The casting Fe3Al intermetallics were solidified in sodium silicate sand mould and permanent mould respectively to get different cooling rates. After heat treatment (1000°С/15 h homogenizing annealing + furnace cooling followed by 600°С/1 h tempering + oil quenching), the microstructure and properties of Fe3Al intermetallics were investigated. The results show that the heat-treated Fe3Al intermetallics at higher cooling rate has finer grained microstructure than lower cooling rate, and the lattice distortion increases due to the higher solid solubility of the elements Cr and B at higher cooling rate. The tensile strength and hardness of the Fe3Al intermetallics at higher cooling rate are slightly higher also. However, the impact power of intermetallics at higher cooling rate is 67.5% higher than that at lower cooling rate, and the impact fracture mode is also transformed from intercrystalline fracture at lower cooling rate to intercrystallin+transcrystalline mixed fracture at higher cooling rate.

Abstract Polycrystalline TbxDy1-xR0.1Fe2-zCoz (R = Nd, Pr, x = 0.2, 0.3; z = 0, 1.3) cubic Laves phase alloys with MgCu2-type structure were prepared by arc melting followed by homogenizing annealing. The crystal structure, magnetic properties, and magnetostriction have been investigated. Compounds with high values of magnetostrictive susceptibility were found in the temperature range 150-300 K. Compounds with partial substitution of cobalt for iron demonstrate a change in the sign of anisotropic magnetostriction. This work continues the search for magnetostrictive materials with inexpensive neodymium and praseodymium.

The rare earth element Ce was added in Mg-2.0Zn-1.0Mn magnesium alloys. And the homogenizing treatment and the extrusion deformation tests for the alloy were carried out. The effects of the Ce addition and homogenization on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-2.0Zn-1.0Mn magnesium alloys were studied in the present investigation. The results showed that the addition of Ce can effectively refine the grain size of ZM21 alloy, improve the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy ZM21 and reduce the latent heat and solidification temperature range of the alloy. Homogenizing annealing treatment slightly affected the microstructure and mechanical properties of ZM21 alloy extrusion products but significantly affected the ZM21+Ce magnesium alloy. The fracture analysis indicated that the fracture of the two alloys was mixed fracture, while the fracture of magnesium alloy ZM21+Ce showed more ductile fracture feature.

The work studies effects of temperature – time parameters of homogenizing annealing and related structural changes on the content of δ-ferrite in high-chromium martensitic steel grade 07Kh15N5D4B, obtained by selective laser alloying. It is shown that homogenizing annealing at a temperature of 1150°C with a holding time for 8 hours reduces the content of δ-ferrite, eliminates the cellular structure, and also increases the strength properties of the above-mentioned steel.

The variation of microstructure and properties of RE-7075 Al alloy after homogenizing annealing were studied by some modern analytical instruments which including OM(optical microscope),SEM(scanning electron microscopy),EDS(energy dispersive spectroscopy ), Brinell hardness and conductivity meter of SIGMASCOPE SMP10 type in this experiment. The results shows that the alloy′s microstructure was uniform ,reduced the volume fraction of second phase, increased supersaturation of matrix and eliminated gradually dendritic segregation in homogenizing annealing state. The primary phase of matrix microstructure contain α(Al),T(Al2Mg3Zn3) and grain boundary microstructure include α(Al),Al2Cu,AlCuMg4La4 after homogenizing annealing.Compared with as cast condition, the conductivity and the hardness reduced after homogenizing annealing.

The effects of homogenizing annealing process on the microstructures and properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Zr magnesium alloy were investigated and the fracture of specimens before and after homogenizing annealing was also analysized by optical microscopy,X-ray diffraction analysis etc.The results show that after homogenizing annealing, dendritic segregation is almost eliminated and the microstructures and properties of alloy are improved. The annealing temperature played a main role in homogenizing of Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy. The optimal homogenizing annealing process is at 480°C for 8h.
