In any economy there is a need for the bulky goods transportation which cannot be divided into smaller parts. Such cargoes include building structures, elements of industrial equipment, tracked or wheeled construction and agricultural machinery, heavy armored military vehicles. In any case, tractor-semitrailer should provide fast delivery of goods with minimal fuel consumption. In order to guarantee the goods delivery, tractor-semitrailers must be able to overcome the existing roads broken grade and be capable to tow a semi-trailer in off-road conditions. These properties are especially important for military equipment transportation. The important factor that determines a tractor-semitrailer mobility is its gradeability. The purpose of this work is to improve a tractor-semitrailer mobility with tractor units manufactured at PJSC “AutoKrAZ” by increasing the tractor-semitrailer gradeability. The customer requirements for a new tractor are determined by the maximizing the grade to 18°. The analysis of the characteristics of modern tractor-semitrailers for heavy haulage has shown that the highest rate of this grade is 16.7°. The factors determining the limiting gradeability value were analyzed, based on the tractor-semitrailer with a KrAZ-6510TE tractor and a semi-trailer with a full weight of 80 t. It has been developed a mathematical model to investigate the tractor and semi-trailer axles vertical reactions distribution on the tractor-semitrailer friction performances. The mathematical model has allowed to calculate the gradeability value that the tractor-semitrailer can overcome in case of wheels and road surface friction value and the tractive force magnitude from the engine. The mathematical model adequacy was confirmed by comparing the calculations results with the data of factory tests. The analysis showed that on a dry road the KrAZ-6510TE tractor with a 80 t gross weight semitrailer is capable to climb a gradient of 14,35 ° with its coupling mass full use condition. The engine's maximum torque allows the tractor-semitrailer to overcome a gradient of 10.45° It has been determined the ways to improve the design of the KrAZ-6510TE tractor to increase its gradeability. Keywords: tractor, tractor-semitrailer vehicle mobility, tractor-semitrailer vehicle gradeability.

The paper presents some terracotta lamps recovered from the recent rescue excavations carried out by the museum of Sinop in ancient Sinope. The material has been divided into chronological groups, ranging from the 2nd century BC to the 7th century AD, and by typological characteristics describing different types. The most common finds are local late Hellenistic (1st century BC) and late Roman (4th–5th centuries AD) mold-made lamps attesting to the operation of lamp-maker’s workshops in Sinope. Some of the late Hellenistic lamps are important for their connection with Ephesian and other Asia Minor fabrics. These finds are from the domestic contexts of Hellenistic and late Roman Sinope; but we also have lamps from funerary and commercial contexts. Data on production techniques, fabric and use distribution serves to examine the socio-cultural structure of this ancient site in eastern Paphlagonia.

In the article, based on the analysis of the requirements for the readiness of weapons and military equipment during combat use and the reliability of their operation in the course of combat operations, it was discovered that one of the reasons that causes a discrepancy between the declared failures and real ones may be the incorrect choice and justification of the time distribution function up to the refusal of military means. As a rule, during the development of these tools, the function of distribution of time to failure is chosen by analogy with similar patterns of weapons and military equipment. In the theory of reliability, special attention is given to choosing the function of time-breaking non-response (failures or failures). Therefore, the article deals with the questions of evaluating the effectiveness of functioning of complex systems and methods of modeling the processes of their functioning, taking into account the laws of the distribution of random variables. The discrepancy between the declared irregularity of the military apparatus and the fact that is actually observed in the troops can be explained by the incorrectly accepted hypothesis about the distribution of time to failure. Therefore, the article analyzes the order of the justification of such a function without taking into account the enemy's fire impact and the proposed variant of determining the function of distribution of the time of work until the refusal of the model of military equipment. The article also cites the reasons for the discrepancy between the claimed missile defense equipment and what is actually observed in the troops. The proposed mathematical model of faultlessness, which at stages of designing and design will allow to set requirements to the model of technology with the help of analytical description. The sequence of calculations of non-failure indexes based on the use of Weibull distribution is substantiated.

A small intelligence robot (SSR) is a special military intelligence means. It is used to obtain information about the enemy - the collection of intelligence, the search for targets and target indication, observation of the situation, etc. The use of a small intelligence robot is assumed in various natural and climatic conditions: in temperate terrain, on soils with low bearing capacity, at low temperatures, in the desert, on sandy and marshy soils, on rocky soils, in elevated temperature and dustiness of air, and also in conditions highlands In the article an overview of modern developments of remotely controlled robotic military complexes, principles of their construction and perspective directions of development in the armed forces are reviewed. The issues of robotization of existing weapons and military equipment are considered. Every sample of a SSR used in combat action must possess all combat characteristics at once in an optimal ratio between them, ensuring its maximum effectiveness. Ignoring any of the properties or enhancing one property at the expense of others will not enable the full realization of the small surveillance robot. It is reasonable to select the relevant properties at the design stage, using the possibilities of mathematical modeling. The set of tactical and technical characteristics of the SSR allowed forming this. Its characteristics determine the scope and possibilities of application. The mathematical model of the SSR motion is written in the Matlab Simulink environment. Recorded mathematical model of SSR motion, formed single test cycle and input data allowed to conduct computer simulation of motion in possible conditions of operation of small surveillance robot. The single trial cycle presented contains a set of individual sites and reproduces the testing test cycle of a real polygon. On the basis of the developed tactical and technical characteristics of the SSR, the experimental sample was made. An example of the use of SSR for the intelligence of the settlement and at keeping the node of barriers has been provided. The efficiency of performing intelligence units’ tasks and reducing the risk of human losses are shown.

Modern radio-electronic systems (RES) of weapons and military equipment (WME) are more functionally and structurally sophisticated that results in high requirements for their effective operation organisation. Insufficient level of technical knowledge among RES WME operational and maintenance personnel often results in increase of operability restoration period of these items in case of failures. This, in its turn, results in decrease of the readiness level of the RES WME pieces. In order to reduce duration of the RES WME restoring repair in case of failures, methods and tools of the auto-mated informational support of the operational and maintenance personnel activities related to the WME operation and restoring repair are developed. This article is devoted to development of a model of the automated informational support of the personnel activities in order to find rational options of the RES WME maintenance and repair organisation. The study results related to feasibility evaluation and development of the automated technical operation system model for the radio-electronic equipment incorporated in the AD WME are provided.

This article presents the iProbe concept developed by the Canadian photographer Rita Leistner. This analytical tool is one of the ways to present the image of modern warfare that emerges from messages in social media and photographs taken using smartphones. Utilized to understand the approach are photographs Leistner took at the American military base in Musa Qala (Helmand province, Afghanistan) during the implementation of the “Basetrack” media project in 2011. The theoretical basis for this study is Marshall McLuhan’s media theory, which was used by the photographer to interpret her works from Afghanistan. Leistner is the first to apply the various concepts shaped by McLuhan in the second half of 20th century, such as “probe”, “extension of man”, and the “figure/ground” dichotomy, to analyze war photography. Her blog and book entitled Looking for Marshall McLuhan in Afghanistan shows the potential of using McLuhan’s concepts to interpret the image of modern warfare presented in the contemporary media. The application of McLuhan’s theory to this type of photographic analysis provides the opportunity to focus on the technological dimension of modern war and to look at warfare from a technical perspective such as what devices and communication solutions are used to solve armed conflicts as efficiently and bloodlessly as possible. Therefore, this article briefly presents twelve iProbes that Leistner created based on her experiences from working in Afghanistan concerning photography, military equipment, interpersonal relations, and various types of communication.

AbstractSecurity issues are the global concern nowadays, which triggers government spending on military equipment and supply chain. This paper analyzes the global perspective of cohesion indicators on Militarization by using 177 countries panel data from the Years 2011-2018 based on middle/lower and high-income groups. By applied OLS and Fixed Effect modelling, we explored the idea that Group Grievance and Population Growth Rate have a significant impact on Militarization in both income groups worldwide. However, middle/lower income group’s Militarization is more fragile than high-income groups due to state cohesion. It further analyses that Security Apparatus and Fractionalization Elite are significant in Middle/ lower-income countries and have an insignificant impact on Militarization in high-income countries. In the end, the study suggested that the United Nations must keenly observe the militarization trends of the less fragile states by considering global peace concerns and should play its role to resolve the bilateral conflicts in the region to maintain world peace environment.
