This chapter provide an overview of the growing stock of research on the relationship between quality of government and political support. After having been surprisingly absent from the research agenda dealing with support and legitimacy, a growing number of studies have come to demonstrate the importance of impartiality in the implementation of public policies for political support and democratic legitimacy. After outlining a framework for analysis of political support and a discussion of different aspects of quality of government in this body of research, we take a closer look on a number of important contributions that have demonstrated the explanatory power of quality of government when it comes to analyses of variation in political support. In doing so, we distinguish between studies that have assessed the effects of quality of government on the system level (e.g. countries’ level of corruption) and analyses investigating the relationship between individuals’ perceptions of the quality of government and political support.

This study attempts to investigate the factors underlying fluctuations in the purchase intentions of consumers towards selected green products specified herein as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs). A survey was conducted covering 500 respondents associated with four retail outlets selling green products and conventional products in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Factor analysis was first applied to the survey data to reduce the number of variables to be considered in the process of investigation without losing the significance of the explanatory power of variables. This led to the extraction of the maximum common variance from all variables. Simple regression analysis was then carried out to understand the relationship between the dependent variable (purchase intention) and the independent variables (brand consciousness, perceived quality of products, price sensitivity and product availability). The results show that brand consciousness, perceived quality of products, price sensitivity and product availability have significant effects on the purchase intention of consumers towards green products. The relative importance of the factors that affect consumers’ purchase intention has been analysed, and the practical and theoretical implications of the results of the study are also discussed.

The theoretical and empirical literature on the relationship between prayer and health is critically reviewed. Although empirical research partially confirms that prayer promotes a variety of health outcomes, the empirical literature is characterized by weak methodologies that may contribute to the inconsistency of some findings. Recommendations are made for improving the quality of prayer and health research. An agenda for further empirical investigation of the relationship between prayer and health is proposed.

In this chapter, the authors summarize their research in the experimental aesthetics of visual art and cinema, motivated by the following assumptions: (1) vision is more complex than the mere activation of the “visual brain”; (2) our visual experience of the world is the outcome of multimodal integration processes, with the motor system as key player; (3) aesthetic experience must be framed within the broader notion of intersubjectivity, as artworks are mediators of the relationship between the subjectivities of artists/creators and beholders; and (4) empathy is an important ingredient of our response to works of art. Capitalizing on the results of their research, one privileging embodiment and the performative quality of perception and cognition, preliminary suggestions for a future research agenda are outlined. Embodied simulation, a model of perception and cognition, can provide a new take on these issues, fostering a newly based dialogue between neuroscience and the humanities.

Smartphone’s are programmable and embed various sensors; these phones have the potential to change the way how healthcare is delivered. Fall detection is definitely one of the possibilities. Injuries due to falls are dangerous, especially for elderly people, diminishing the quality of life or even resulting in death. This study presents the implementation of a fall detection prototype for the Android-based platform. The proposed system has three components: sensing the accelerometer data from the mobile embedded sensors, learning the relationship between the fall behavior and the collected data, and alerting preconfigured contacts through message while detecting fall. We adopt different fall detection algorithms and conduct various experiments to evaluate performance. The results show that the proposed system can recognize the fall from human activities, such as sitting, walking and standing, with 72.22% sensitivity and 73.78% specificity. The experiment also investigates the impact of different locations where the phone attached. In addition, this study further analyzes the trade-off between sensitivity and specificity and discusses the additional powers consumption of the devices.

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of financial statements and over/ under-investment and the influence of the quality of financial statements on over/under-investment with the disclosure of the level of internal control in listed and non-listed state-owned companies in Indonesia. The research sample was listed and non-listed BUMN in Indonesia with 208 firms-years during 2011-2016 with linear regression analysis using the SPSS program. The regression test results show that there is support for the hypothesis of this study, namely that the quality of financial statements negatively affects over/under-investment and the effect of the quality of financial statements on over/under-investment is stronger in SOEs that disclose their internal controls. To strengthen the results of the research, additional testing was conducted to analyze the differences between listed SOEs and non-listed SOEs. The results show that listed SOEs have more explanatory power on the effect of the quality of financial statements on over/under-investment than non-listed SOEs. That is because listed SOEs must also follow capital market regulations (Indonesia Stock Exchange) and market mechanisms that relate to investors and other external parties who have an interest in the operation (performance) of these SOEs.

The dynamic theory of resources is a recent approach that provides a theoretical framework for understanding, forecasting, and examining the relationships between people’s resources and their adaptation to retirement. This article focuses on the transition to retirement in order to better understand how retirees’ perceptions of their gains and losses when they approach retirement significantly explain their well-being after retirement. Moreover, we explore the relationship between people’s preparation behaviors before retirement (T1) and their quality of life and health after retirement (T3), taking into consideration the mediating role of perceived gains and losses in retirement (T2). This study was carried out with a sample of Spanish workers (N = 244) who were employed at T1 and had retired at T2 and T3. The results support the assertion that losses explain well-being better than gains. In addition, some specific losses showed a greater explanatory power for quality of life and health than others. The implications are discussed with a view to understanding retirement and the design of interventions.

Escola. Formação Docente. Dignidade. Abstract: Health and education have a certain correlation and are, however, inseparable, since to obtain education it is necessary to have health, while health is only achieved when there is education. Both are seen as social needs that have a much-discussed political and social character, especially as they are considered a people's right and a duty of the State. The objective of the study was to know the teachers’ conception about the relationship between education and health policies. The study presented here has an exploratory design, and part of the application of a questionnaire for teachers participating in a Regional Education Seminar in a city in Rio Grande do Sul, where a workshop was held on the theme “Public Policies: health education as a transversal theme to education ”. As a method of analysis of the collected data, the content analysis proposed by Bardin (2011) was used, covering results such as the teachers’ knowledge that public policies are government actions or decisions to solve problems and collective needs, and that these can enable the society development. Other results refer to the knowledge about the relationship between education and health policies and, thus, conceptions about the presence of intersectoriality, the possibility that these integrated policies can generate improvement of life, well-being and quality of life for individuals. The teacher's understanding is aligned with the understanding that these policies make it possible to achieve the fundamental right through social policy reflecting on human dignity . Keywords: Intersectoriality. School. Teacher Training. Dignity.

Abstract Friedrich Kratochwil engages critically with the emergence of a global administrative law and its consequences for the democratic legitimacy of global governance. While he makes important contributions to our understanding of global governance, he does not sufficiently discuss the differences in the institutional design of new forms of global law-making and their consequences for the effectiveness and legitimacy of global governance. I elaborate on these limitations and outline a comparative research agenda on the emergence, design, and effectiveness of the diverse arrangements that constitute the complex institutional architecture of contemporary global governance.

Abstract. Recently, Garfinkel and Critchley (2013) proposed to distinguish between three facets of interoception: interoceptive sensibility, interoceptive accuracy, and interoceptive awareness. This pilot study investigated how these facets interrelate to each other and whether interoceptive awareness is related to the metacognitive awareness of memory performance. A sample of 24 healthy students completed a heartbeat perception task (HPT) and a memory task. Judgments of confidence were requested for each task. Participants filled in questionnaires assessing interoceptive sensibility, depression, anxiety, and socio-demographic characteristics. The three facets of interoception were found to be uncorrelated and interoceptive awareness was not related to metacognitive awareness of memory performance. Whereas memory performance was significantly related to metamemory awareness, interoceptive accuracy (HPT) and interoceptive awareness were not correlated. Results suggest that future research on interoception should assess all facets of interoception in order to capture the multifaceted quality of the construct.
