Spatial imaginations evolve. One such major spatial experiment has been India’s Look East/Act East policy that is the subject of this chapter. This chapter reads the genesis of India’s Look East policy in two spatial registers. First, this policy was reflected in India’s urge to redefine its neighbourhood as it finds itself bogged down in its immediate vicinity. The second register has to do with India’s efforts to find a solution to chronic economic underdevelopment of India’s turbulent and fraught northeastern region by bringing the advantages of scale to this geographically locked-in area. The author also discusses how the Look East policy has increasingly veered towards the new articulation of ‘Indo-Pacific’ as a geo-political theatre for a rising power that needs to balance against China.

I wish to make a contribution to the literature of the subject of “egg dropping,” and place on record in an entomological journal an observation I made nine years ago. I do this with the object of calling general attention to this subject, which I think an interesting one, and in hope that lepidopterists may be on the look out for this method of ovidpositing in all the species of the genus.

Analysing criminal trajectories via the lens of group offending from childhood to adulthood, this book explores gang organisation as a means for gang business in the contemporary British context. The study itself draws upon a five year study, carried out in the West of Scotland, to present in the voices of practitioners and more notably (ex)offenders the activity which gangs engage in the look to survive, operate, and expand in the illegal criminal underworld. The book is unique in that gang structure, activity, and context are analysed independently yet presents a holistic picture of what (dis)organised crime looks like in Britain today. Particular attention is paid to gang involvement in the countries illegal drug market, with unique light shed on the subject. In addition, the author explores how this illegal activity often overspills and is intertwined with the legitimate British economy.

AbstractThe subject of wolf recovery in North America sparks heated controversy, both for and against. This paper explores how this subject is informed by cosmopolitan worldviews. These worldviews pull nature and culture into a common orbit of ethical meaning, with implications for the normative relationships that ought to pertain in landscapes shared by people and wolves. This theoretical outlook is illustrated using the controversy over wolves in the northeastern region of the United States. I conclude with a set of reflections on theorizing the cosmopolis, the interpretation of cosmopolitan landscapes, and living with cosmopolitan wolves.

Abstract: Introduction: The humanization of assistance is associated to empathy, embracing, and effective communication, being part of the medical training. According to its nature, humanization requires methods that involve affections and stimulates critical thinking. Objective: Extensive literature shows the benefits of the arts in medical education; however, there are still few studies on dancing, the subject of this study, which was carried out by medical students and whose aim was to investigate hospital dancing in the teaching of humanization, from the perspective of medical students. Method: A qualitative action research study was designed, in which medical students performed choreographies for patients, companions and employees in three different wards of the teaching hospital. The action consisted of continuous cycles in the planning of interventions, performance, observing, reflection, and re-planning of subsequent actions, in a systematic manner and controlled by the researchers. Data production took place by direct observation, narratives and focal group. The data were analyzed using the content and thematic analysis methods. Results: For three months, 17 female and 7 male students between 18 and 24 years of age performed the action, producing data that was subsequently classified into 3 thematic categories: 1. Dimension of affection: contents of the student’s emotional character; 2. Care dimension: contents about caring for the patient; 3. Dance dimension: contents on dance in the humanistic training in Medicine. In the triangulation of the techniques, it was observed that joy, anxiety, and the perception of dance as an instrument of bonding were significant. The experience of changing socially-marked places for the student and the patient made the student face and overcome different feelings. The dance allowed the refinement of the look and the capacity to understand the other, taking into account perspectives that converge to or diverge from their own convictions. On the other hand, the students experienced the anxiety and joy of an encounter with themselves, perceiving dance as a pleasurable and humanizing activity. Conclusion: The dance in the hospital lead to experiences and reflections that stimulated the students’ self-knowledge, favored the student-patient relationship, and brought elements to understand the use of dancing in medicine, mainly for the teaching of empathy and humanized care.

AbstractDaily we are subjected to flurries of photography’s. Social networks and apps allow us to share images about life and its happenings. However, what do they communicate? The text explores the issue of Narcissism, the contemporary visual fetishism and the possibilities of taking photography as an apparatus open to seeing and thinking. By producing visualities (amateur and professional photographers), they can move between order and chaos, fear and will, mystery and imagination in an attempt to deterritorialize the look, to displace the subject and to break with a domesticated behavior before the image. Photography can make our eyes uncomfortable and invite us to perceive the images that surround us in other ways.

There are few dependable books in English on political theatre in India. Professor Bhatia's collection of essays, therefore, fills a long-felt need. She introduces the subject contextually, followed by four chapters chronologically examining key areas (British censorship of nationalistic drama, Indianizations of Shakespeare as an anticolonial statement, the Indian People's Theatre Association as a mass phenomenon in the mid-twentieth century, and Utpal Dutt's reinterpretation of Raj history in his play The Great Rebellion 1857), and concludes with a short epilogue on contemporary activist theatre by women. Most valuably for theatre historians, she places in the public domain many primary sources previously untapped in English, and unearths much secondary material that has escaped academic attention. Not least of all, she writes articulately and readably.
