Energy medicine (EM) refers to a range of techniques and healing modalities that alter the underlying energy field of the body. Energy is stimulated or moved within the body to restore an energy balance through a variety of modalities that include hands-on healing or vibration applied to the body and through movement or sound. Sleep is impaired when the body’s energy is imbalanced and an excess of energy is activated or carried too high in the body. The evidence specifically examining the effect of energy techniques on sleep is limited, with small studies demonstrating benefit with hands-on healing techniques for intensive-care patients and those with cancer and/or chronic pain. There is moderate evidence that energy medicine significantly decreases many types of chronic pain, and it is most utilized in patients with chronic pain syndromes. In addition, weak evidence exists for energy medicine and decreased anxiety. It is extrapolated by many practitioners that the effect on pain and anxiety will result in better sleep. In addition, most energy medicine modalities have techniques specific for improving for sleep that can be done by a practitioner or can be taught to a patient for self-healing. Finding a skilled practitioner or learning self-healing energy techniques for sleep can be valuable additions to a patient’s plan of care.

Energy medicine (EM) consists of a range of modalities and techniques that work with the underlying energy field of the body. Techniques range from hands-on healing to using vibration, movement or sound. There is moderate evidence that energy medicine significantly decreases many types of chronic pain and is most utilized in patients with chronic pain syndromes. Energy medicine prevalence of use and evidence, specifically in GI disorders, has been less investigated. There are a few small studies demonstrating evidence for decreasing symptoms in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. Despite the lack of specific data for GI disorders, due to its role in increasing relaxation and decreasing pain, it can be a useful adjunct therapy. Most energy medicine modalities have specific techniques for GI disorders. Finding a skilled practitioner, as well as learning how to use self-healing techniques, can be valuable additions to a patient’s plan of care.

Living systems may be thought of as complex, nonlinear, dynamic, self-organizing energetic and field phenomena with negative entropy. At the highest level of organization, each life form may possess an innate biologic field, or biofield. This energy field maintains the integrity of the whole organism; regulates its physiologic and biochemical responses; and is integral to development, healing, and regeneration. Energy medicine refers to several systems that work with energy fields of the body to help restore health. Many energy-related therapies challenge the current biomedical paradigm because they cannot be explained by conventional biochemical or physiological mechanisms. Quantum physics is a better paradigm with which to understand these therapies.

Biofield science is an emerging field of study that aims to provide a scientific foundation for understanding the complex homeodynamic regulation of living systems. By furthering our scientific knowledge of the biofield, we arrive at a better understanding of the foundations of biology as well as the phenomena that have been described as “energy medicine.” Energy medicine, the application of extremely low-level signals to the body, including energy healer interventions and bio-electromagnetic device-based therapies, is incomprehensible from the dominant biomedical paradigm of “life as chemistry.” The biofield or biological field, a complex organizing energy field engaged in the generation, maintenance, and regulation of biological homeodynamics, is a useful concept that provides the rudiments of a scientific foundation for energy medicine and thereby advances the research and practice of it. An overview on the biofield is presented in this paper, with a focus on the history of the concept, related terminology, key scientific concepts, and the value of the biofield perspective for informing future research.

The eupneic act in healthy subjects involves a coordinated combination of functional anatomy and neurological activation. Neurologically, a central pattern generator, the components of which are distributed between the brainstem and the spinal cord, are hypothesized to drive the process and are modeled mathematically. A functionally anatomical approach is easier to understand although just as complex. Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is part of osteopathic medicine, which has many manual techniques to approach the human body, trying to improve the patient’s homeostatic response. The principle on which OMT is based is the stimulation of self-healing processes, researching the intrinsic physiological mechanisms of the person, taking into consideration not only the physical aspect, but also the emotional one and the context in which the patient lives. This article reviews how the diaphragm muscle moves, with a brief discussion on anatomy and the respiratory neural network. The goal is to highlight the critical issues of OMT on the correct positioning of the hands on the posterolateral area of the diaphragm around the diaphragm, trying to respect the existing scientific anatomical-physiological data, and laying a solid foundation for improving the data obtainable from future research. The correctness of the position of the operator’s hands in this area allows a more effective palpatory perception and, consequently, a probably more incisive result on the respiratory function.

Aimed at SUV-type vehicle, simulation and analysis of pressure resistance experiments on the body of automobile has been presented in the paper, according to the vehicle safety regulations and standards of FMVSS216. A limited SUV vehicle model is created; simulation is obtained with the help of software LS-DYNA, based on the principle of finite element analysis method. Assessment of pressure resistance and safety of the automobile has been presented, from the aspect of the deformation of body, the energy absorption of the vehicle and components, and the pressure on the body, etc. By rational improving of the original design of body structure, the reasonable distribution of pressure absorbability of the body of the SUV-type automobile is achieved. The effect of the overall energy absorption of the body is fully exerted, and then the safety of the driver and the passenger in a rollover accident is improved. Research methods and conclusions of this paper provide useful ways and references to the research of the safety of vehicle rollover and design of rationality of body energy absorption

When one cut himself, it's amazing to watch how quickly the body acts to mend the wound. Immediately, the body works to pull the skin around the cut back together. The concept of repair by bleeding of enclosed functional agents serves as the biomimetric inspiration of synthetic self repair systems. Such synthetic self repair systems are based on advancement in polymeric materials; the process of human thrombosis is the inspiration for the application of self healing fibres within the composite materials. Preliminary results based on flexural 3 point bend test on prepared samples have shown the healed hollow fibre laminate has a healed strength increase of 47.6% compared to the damaged baseline laminate. These results gave us confidence that there is a great potential to adopt such self healing mechanism on actual composite parts like in aircraft’s composite structures.

Addiction is a devastating disease of the body, the mind, and even the personality. Recent research shows that heart rate variability biofeedback can help the alcoholic/addict recover in three crucial ways, namely (1) treating the associated comorbidities (depression, anxiety, chronic pain), (2) treating the physiology around craving, and (3) returning to a loving and nurturing relationship with one's own body instead of an abusive and exploitive one.

Abstract. There is a lack of evidence about the synergy between the psychological and contextual factors that underlie the simultaneous practice of the behavioral domains of the Body Energy Balance [BEB] (Physical Activity [PA], Healthy Eating [HE] & Quality Sleep [QS]). Therefore, we seek to identify whether dispositional optimism [DO], emotion regulation [ER] flexibility, compensatory health beliefs [CHB], and environmental-sociocultural factors, predict behaviors of the body energy balance [BEB] in adults, through a Structural Equation Model [SEM]. To do this, cross-sectional explanatory research was available with a sample of 300 participants, who completed a booklet made up of validated psychometric instruments (one for each variable investigated). The results established that the tendency to perform the BEB behaviors is predicted by the contextual factors referred to, and the psychological variables were evaluated (R=.54, p-value < .05). A hypothetical model that incorporates the behavioral aggregate of sleep in the BEB equation is validated, subject to modification and inclusion of new variables.
