Abstract A pot trial was conducted to identify the effect of adding rice organic residues (ROR) to the potting soil and spraying chelated zinc (CZn) on the growth, flowering, and corm characteristics of the Freesia hybrida plant. An RCBD experiment was adopted with two factors and three replicates. ROR comprised three levels (0, 4, and 8%), and CZn included three concentrations (0, 20, and 40) mg.L−1. The findings revealed that applying ROR at 8% and spraying CZn at 20 mg.L−1 significantly increased leaf number, shoot dry weight, total chlorophyll content in fresh leaves, and total soluble carbohydrate content in dry leaves (6.66 leaves. plant−1, 8.76 g DW, 48.79 mg.100 g−1 FW, and 1.50 g DW) respectively. Also, the same treatment combination realized significant results for the number of florets per inflorescence, floret diameter, floret vase life, number of corms per plant, and corm diameter by (12.85 florets. inflorescence−1, 7.03 cm, 8 days, 3.66 corms. plant−1, and 2.33 cm) consecutively. Further, adding ROR at 8% and spraying CZn at 40 mg.L−1 significantly increased the number of inflorescences (5.33 inflorescences. plant−1) and inflorescence length (39.10 cm).

Temperature is a primary factor that affects the rate of plant development and has great impacts on plant growth, metabolism, and yield. A study was conducted to analyze the effects of elevated temperature on rice morphological and the physiological growth. The research was arranged in a nested randomized block design consisting of two factors, temperatures and rice varieties. Elevated temperatures were provided through the uses of different materials of plastic roof and walls to have an average and maximum temperature of 27.6 °C and 41.6 °C (T1); 28.1°C and 43.8 °C (T2), and 29.5°C and 47.1 C (T3), respectively. The study used three varieties of rice, “Ciasem”, “Ciherang”, and “IR64”. All rice varieties showed signifi cant increases in tiller number per hill and shoot dry weight, but had a decrease in the stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, and SPAD values at grain fi lling stage with the increasing temperatures. The number of tiller per hill increased when temperature was elevated from 27.6 to 28.1 and 29.5°C by about 29.9 and 21.3%, respectively.

<p>Tomato is one of the agriculture commodity that has many benefits. However, the production of tomato in in low land is still low so it needs effort to increase production. Issues that facing in low land cultivation are high temperature and uncertain water availibility. This study aimed to investigate the effect of watering volume on growth of tomato. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse and Laboratory of Plant Fisiology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University. Research was conducted from December 2012 to May 2013. This research used completely randomized factorial design with two factors of treatment, namely variety of tomato were Opal, Gondol and Mutiara and watering volume (4,4 l, 3,42 l, 2,34 l, and 1,28 l in each watering). Data were analyzed by analysis variance and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test level of 5%. The results showed that the higher of watering volume increases the growth of tomato. Plant height, number of branch, leaf area, dry weight of shoot, dry weight of root and the length of root increase with increasing watering volume. The appropriate tomato that can be developed in the various watering is Gondol.</p>

<p><em></em><em>Identification of Indonesia sugarcane varieties tolerant to waterlogging has not been done extensively. Information on varieties tolerant to waterlogging is required for seedling establishment in waterlogged areas. The purpose of this research was to identify the sugarcane varieties responses to several duration levels of waterlogging at seedling stage. The planting materials used were collection of Sugar Factory Semboro including VMC 76-16, BL, PS 862, PS 864, and PS 881. This research was arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was 5 varieties; the second factor was waterlogging treatment with four levels, i.e. without waterlogging, 2, 4, and 6 weeks of waterlogging in the bucket. The results showed different level of tolerance to water logging among the varities. PS 881 and VMC 76-16 varieties were the most tolerant to waterlogging supported by its ability to maintain plant height, root volume, root and shoot dry weight after been waterlogged for 6 weeks. These varieties were also able to establish aerenchyme tissue and increased the stomatal density. PS 862 was the least tolerant variety to waterlogging. <br /><br />Keywords: aerenchyme, morphology, stomatal density, waterlogging, water stress</em></p>

The objectives of this research is the effect of fertilizer dosag and embedding on the yield of corn (Zea mays L). The method of the research use factorial design based on the Randomized Block Design with two factors of treatment. The first factor was fertilizer dosag (without fertilizer (P0), fertilizer dosag 250 kg/ha (P1), fertilizer dosag 500kg/ha (P2)) and second factor was embedding (one time embedding at age 3 week (B1), two time embedding at age 3 and 6 week (B2), three time embedding at age 3, 6 and 9 week (B3)) and each kombination of treatment three times replicated. The result of the research : (1) There was interaction between fertilizer dosag and embedding for parameters  100 seeds wet weight and dry weight of 100 seeds. (2) The highest yield was treatment combination P2B3 (fertilizer dosag 500kg/ha and three time embedding at age 3, 6 and 9 week) for parameters  100 seeds wet weight and dry weight of 100 seeds .(3) The highest yield treatment fertilizer dosag treatment P2 500kg/ha and  embedding treatment B3 two time embedding at age 3 and 6 week.

A product of pyrolysis of residual biomass called biochar has several benefits into soil. Bio-charcoal formed by burning organic waste which will produce activated carbon and organic carbon and will be added to the soil. The purpose of this study was to evaluate biochar ability to improve soil fertility and increase the production of paddy crops with two planting systems. Legowo planting system is intermittent cropping between two or more rows of rice plants and one empty row. The research was conducted in Tanjung Garbus’s Village, Deli Serdang District with an elevation of ± 50 Meters above sea level. This research used a Factorial Split Plot Design with two factors that was treatment of planting systems as main plot (S), consist of 2 (two) stages: Jajar Legowo 2:1 and Jajar Legowo 4:1 and the sub-plot was biochar application (B) consisting of 3 levels namely, without biochar application, 25.5 ton/ha, and 50.5 ton/ha. The results showed that planting system significantly affected shoot wet weight and shoot dry weight and biochar application had a significant effect on shoot wet weight and no significant effect on shoot dry weight. The interaction showed no significant effect on all parameters.

Bentazon [3-isopropyl-1H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-(4) 3H-one 2,2-dioxide], cyperquat (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium), and perfluidone {1,1,1-trifluoro-N-[2-methyl-4-(phenylsulfonyl)phenyl] methanesulfonamide} were evaluated for their potential use as postemergence herbicides for selective yellow nutsedge(Cyperus esculentusL.) control in Kentucky bluegrass(Poa pratensisL.) in field studies. High rates of these herbicides as single or split applications were effective and only slightly reduced verdure of Kentucky bluegrass, indicating excellent selectivity. In greenhouse studies perfluidone exhibited growth retardant properties. Shoot dry weight production was inhibited and root dry weight of treated plants was markedly reduced. These two factors are undesirable features for commercial sod production.

Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is one of the spice plants that have high export value and propagated by cuttings. Use of internodes number and growth regulator were needed as a way to provide a good of planting material through cuttings. This research aimed to determine the best interaction between internodes number and concentration of Rootone-F growth regulator on growth of pepper (Piper nigrum L.) by cuttings. This research was carried out in experimental garden of Agriculture Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Ngemplak, Sleman, Yogyakarta, since February – May 2019. This research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors. The first factor was internodes number which were one, two and three internodes. The second factor was concentration of Rootone-F which were 50 ppm, 100 ppm, and 150 ppm. So there were 3 x 3 = 9 treatments combination. Cuttings wit seven intenodes without Rootone-F were used as control. The result showed there were no interaction from two treatments in each parameter. There were no significant difference between control and treatment of each parameter. Internodes number has significantly affected in paramater percentage of life, day of emergence shoot, shoot length, number of leaves, number of root, root volume and shoot dry weight with the best result were cutting with 3 internodes. Concentration of Rootone-F has significantly affected in parameter percentage of life and day of emergence shoot, concentration 100 ppm and 150 ppm better than 50 ppm.Keyword: Pepper plant, cuttings, internodes, Rootone-F.

This study investigated the effectiveness of mycorrhizal fungal multi-spores and inorganic fertilizers in increasing NPK uptake and growth of maize on ombrogenous peat soils in Riau. The experiment, which was carried out in a plastic house, was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, consisting of five replications. The first factor was the application of mycorrhizal fungal multi-spores, consisting of two levels (with and without application). The second factor was the application of inorganic fertilizer, consisting of three levels (P0: without fertilizer, PM-1: mixture of 225 kg Urea + 100 kg SP-36 + 75 kg KCl + 1000 kg Dolomite, and PM-2: mixture of 450 kg Urea + 200 kg SP-36 + 150 kg KCl +2000 kg Dolomite). Observed data consisted of agronomic observations, soil observations, and mycorrhiza observations. Agronomic observations consisted of plant height, root dry weight, shoot dry weight, and N, P, K nutrient uptake, and soil observations consisted of total and available N, P, K nutrients in the soil. Meanwhile, mycorrhiza observations consisted of infected roots and spore populations. The data obtained were then analyzed using DMRT to see the significant effect of the treatments. There was no interaction effect of mycorrhiza and compound fertilizer on the variables of shoot and root dry weight, but the interaction effect was observed on the variables of of shoot N, P, K uptake and root P and K uptake.

This study of the effect of major Norin 10 dwarfing genes (Rht1, Rht2) on kernel number in spring wheat emphasised three near-isogenic pairs of spring wheat, differing in the presence or absence of both genes. Plants were grown under controlled environment conditions with equal light intensities at their tops and were restricted to main stems by repeated tiller trimming. The dwarf wheats had a higher proportion of shoot dry weight in the spike at anthesis, an effect which field studies suggest is closely associated with their production of more kernels per unit land area. Stems of dwarf genotypes were somewhat shorter as early as 50 days before anthesis (i.e. before floral initiation) but relative differences became especially great commencing at 35 days before anthesis. Apex and spike lengths were never very different. A greater proportion of dry matter was distributed to leaf lamina from 50 days before anthesis until the end of lamina growth in dwarf wheats, while partitioning to stems was lower from 50 days before anthesis onwards. Partitioning to spikes was only higher in the 15 days preceding anthesis. Stem water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) contents at anthesis were greater in dwarf wheats but maximum spike WSC contents reached at about 15 days before anthesis were lower. Spike morphogenesis including floret production and grain setting did not differ generally, except for a tendency with dwarf wheats for a longer floral initiation to anthesis interval and for more kernels per unit of spike weight at anthesis. The major unique feature of dwarf genotypes, the higher proportion of dry matter partitioned to the spike, appeared to be due to reduced competition from growing stems in dwarf wheats rather than intrinsic differences in the growth potential of their spikes.

<p>This research aims for finding out the response of chili to type of sound and composition of substrate in hydroponic systems and obtain the optimal composition of substrate in chili planting hydroponically. This research started from August 2014 until February 2015 at Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta using Completely Randomized Design that consists of two factors. First factor was sand type with 3 levels and the second one the composition of substrate with 4 levels. Data of observation result have been analyzed based on F test at 5% grade and average comparison test using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% grade. The Pearson Correlation test is used for analyzing to observe the relation of inter variable. The type of sand is not interacting with the composition of substrate except at observation of green leaves. The best growing and development of chili is at pure sand beach has the highest value it can be seen from fresh weight of root, root dry weight, plant height and canopy fresh weight, and the composition of the substrate (sand: palm wood fiber) 3:1 indicated by the root dry weight, plant height, canopy fresh weight, shoot dry weight, the weight of fruit per plant and the sum of fruits per plant.</p>
