Tobacco etch virus (TEV; genus Potyvirus) strains HAT, Mex21, and N were evaluated comparatively for their pathogenicity and effects on growth of Capsicum annuum L. ‘Calwonder’. Each TEV strain induced an initial systemic symptom of vein-clearing but subsequent disease symptoms ranged from mild (HAT) to moderate (Mex21) to severe (N). Effects on plant growth parameters closely reflected disease symptoms induced by each TEV strain. HAT-infected Calwonder plants did not differ from the healthy control for plant height, internode lengths, and aboveground fresh weight of shoots. Root dry weight, however, was less for HAT-infected plants than for the healthy control. Mex21 affected plants more severely, with significantly shorter plant height (at 20, 30, and 40 days postinoculation), reduced root dry weight, and shortened internodes compared with HAT and healthy control treatments. Aboveground fresh weight of Mex21-infected plants was significantly less than for the healthy control. N induced significant negative effects relative to each of the other treatments for plant height, aboveground shoot fresh weight, root dry weight, and internode lengths. The effects on Calwonder fruit production mimicked disease severity and effects on plant growth for the respective TEV strains.

This study was aimed at assessing the growth and production of celery plants grown with various compositions of N,P and K fertilizer and compost. The study was done at the Trial Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, Bogor fiom September to November 2015. A completely randomized design with two factors was used. The factors consisted of compost rate and N,P and K fertilizer rate. Compost was given in four levels, namely no compost (0% R), 26.3% gcompost/plant (50% R), 52.5 g compost/plant (100% R), and 78.7 g compost/plant (150% R). N, P and K fertilizer was given in five levels, namely no fertilizer (0% R), 4 g Urea, 0.3 g SP-36, 0.2 g KCl (25% R), 0.9 g Urea, 0.6 g SP-36, 0.4 g KCI (50% R), 1.3 g Urea, 0.8 g SP-36, 0.6 g KCl (75% R), and 1.7 g Urea, 1.1 g SP-36, 0.8 g KCl (100% R). All fertilizers were administered gradually at the time of planting and 2 weeks after planting. Three replicates were allocated into each treatment making up 60 experimental units. Results showed that celery plants given synthetic fertilizer at 100% R had higher plant height, number of leaves, number of seedlings, harvest fresh weight (g), saleable fresh weight (g), root biomass (g), and root dry weight (g) than those treated with no fertilizer (0% R). Plants treated with 150% compost had higher plant height, number of leaves, harvest fresh weight (g), saleable fresh weight (g), root length (cm), and root dry weight (g) than those treated with no fertilizer (0% R). Thus the best celery growth and production in this study was obtained on plant 150% R compost   and 100% R synthetic fertilizer nourished.Key words: celery, compost, N, P, K fertilizer, harvest flesh weight

A one-time application of fish emulsion 2 days before the application of plant growth regulators (PGR) showed an overriding effect on the growth of pansies. Blue/blotch shades of `Medallion' pansies were placed on a constant feed program of 100 ppm Peat Lite 20N–10P–20K, with half of the pansies receiving an additional one-time supplement of fish emulsion. PGRs and rates included B-Nine, 0.5% (used as the control); uniconazole, 2 and 4 ppm; and paclobutrazol, 16 and 25 ppm. Parameters taken included plant height, top fresh weight, top dry weight, days to anthesis, and visual appearance. Significant differences were noted in the plants receiving the supplement for plant dry weight, plant height, and visual appearance. Plants receiving fish emulsion grew taller and denser than those on constant feed alone despite the effects of the PGRs.

Penelitian ini bertujuan yang menguji Perbandingan pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman cabai merah (capsicum Annuum L.) akibat Pemberian Komposisi PGPR (Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria) yang perbeda. Pertumbuhan tanaman diukur berdasarkan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, volume akar, berat basah dan berat kering tanaman. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa PGPR dapat meningkatkan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, volume akar, berat basah dan berat kering tanaman cabe.Tinggi tanaman terbaik setelah diperlakuan selama 28 hari adalah dengan pemberian PGPR disertai dengan pemberian pupuk kandang dengan tinggi (24.44 cm), yang diikuti oleh pemberian PGPR + kompos dengan tinggi (22.04 cm), dan pemberian PGPR + NPK dengan tnggi tanaman 19.68 cm . Volume akar akan lebih tinggi bila diberikan PGPR yang ditambah dengan pupuk kandang , atau kompos maupun NPK, tetapi tdak berbeda hasilnya bila hanya diberikan PGPR saja. Jumlah daun dapat ditingkatkan bila diberikan PGPR yang ditambah dengan pupuk kandang, atau kompos maupun NPK. Pemberian PGPR + NPK tidak memberikan jumlah daun yang berbeda dengan pemberian PGPR saja.Berat basah akan meningkat bila diberikan PGPR saja maupun ditambah dengan pemberian pupuk kandang, atau kompos maupun NPK. PGPR ditambah dengan pupuk kandang maupun kompos memberikan dampak yang sama terhadap berat basah.Berat kering akan meningkat bila diberikan PGPR saja maupun ditambah dengan pemberian pupuk kandang, atau kompos maupun NPK. PGPR ditambah dengan pupuk kandang maupun kompos memberikan dampak yang sama terhadap berat basahThis study aimed to examine the comparison of vegetative growth of red chili (capsicum Annuum L.) due to the administration of different PGPR (Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria) Composition. Plant growth was measured based on plant height, number of leaves, root volume, wet weight and dry weight of the plant. The results showed that PGPR can increase plant height, number of leaves, root volume, wet weight and dry weight of chilli plants. The best plant height after being treated for 28 days is by giving PGPR accompanied by administering manure with height (24.44 cm), followed by by giving PGPR + compost with a height (22.04 cm), and giving PGPR + NPK with a plant height of 19.68 cm. Root volume will be higher if given PGPR added with manure, or compost or NPK, but the results are not different if only given PGPR. The number of leaves can be increased if given PGPR added with manure, or compost or NPK. Provision of PGPR + NPK does not provide a number of leaves that are different from the administration of PGPR alone. Wet weight increased when given PGPR alone or added with manure, or compost or NPK. PGPR added with manure or compost gives the same effect on wet weight. Dry weight will increase if given PGPR alone or added with manure, or compost or NPK. PGPR coupled with manure or compost has the same effect on wet weight

The slope of the gutter is one of the factors that affect plant growth and yield. This tilt affects the dissolved oxygen content in the hydroponic nutrient flow. Dissolved oxygen is one of the factors that can affect plant growth and yield. This study aims to determine the effect of guttering on the growth and yield of pakcoy plants. The research was conducted in Salatiga, Central Java from March to May 2019 in a greenhouse. Combination treatment of Pakcoy variety with gutter slopes. Each was repeated four times to obtain 24 experimental trials. This study used a randomized block design. The parameters observed were dissolved oxygen, number of leaves, plant height, shoot diameter, plant fresh weight, upper fresh weight, lower fresh weight, upper dry weight, and lower dry weight. Data analysis using variance. The DMRT test was used to see the distance between treatments with a 95% confidence interval. Based on the research results, the combination of varieties and the slope of the gutter had a significant effect on the number of leaves, crown diameter, and plant fresh weight. The combination of green pakcoy varieties with a 12% gutter slope gave the best results including plant height 25.32 cm, number of leaves 18.83, crown diameter 33.36 cm and fresh weight of 161.4 g plant-1. Keywords: NFT, varieties, slope gutters, dissolved oxygen

Melon has a high economic value but in its cultivation, this plant requires quite an intensive handling.One effort to increase the production of melon plants is modifying planting media composition andfertilizing. This research aimed to examine the interaction between plant media composition and therabbit urine fertilizer dosage on melon growth and yield. The research was held on April 4 to August4, 2019, at The Agro Fruit Purwosari Greenhouse, Mijen, Semarang and Ecology, and CropProduction Laboratory, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Diponegoro University,Semarang. The study used a completely randomized factorial design 3x5 with 5 replications. The firstfactor was the growing media composition of 100% husk charcoal (M1), 75% husk charcoal + 25%soil (M2), 50% husk charcoal + 50% soil (M3). The second factor was rabbit urine fertilizer dosageof 55 ml/plant (P1), 82,5 ml/plant (P2), 110 ml/plant (P3), 137,5 ml/plant (P4), 165 ml/plant (P5).Data were analyzed by variance and proceeded with the DMRT test. The observed variables wereplant height, amount of leaves, harvest age, fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit sweetness level, crown,and root fresh weight, crown and root dry weight. The results of the study showed that the interactionof the growing media composition and rabbit urine fertilizer dosage was significant (P<0.05) on theparameters of plant height, amount of leaves, and fruit sweetness level. The treatment of (M2)obtained the highest result on the parameters of plant height, amount of leaves, and fruit sweetnesslevel but had not been shown on the parameters of harvest age, fruit weight, fruit diameter, crownand root fresh weight, crown, and root dry weight.

This research was conducted in the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Jabal Ghafur Glee Gapui University, Pidie Regency, which took place from September 16 to November 15, 2017. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of 2 x 3 with 3 replications. The time factor for administration consists of 2 levels : W1 (Pagi), W2 (Sore). Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) type factors consist of three levels: P1 (Rhizobium), P2 (Mikoriza), P3 (Mikoriza +  Rhizobium). Parameters observed in soybean plant components include: plant height at ages 15, 30 and 45 HST, root fresh weight, root dry weight, number of nodulations. The difference in the time of administration of PGPR has a very significant effect on root dry weight, but it does not significantly affect the height of plants aged 15, 30 and 45 HST, root fresh weight, root length and number of root nodules, the best treatment was encountered at the time of administration of PGPR W2 (Afternoon ). Different types of PGPR have very significant effect on root length and number of nodulations, but no significant effect on plant height aged 15, 30 and 45 HST, root fresh weight and root dry weight. The best treatment was found in the treatment P1 (Rhizobium). There was no interaction between the time of administration of the PGPR and the type of PGPR against all observed parameters.

The research was aimed to know the effect of dose of organic fertilizer to growth and yield varieties of mustard (Brassica juncea L.). The method used was a randomized block design a Randomized Completely Block Design with 2 factors. The first factor was the organic fertilizer, namely (P) and the second factor was the variety. The first factors was the organic vermicompost, which consists of 4 levels, namely: P0 = 0 g / plant, P1 = 30 g / plant, P2 = 60 g / plant, P3 = 90 g / plant the second factor was varieties, which consists of three levels, namely: V1 = Tosakan varieties, V2 = Kumala varieties, V3 = Sri Tanjung varieties. Thus there was 12 combinations of treatment, each treatment was repeated three times, in order to get 36 experimental unit. Parameters measured were plant height, number of leaves, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight, root dry weight. The results of this research showed that vermicompost fertilizer showed significant effect on the observation parameters plant height, root length, fresh weight of plant, plant dry weight, root dry weight. Vermicompost fertilizer dose of 60 g / plant give the best average results in almost all variables observation (plant height 18,6 g, fresh weight of plant 10,3 g, plant dry weight 1,3 g and root dry weight 0,4 g. Kumala varieties gave the highest rates in the observation parameters number of leaves 7,2 sheet and fresh weight of plant 10,0 g. The interaction of both treatment showed no real effect on all parameters of observation.

The present investigation was carried out during 2016-2017 with the objective of observing the effect of the tested systems of pruning on vegetative, fruiting, yield and quality traits of capsicum varieties. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized block design with four replications and nine treatments with Indra, Bachata and Inspiration cultivars of capsicum pruned with three intensities i.e. two shoots, four shoots and un-pruned (control). The results showed that the two stem pruning treatment significantly affected the plant growth and flowering characteristics in terms of plant height (194.75cm), number of days to first flower (20.25 days) in cv. Indra. Same cultivar when left un-pruned recorded more number of fruits per plant (23.64 fruits), but fruit yield per plant (4.14kg) was observed in four stem pruning treatment in Indra cultivar of capsicum than other cultivars tried.

Abstract Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume) is usually cultivated on the field under the tree as natural shading. Porang can also be grown on a pot containing limited amount of growth media. The present research work was carried to evaluate the minimum amount of growth media required for optimum growth and corm yield. The study used bulbils (10 g/bulbil and 20 g/bulbil) and corm (+ 15 g/corm) sown on growth media of 2.5 kg, 5.0 kg and 7.5 kg/pot as treatments. Each treatment was arranged in completely randomized design and was replicated 3 times. Plant height, plant diameter, shoot dry weight, diameter and thickness of corm and fresh weight of corm were measured to evaluate the influence of the treatments on growth and corm yield of porang. The plant growth of porang measured as plant height, plant diameter, shoot dry weight was improved when the planting materials were planted on bigger size of growth media. Bigger size of bulbil caused better growth of porang on each growth medium. The effect of plant materials and the size of growth media on porang growth was in parallel to its effect on corm yield measured as corm diameter, corm thickness and fresh weight of corm. The result of the present study suggests to use bigger bulbil and bigger size of growth media when planted on polyethylene bag. Corm as planting material was better than bulbil because less size of corm produced similar plant growth and corm yield compared to bigger size of bulbil. Therefore, the use of corm as planting material is more favorable to bulbil.

<p>This research aims for finding out the response of chili to type of sound and composition of substrate in hydroponic systems and obtain the optimal composition of substrate in chili planting hydroponically. This research started from August 2014 until February 2015 at Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta using Completely Randomized Design that consists of two factors. First factor was sand type with 3 levels and the second one the composition of substrate with 4 levels. Data of observation result have been analyzed based on F test at 5% grade and average comparison test using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% grade. The Pearson Correlation test is used for analyzing to observe the relation of inter variable. The type of sand is not interacting with the composition of substrate except at observation of green leaves. The best growing and development of chili is at pure sand beach has the highest value it can be seen from fresh weight of root, root dry weight, plant height and canopy fresh weight, and the composition of the substrate (sand: palm wood fiber) 3:1 indicated by the root dry weight, plant height, canopy fresh weight, shoot dry weight, the weight of fruit per plant and the sum of fruits per plant.</p>
