PurposeAlthough several different learning technologies have been integrated into the face-to-face (F2F) learning approach, the effective implementation of mobile learning (m-learning) is still at an early stage. This may be due to the lack of understanding factors that affect learners' acceptance of m-learning.Design/methodology/approachConsidering the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) as a theoretical background, this research investigates m-learning adoption in Saudi Arabia. The research framework extends the UTAUT by including intrinsic motivation, mobile learning self-efficacy and perceived satisfaction. A total of 200 higher education students voluntarily participated in the research. The application of the partial least square technique indicated that the proposed model can predict m-learning adoption adequately in Saudi Arabia (R2 = 0.73.8).FindingsThe research outcomes are significant for educational institutions and teachers to implement m-learning effectively. Many recommendations can be suggested to help enhance learners' willingness to adopt m-learning technology: Teachers need to design their courses in an interactive way and provide several different activities to ensure that learners obtain real benefits in their learning outcomes. When learners have positive perceptions about the use of this technology in the learning process, such perceptions should be supported by providing beneficial courses.Originality/valueThis research examines the effectiveness of the extended UTAUT to predict m-learning adoption in Saudi Arabia higher education. This could provide a significant contribution to the existing evidence about the validity of the model in different learning cultures and contexts.

This study investigated the factors that influence Ghanaian entrepreneurs to adopt e-commerce. Cross-sectional data was gathered from 520 entrepreneurs in the most populous and industrious regions in Ghana. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was employed to effectively understand the unexplored phenomenon of e-commerce adoption among Ghanaian entrepreneurs. Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings indicate that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence (SI) positively and significantly influenced the behavioral intention (BI) to adopt e-commerce. Facilitating conditions (FC) and BI had a significant positive relationship with the adoption of e-commerce.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore and decompose a satisfaction model using alumni’s perspective for Islamic-based higher education institutions (IHEI) with the antecedent of perceived quality and value and the consequence of loyalty. Design/methodology/approach A study was used, using 44-item, a ten-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 360 alumni from various classes started from the 1970s till 2000s. Theoretical-based, national qualification framework of Indonesian higher education and management-based considerations were involved in developing a survey. Data were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation model and decomposed into strategic management map using importance-performance matrix analysis. Findings The most important determinants of alumni satisfaction and loyalty in IHEI is the IHEI’s ability to develop career capability through enriching knowledge. Moreover, the presence of good environment and Islamic value embodiment supporting learning programs on campus is the most significant trigger for the knowledge development. Research limitations/implications The results were generated from a specific department. Additional studies are needed to test if the results are not department (institution)-specific. Practical implications This study provides strategic directions for management to improve the critical aspects of the system by providing the inputs to the extent to which the service quality delivered may contribute to end-customers’ satisfaction. Originality/value It contributes to the literature on satisfaction and service quality issues by incorporating ideological aspect, by investigating the feasible model of customer satisfaction in the perspective of alumni for IHEI.

As a new trend in learning, simulation games play an active and essential role in the area of educational technology. Gaming makes a positive impact on the learning process. It has the capability to enhance creativity, problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and collaboration (Faizan et al., 2015). This paper is aimed at exploring the factors that affect students’ acceptance and use of simulation games in management courses. In this study, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) is utilized to investigate students’ intentions regarding using simulation games for learning. The proposed model and its hypotheses are tested by surveying 115 students at Yanbu University College in Saudi Arabia. Data are gathered and analyzed using smart partial least square. After analysis, the results prove that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence have positive effects on behavioral intentions (BI) and that facilitating conditions have a positive impact on use behavior (UB). In addition, a positive effect is found between BI and UB. The authors utilize the study findings to highlight some recommendations that could improve the implementation of simulation games. Finally, future studies are recommended to increase the sample size for more reliable results and conclusions.

This study aims to identify and analyze the technological determinants of persistence in college distance education courses (N=61), derived from the Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model. The results of the structural equation analyses (Partial Least Square) revealed that among these determinants, only facilitating conditions have a significant and positive impact on the behavioural intention to use distance learning technologies (R2 = 54%) defined as the student’s intention to display this behaviour. Moreover, behavioral intention to use distance learning technologies has a significant and positive effect on persistence, defined as the intention to finish the distance education course in which the student is enrolled (R2 = 14.2 %) and the intention to enroll in other distance education courses in the future (R2 = 65%). The ANOVA analyses revealed significant differences between the groups of students assigned to different courses delivery modes on all the technological factors, suggesting that differentiated analyses, depending on the course delivery mode, should be performed in the future.

Governments across the world are pushed towards the provisioning of mobile government (m-government) services. However, the development of m-government services will not drive the expected benefits unless citizens’ accept the use of these services. Literature shows that there is a paucity of studies on factors impacting citizens’ acceptance and use of m-government services in Saudi Arabia. This paper proposed a conceptual model extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model to consider other relevant factors, such as awareness and information quality, that can impact citizens’ adoption of m-government applications. A survey questionnaire was developed and a total of 264 responses of Saudi citizens were collected and analysed using Partial Least square (PLS). The results indicate that social influence, performance expectancy, and effort expectancy are the factors that have significant impact on citizens behavioural intention to use m-government services, accounting for 57% of the variability, while citizens’ awareness and information quality have no impact. Our findings can be used to stimulate the use of m-government services. The findings of this study suggest that decision makers on governments agencies and developers of m-government services should emphasis the role of social strategies to allow people to incentivise each other to use m-government services, clarify the benefits of using m-government services, and reduce the effort required for using m-government services.
