Intergenerational Justice and Debt

Discussions of public debt often take on an intergenerational character. Balanced budget amendments and austerity policies are justified by appeal to the idea that high levels of national or state debt represent an unfair burden on the future. Conversely, debt forgiveness campaigns that appeal to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank often suggest that debt harms the interests of the future citizens of the indebted nation. In response to these issues, this chapter makes three significant points. First, it argues that, somewhat controversially, states are often more likely to undermine substantive justice by taking on too little debt rather than by taking on too much. This section looks at the best available evidence from macroeconomics on the relationship between debt and economic growth. Second, the chapter examines the procedural issues for making debt policy decisions and how they can more reliably reflect the interests of the future; it argues in favor of a guardianship paradigm for intergenerational procedural justice. The chapter also shows that sustainable infrastructure is necessary to complement the guardianship paradigm by generating a convergence between justice-based motivations and economic self-interest. Finally, the chapter argues that questions of global and intergenerational justice are inextricably linked in the context of public debt because global injustice often limits the ability of some states to properly manage their fiscal affairs.

This study aims to investigate the vector direction of the relationship between agriculture performance, employment in agriculture, and education in Indonesia. This research uses the vector analysis method. where the dependent variable and the independent variable take turns to see the direction of the relationship of each variable to each other. All data used in this study are sourced from the world bank data. We found that labor absorption in the agricultural sector in Indonesia continues to decline very sharply, it becomes a threat to agriculture performance in the future. Because there is a decline in performance in the future due to labor shortages and it is possible that the agricultural sector will be completely destroyed when there is a shortage of labor in this sector if the interest of the Indonesian youth in the agricultural sector is not invested.

Abstract The purpose of this study is the relationship between public debt and economic growth in Albania in post-dictatorships. Many authors have analyzed the mutual link between economic growth and public debt and the results and the methodologies are different in different countries and periods. Let’s see what data are specifically about these two indicators (provided by the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Albania and the International Monetary Fund). Does the public debt performance affects the trend of the economic growth or not? I have mentioned what are the main events and phenomena in Albania, in Europe and in the World that have affected the Albanian economy. For these years, I have made comparisons with situations in other countries.

The article focuses on economic structures that crush the poor, especially global economic structures that trap and keep people in poverty. The concept of poverty occupies centre stage in South Africa and many other developing countries. There is no longer a middle class. One is either rich or poor. Globalisation has created a system or program that continues to crush the poor, while also breeding greed and selfishness. The rich always accumulate resources while the poor struggle to make ends meet. These problems are created by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and Structural Adjustment Programs, to name a few. These structures have introduced a system of inequality that widens the gap between the rich and the poor because of self-interest, which continues to crush the latter. The end result is that the concept of Ubuntu or Botho among African communities is destroyed. Injustice becomes the order of the day.

This chapter explores the relationship between the policy development and lending programs of International Financial Institutions (IFI) and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. Using the examples of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, we demonstrate the importance of IFIs for advancement of the WPS agenda. We make the case for the relevance of the WPS agenda to IFIs given their institutional mandates and commitment to gender and global development agendas, as well as their more recent emphasis and commitment with respect to “fragility, conflict and violence” (FCV) contexts. Moreover, this chapter explores practical ways to integrate these agendas, bringing IFIs into WPS and vice versa. To this end, we evaluate existing initiatives, such as development and financial commitments to FCV states, donors and conflict-affected country WPS National Action Plans, and World Bank country strategies, in order to identify entry points and opportunities for bolstering the political economy tools of the to-date largely security and human rights-focused WPS agenda.

One of the most important factors in the macroeconomic system of every country is public debt. This is due to the processes of debt forming and its servicing has a significant influence to the financial system, the investment climate, the consumption structure and the development of the international corporation. The most common reason of the public debt and its increase is the existing policy which cannot ensure a steady balance of the state revenue and expenditure. A variety of theoretical concepts of the public debt management, scientists’ attitude towards the public debt, critical indicators (selected according to indicators defined in the Maastricht Treaty and in accordance with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank requirements) of the acceptability assessment of the public debt are analysed in this article. On the basis of identified critical indicators of the public debt acceptability, the critical analysis of Lithuanian borrowing tendencies and assessment of indicators is performed. The results revealed that Lithuania is often provided for non-compliance with the criteria approved by the Maastricht Treaty or the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The mathematical modelling of the Lithuanian public debt projections indicated that a tendency of a positive downward on the Lithuanian public debt share of GDP is likely to happen in the future.

The topic of what interviews measure has received a great deal of attention over the years. One line of research has investigated the relationship between interviews and the construct of cognitive ability. A previous meta-analysis reported an overall corrected correlation of .40 ( Huffcutt, Roth, & McDaniel, 1996 ). A more recent meta-analysis reported a noticeably lower corrected correlation of .27 ( Berry, Sackett, & Landers, 2007 ). After reviewing both meta-analyses, it appears that the two studies posed different research questions. Further, there were a number of coding judgments in Berry et al. that merit review, and there was no moderator analysis for educational versus employment interviews. As a result, we reanalyzed the work by Berry et al. and found a corrected correlation of .42 for employment interviews (.15 higher than Berry et al., a 56% increase). Further, educational interviews were associated with a corrected correlation of .21, supporting their influence as a moderator. We suggest a better estimate of the correlation between employment interviews and cognitive ability is .42, and this takes us “back to the future” in that the better overall estimate of the employment interviews – cognitive ability relationship is roughly .40. This difference has implications for what is being measured by interviews and their incremental validity.

Objectively and reliably determined indicators of rheological properties of the dough were identified using the alveograph device to create a system of classifications of wheat and flour from it for the intended purpose in the future. The analysis of the relationship of standardized quality indicators, as well as newly developed indicators for identifying them, differentiating the quality of wheat flour for the intended purpose, i.e. for finished products. To do this, we use mathematical statistics methods.

Radiomics is a science that investigates a large number of features from medical images using data-characterisation algorithms, with the aim to analyse disease characteristics that are indistinguishable to the naked eye. Radiogenomics attempts to establish and examine the relationship between tumour genomic characteristics and their radiologic appearance. Although there is certainly a lot to learn from these relationships, one could ask the question: what is the practical significance of radiogenomic discoveries? This increasing interest in such applications inevitably raises numerous legal and ethical questions. In an environment such as the technology field, which changes quickly and unpredictably, regulations need to be timely in order to be relevant.  In this paper, issues that must be solved to make the future applications of this innovative technology safe and useful are analysed.
