Abstract Community empowerment is one of the effective strategies in conservation efforts. However, empowerment-based conservation still leaves some problems to be solved. The most significant issues in empowerment-based conservation are sustainability and human resource issues. This study sees the problem can be solved by integrating religious aspects in empowerment-based conservation efforts. Through its teaching about the environment, religion can instill values and shape the behavior of people and people who care about the environment. For demonstrating this possibility, this study reviews the literature available in discussions on the role of religion in environmental conservation, community empowerment, and conservation efforts. From the existing literature, religion instills values, shapes behavior, and ensures its sustainability. This is possible through features in religion, such as the message of responsibility in the concept of divinity, karma and reward/sin, or other features such as the ability of institutions to spread values that are intertwined with the emotional, cognitive, and even political aspects of society.

One of the primary challenges faced by Skill Training Institutions in Malaysia is finding appropriate cure for disciplinary problems among trainees. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify disciplinary problems in Skill Training Institutions, such as Giat MARA Center in the state of Johore and methods implemented by the trainers to address the problems. The research used a qualitative approach based on multiple case studies design. The samples for the study based on purposive sampling were selected trainers who have served 10 years or more. Data were gathered via episodes of in-depth interviews, direct observation during theoretical and practical teaching sessions of trainers and document review of trainees’ wrong behaviors. Data were analyzed inductively by applying thematic analysis through open, axial and selective coding. Data showed that trainers implemented various methods such as being considerate, giving advice and motivation through value attributes and religious aspects and punishment method where necessary to address these problems. Further analysis of the findings produced themes that were used to develop several approaches based on religion, humanity and punishment method. The role of religion in moulding the characters and personalities is seen as an important resource with emphasis on programs that educate the soul to be obedient to God. Meanwhile, humanistic approach emphasizes the inculcation of moral values in the life of the trainees while the punishment approach is meant as an educational process to be more responsible for all offenses committed. The approaches can be used to aid trainers in overcoming the disciplinary problems among trainees of Johore Giat MARA Centers, in accordance with the nature of the problems.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a concise overview of available research work on Islamic principles related to human resource management (HRM). Design/methodology/approach With the purpose in view, an effort was made to collect books, journal articles and research papers. The selected works cover the period from 2003 to 2014. The reason behind selection of this period is the fact that during this time, an increased emphasis on religion, particularly Islam, has been felt the world over. The ideas and inferences out of those works have been compiled in a concise and ordered form. Compilation of ideas has been thematically arranged on the basis of different areas of HRM which led to the findings of the study. Findings Business organizations in Islamic countries or those being managed by the Muslims generally claim to follow Islamic management principles. However, practical adherence to these principles varies in various shades depending on national and organizational culture. The reviewed literature covers the theory of HRM and identifies the Islamic principles related to it. Mostly, the researchers have elaborated the Islamic guidelines related to HRM; however, a few have also ventured to find out practical application of Islamic principles and their efficacy. Research limitations/implications Books and articles included in this review do not present wholesome picture. Although random selection from various authors and journals neutralizes the limitation to some extent, a more comprehensive review may improve the findings. Originality/value Religion has proven to be a driving force in the display of human commitment and devotion in various forms of competitions including war. Identification of the role of religion in business can open new vistas in HRM. The glimpses of the role of Islam in business, especially HRM, included in this review can have far reaching impact.

Agama disini, menjadi sebentuk the hidden form of capital atau modal yang tersembunyi. Kata kunci: Agama, Integrasi, Konflik dan Rekonsiliasi AbstractThe assumption of secularism that the role of religion will diminish after the Enlightenment is not proven. Allegations of religious erosion in the public sphere are unfulfilled. Although there is secularization in society, but the process does not affect individual consciousness. Religion is still a social capital and gives effect to the struggle of modern society. In its most militant to subtle form we feel the influence of Confucianism and Taoism in China and Taiwan, Christian Charismatics and Pentecostalism in South Africa and India, Orthodox Christianity in Russia, Islam in Indonesia and the spirit of capitalism in Eastern Europe. Here, Religion is being a form of hidden form of capital or hidden capital. On the other face, religious sentiments, also not infrequently cause a lot of disputes. Conflict among religious people more and more we find. This is an era where the counter to secularization is actually getting stronger. Religion always presents an ambivalent double face, a glue and source of integration on the one hand, but also a separator and a source of confidence on the other. How people who do not know each other, coming from different parts of the world can be awakened by religious sentiment. On the contrary, how fraternal bonds fade due to different religions or religious understanding. Keyword: Religion, Integration, Conflict and Reconciliation

Abstract Social distancing is crucial in breaking the cycle of transmission of COVID-19. However, many religions require the faithful to congregate. In Malaysia, the number of COVID-19 cases spiked up from below 30 in February 2020 to more than a thousand a month later. The sudden increase was mostly linked to a large Islamic gathering attended by 16,000 near the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Another large COVID-19 cluster was from a church gathering in Kuching, Sarawak. Within a few weeks, Malaysia became the worst hit country by COVID-19 in Southeast Asia. While religious leaders have advised social distancing among their congregants, the belief that “God is our shield” is often cited for gathering. There is a need to promote sound decision-making among religious adherents so that they will not prioritize their loyalty to the subjective interpretation of religion over evidence-based medicine. Malaysia, a multi-cultural and multi-faith country, is an example of how religious beliefs could strongly influence health behaviours at individual and community levels. In this article, we detail the religious aspects of COVID-19 prevention and control in Malaysia and discuss the possible role of religious organizations in encouraging sound decision-making among religious adherents in mitigating this crisis. We make recommendations on how to promote a partnership between the healthcare system and religious organizations, and how religion and faith could be integrated into health promotion channels and resources in the response of COVID-19 and future communicable diseases.
