Today, modern warfare has shifted from weapon-centric operations to network-centric system operations, which has led to a linear increase in the complexity of combat missions. When a commander faces a high-level mission, how to model the entire combat mission is a critical step, and it is also the basis for the generation of subsequent combat plans and combat command and control. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes a task modeling method based on the OODA loop. This method first decomposes the mission task, and defines four meta tasks based on the OODA loop theory, and finally analyzes the meta tasks from the perspective of time and information. The mission relationship is defined, which can realize the modeling and formal description of the entire combat mission process, and provide support for the follow-up combat links.

Abstract Information operations are considered a central element of modern warfare and counterinsurgency, yet there remains little systematic evidence of their effectiveness. Using a geographic quasi-experiment conducted during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, we demonstrate that civilians exposed to the government’s information campaign resulted in more civilian security cooperation, which in turn increased bomb neutralisations. These results are robust to a number of alternative model specifications that account for troop presence, patrol-based operations, and local military aid allocation. The paper demonstrates that information campaigns can lead to substantive attitudinal and behavioural changes in an adversarial environment and substantially improve battlefield outcomes.

The article discusses the history of the military-technical revolution, revealing its main characteristics. It was interesting to explain to others theconnection between the revolution and the technical and technological structure ofsociety, on the one hand, and the changes in modern warfare, its timing, the scale of the deployment of hostilities, on the other hand. The study is based on the methodology of systems analysis, as well as the use of logical generalization, synthesis, and abstraction. The authors rely on a wide range of illustrative material, which allowed to show the changes of the sixth military-technological revolution. The nature of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in modern warfare is considered factual material. Based on specific material, it is argued that the nature of modern warfare is hybrid in nature, but this hybridization itself is heterogeneous. Possible options for waging war and using certain equipment are shown. Based on analytical research, the authors focused on the transformation’s characteristic of modern wars. It is concluded that there is a transition period between the sixth and seventh technical-military revolutions that demand future interdisciplinary research.

The history of the society development and its scientific and technological progress is constantly correlated with the history of wars. The desire to raise a person’s standard of living, the rapid pace of life and the aspiration to its high quality have always depended on inventions, technological innovations and the continuous process of development. Military science and the military industry are no exception. The importance of using modern technologies and precision intellectual weapons in a 21st century war is discussed. The issue of reconnaissance drones and the kinetic-strike capability of drones in combat is highlighted, as well as their support by space-based systems. This opened a new era in the art of modern warfare and pointed to the transformation of modern warfare. The article discusses features that have actually emerged in combat in airspace and cyberspace. All the challenges and problems that accompany military decision-making process are shown in the synthesis of these actions. The role and significance of reconnaissance and fighter drones in modern large-scale or local combat operations, especially for a small country like Georgia, are also discussed.

In modern warfare, when the weapon system and the targets are constantly being improved and upgraded, ensuring the distribution of firepower to optimally destroy the target will help the commander to make quick and accurate decisions, thereby improving combat effectiveness. This paper proposes a method to build a command-control automatic system based on solving the weapon target assignment (WTA) problem in a combination of short and medium-range air defense missile systems so that the total damage of targets is maximum and the damage of protected area is minimum. Based on combinatorial optimization algorithms, the probability of kill, linear programming method using Hungarian algorithm, the paper presents a mathematical model of WTA and its optimal solution for short- and medium-range air defense missile systems serving the training simulation problem, thereby giving the results of evaluating the effectiveness of the algorithm.

The ocean is a very important arena in modern warfare where all marine powers deploy their military forces. Due to the complex environment of the ocean, underwater equipment has become a very threatening means of surprise attack in modern warfare. Therefore, the timely and effective detection of underwater moving targets is the key to obtaining warfare advantages and has important strategic significance for national security. In this paper, magnetic flux induction technology was studied with regard to the difficulty of detecting underwater concealed moving targets. Firstly, the characteristics of a magnetic target were analyzed and an equivalent magnetic dipole model was established. Secondly, the structure of the rectangular induction coil was designed according to the model, and the relationship between the target’s magnetism and the detection signal was deduced. The variation curves of the magnetic flux and the electromotive force induced in the coil were calculated by using the numerical simulation method, and the effects of the different motion parameters of the magnetic dipole and the size parameters of the coil on the induced electromotive force were analyzed. Finally, combined with the wavelet threshold filter, a series of field tests were carried out using ships of different materials in shallow water in order to verify the moving target detection method based on magnetic flux induction technology. The results showed that this method has an obvious response to moving targets and can effectively capture target signals, which verifies the feasibility of the magnetic flux induction detection technology.

The subtitle of Emmanuel Kreike’s Scorched Earth foreshadows the goal of this impressive and comprehensive contribution to the field. His goal is to chip away at the Nature-Culture dichotomy that he argues drives, and limits, much of the analysis that is produced of historical, and modern, warfare. Kreike uses the concept of environcide, which he defines as “intentionally or unintentionally damaging, destroying, or rendering inaccessible environmental infrastructure”, and argues that the traditional assumptions about nature and culture in the study of warfare obscure the importance of the natural world in determining who lives and who dies. For the field of genocide studies, Kreike’s work promotes the analysis of mass violence and potentially genocidal conflicts by looking not simply at actions taken by perpetrators directly against victims, but also at a litany of actions that perpetrators might take that could reasonably result in mass death, joining those in the field who promote a shift in the definition of genocide that includes actions that do not simply meet the definition of dolus specialis to also those that demonstrate dolus eventualis. While confiscating food and burning fields may not fit our current understanding of genocidal acts, they can certainly have the same eventual outcome as the use of machine guns and poison gas. And, recent scholars of risk factors do note the importance of “crises, resource scarcity, population pressure, natural disasters” as increasing the likelihood of genocide.

The development of irregular warfare and various phenomena of post-modern warfare increasingly make war strategies develop dynamically and adaptively. Strategy is no longer used as a tool to win wars like in the traditional era but is more directed towards how to maintain space security or security. In addition, threats are also growing rapidly and extraordinary in line with the rapid development of science and technology so that the study of strategy itself must also be adaptive and dynamic. This study uses a qualitative approach by using a literature study. The results of the study prove that to deal with this, the government needs to integrate between actors competing in irregular wars to support national security. The government must also take firm and bold steps to make 'peace' with non-state actors.

This thesis is an interpretation of the history and character of the Anglican Pacifist Fellowship in New Zealand (NZAPF). It focuses on accounting for the limited growth and influence of the Fellowship upon New Zealand’s largest Christian denomination, and on the continuing marginality of the pacifist position. Throughout its history, the organisation has sought to convince others within the Anglican Church that an absolutist, politically engaged and non-anarchistic pacifism is the truest Christian response to the problem of modern warfare. This has been attempted primarily through efforts at education aimed at both clergy and laity. The thesis argues that the NZAPF has been characterised by a commitment to absolute doctrinaire pacifism, despite ongoing tensions between this position and more pragmatic considerations. Overall, the NZAPF attracted only a small group of members throughout its history, and it exerted a limited demonstrable influence on the Anglican Church. This thesis analyses the reasons for this, focusing especially on those factors which arose from the nature of the NZAPF itself, the character of its pacifism, and the relationship between the NZAPF and its primary target audience, the Anglican Church in New Zealand. The research is based on literature and correspondence from the NZAPF as well as personal communication with extant members, where this was feasible. It additionally draws on a range of relevant secondary literature on Christian pacifism, and the history of the Anglican Church and the peace movement in New Zealand.
