China's war against air pollution moves to next stage

Subject China's anti-pollution plans for the next three years. Significance China’s 2018-20 'Three-year Action Plan for Winning the Blue Sky War' is an effort to further decarbonise the economy, with a focus on reducing air pollution. It sees the geographical widening of successful efforts in the past three years, if not a marked increase in ambition, to improve air quality by industrial upgrading, controlling the expansion of polluting industries, supporting new energy vehicles and increasing top-down inspections. Impacts Further closures and other policies will limit the expansion of commodities mined or processed in China, mainly coal, steel and aluminium. Electric cars will receive subsidies and favourable policies such as licence-plate limits for conventional, petrol-burning vehicles. Reducing polluting and energy-intensive industries to reduce smog also reduces carbon emissions, helping to mitigate climate change.

Significance This is an opportunity for China to renew its commitment to industrial and energy transformation. However, a massive expansion of coal-burning power generation is also planned. Impacts China-US tensions pose an underestimated menace to the climate because they encourage China to seek energy self-sufficiency through coal. Coal, steel and mining industries will receive a short-term boost, despite their long structural decline and unsustainability. Greater use of coal power will increase air pollution, offsetting the benefits to human health of green innovation and industrial upgrading. President Xi Jinping’s promotion of the slogan ‘Ecological Civilisation’ suggests a desire for a green reputation internationally.

Since 2013, lots of places in China have suffered serious fogs and hazes, therefore a number of measures have been taken to alleviate the problem, especially in some big cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang. Some of the measures are targeted at automobile industry. This paper gave some suggestions about fog and haze prevention after analyzing the major causes of haze weather; meanwhile, it explained the positive influence on automobile industry. As far as automobile industry is concerned, it is necessary to issue related standards, laws and regulations as soon as possible. On the other hand, the development of new energy vehicles will help alleviate air pollution, and our purpose to avoid haze weather can be achieved.

Air pollution in China has been drawing considerable attention in recent years. The emergence of new energy vehicles (NEVs) provides hope to reduce air pollutant emission. However, consumers' recognition and acceptance of NEVs remain at the early stage. This research aims to explore how consumers' environmental concern influences their NEV purchase intention. Specifically, this research conducted an online survey and an experiment to address the following issues: (1) how consumers' psychological distance (PD) toward air pollution influences their purchase intention for NEVs, and does their risk perception of the consequences of air pollution mediate this influence; (2) whether consumers' perceived price level of NEVs plays a moderating role in the relationship between risk perception and purchase intention; and (3) whether the construal level of stimulus can be manipulated to influence consumers' PD toward air pollution to increase their purchase intention for NEVs. The results of study 1, based on a total of 293 valid samples, show that consumers' PD toward air pollution significantly affects their purchase intention for NEVs, and risk perception of the consequences of air pollution plays a considerable mediating role. Meanwhile, consumers' perceived price level of NEVs has a significant negative moderating effect on the relationship between risk perception and purchase intention. The results of study 2, based on an online experiment, show that the construal level of stimulus can influence consumers' PD toward air pollution, which in turn affects their purchase intention for NEVs. The findings of this research have implications for businesses' promotional strategies and governments' policies. For instance, low-construal-level promotional materials can be developed to arouse consumers' environmental concern, thereby facilitating their eco-friendly consumption behavior. Governmental financial assistance and other policies can also increase consumers' willingness to purchase NEVs.

Abstract In recent years, with the increasing problems of environmental pollution and energy security, energy-saving emission reduction and green low-carbon have become the focus of public opinion. Meanwhile, the New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) industry is beginning to rise gradually. Although NEV technology has made significant progress in some key technologies in China, there are still some technical bottlenecks restricting the popularization of NEVs. In order to understand the research hotspots and trends in the technology area of NEV quickly, objectively and intuitively, this paper studies the published literature on technical direction of NEVS in CNKI Database for the past ten years, which is from 2011 to 2020. According to the method of keyword analysis of the bibliometric, all the keywords in the literature are statistically classified as the research object, research method and research hotspot. Therefore, considering the development and the bottleneck of the NEVs industry in China, this paper sums up the hotspots and difficult points on technical problems of NEVs in China for the past ten years, and then establishes the problem method database of the NEV technology in China. It could provide a basis for the development of the NEV technology disciplines, and then contribute to facilitating the solution of the core technology in the field of NEVs. With the advent of intelligent and networked vehicles, artificial intelligence algorithm is applied to the energy management and control system of energy vehicles, so as to make common progress in the industrial production technology of new energy vehicles and artificial intelligence production technology. Big data has brought new challenges and opportunities to automobile Internet marketing. Using the big data system, Internet companies can accurately lock users, timely formulate and adjust refined marketing strategies according to the in-depth mining of big data, and timely quantitatively evaluate each effect. Big data provides technical basic support for Internet precision marketing in the automotive industry. With the big data system, brand marketing and effect marketing can be more accurate, and the tracking of effects can be more specific, so as to greatly reduce cost waste and improve user conversion rate.

Purpose Because of the increased global competition and the need for environment consciousness, organisations have started focusing on incorporating sustainability dimensions into suppler selection criteria. In the past decade, sustainable supplier selection has received much attention from researchers as well as industry practitioners. The purpose of this paper is to identify various sustainable supplier selection criteria (SSSC) and underlying interdependencies among prominent selection criteria to develop a framework for sustainability dimensions. Design/methodology/approach The sustainable criteria for supplier selection were established through comprehensive literature review. An interpretive structural modelling (ISM) approach is used to investigate the interrelationships among these criteria. Findings A total of 21 SSSC under 3 dimensions (social, environmental and economic) are established. Ten criteria related to quality, capability, flexibility, waste management, pollution prevention, local community, employment practice, labour, etc. are exhibiting strong driving as well as dependence power, as demonstrated through ISM and matriced’ impacts croises-multiplication applique’ and classement (MICMAC) analysis. The findings show that delivery/service, eco design and rights of stakeholders are the “key” criteria having a high-driving and low-dependence power. These criteria require high attention from managers, while other criteria having low-driving and high-dependence power require secondary actions. Research limitations/implications The inter-relations for the development of ISM model and MICMAC analysis were obtained through the opinion of industry experts and academicians, which may tend to be subjectively biased. Further exploration is proposed to statistically validate the developed interdependency model. Practical implications This paper might act as a reference for the supplier development managers of organisations by providing an appraisal of various SSSC based on their interdependencies. Originality/value This study contributes to the knowledge base by proposing a framework of the interrelationships of the SSSC and also provides an additional perspective for managing these criteria based on ISM.
