considered as an indicator of stress levels of fish. The results of this study indicated that cortisol concentration of W. attu reared at high stocking density and fed 1-2 times/day was higher than that in other treatments. Therefore, stress levels of W. attu could be one of the main factors causing cannibalism and reduction of survival rate at larval stages. This study provided useful information to enhance the effectiveness of larval rearing of W. attu via controlling stocking density and feeding frequency.

Golden travelly is a type of fish that can live on the surface, belongs to Carangidae family, for a length of 5-8 cm can function as marine ornamental fish with the name of yellow crime or yellow samba, and can be  used for consumption. The study was conducted to determine the effect of length on the initial stocking of fish seed to the growth and survival rate of golden travelly. Fish samples were cultured fish golden travelly of 45 days old hatchery and stocked with density of 300 pc/tank in 9 tanks with volume of 1 m³ feber/tanks. Golden travelly were fed with commercial fish by feeding frequency of 3 times/day untill satiation. The tested treatments were based on initial different lengths i.e., treatment A (1.5 to 2.0 cm/pc), B (2.5 to 3.0 cm/pc), and C (3.5 to 4,0 cm/pc). Feeding was based on 10-15 % of body weight. Measured variables were body length growth, survival rate, and quality of water. Growth and survival rate were analysed using analyses of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the growth rate of fish golden travelly Gnathannodon speciosus Forsskal was best at treatment B (2.5 to 3.0 cm/pc) with 7% per day and 92% survival rate. Keywords: fish seed golden trevally, tanks , growth, and survival.

Holothuria scabra larvae on different seagrass substrates. By: Lisa Fajar Indriana, Yuli Afrianti, Sitti Hilyana, and Muhammad FirdausSandfish Holothuria scabra is marine commodities with a high economic value. Overfishing of natural stocks has compelled an interest to begin aquaculture practice. Settlement is a critical phase for the planktonic larvae as they will transform to benthic form in the presence of substrate. This study aims to evaluate the settlement preferences, growth, and survival rate of H. scabra larvae settled on different seagrass leaves. The research was conducted using the Completely randomized design with four different species of seagrass leaves and five replications. The treatments consist of Enhalus acoroides (L-1), Syringodium isoetifolium (L-2), Cymodocea serrulata (L-3), and Cymodocea rotundata (L-4). Initial number of larvae was 1,000 individuals and the substrate was set with same widthof 12 cm x 17 cm for each unit. Results of the experiment indicated that settlement preference and survival rate of H. scabra larvae was significantly affected by seagrass used as substrate while no significantly differences was observed for growth of larvae. E. acoroides showed the best result with 0.26 ind. cm-2 settelement preference and 10.66% survival rate, so that suitable to be used as settlement substrate in H. scabra hatchery.

This study aimed to evaluate the growth, survival rate, and resistance to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) of white leg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) by using Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus fermentum, and Pediococcus pentosaceus mixed with feed, and at the same time supplying CNP in a ratio of 15:1:0.1 to the water. As a result, the treatments that shrimp were fed with feed containing lactic acid bacteria (LAB), especially L. plantarum, have increased shrimp growth, total hemocyte cells, granulocyte cells, and hyaline cells significantly (p < 0.05) in comparison to the control group. The supply of CNP to the water has promoted the intensity of V. parahaemolyticus effects on shrimp health and significantly decreased total hemocyte cells, granulocyte cells, and hyaline cells by 30–50% in the period after three days of the challenge, except in L. plantarum treatment, which had only a 20% decrease compared to other treatments. In CNP supplying treatments, the AHPND infected rate and mortality of shrimp were higher than those in other treatments. In summary, the supply of CNP had significantly reduced the shrimp’s immune response and promoted the susceptibility of shrimp to AHPND in both cases of use with and without LAB-containing diets.
