Effect of carbon powder content on compressive strength and alkalinity of ecological concrete

Waste glass is a bulk solid waste, and its utilization is of great consequence for environmental protection; the application of waste glass to magnesium phosphate cement can also play a prominent role in its recycling. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of glass powder (GP) on the mechanical and working properties of magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC). Moreover, a 40mm × 40mm × 40mm mold was used in this experiment, the workability, setting time, strength, hydration heat release, porosity, and microstructure of the specimens were evaluated. The results indicated that the addition of glass powder prolonged the setting time of MKPC, reduced the workability of the matrix, and effectively lowered the hydration heat of the MKPC. Compared to an M/P ratio (MgO/KH2PO4 mass ratio) of 1:1, the workability of the MKPC with M/P ratios of 2:1 and 3:1 was reduced by 1% and 2.1%, respectively, and the peak hydration temperatures were reduced by 0.5% and 14.6%, respectively. The compressive strength of MKPC increased with an increase in the glass powder content at the M/P ratio of 1:1, and the addition of glass powder reduced the porosity of the matrix, effectively increased the yield of struvite-K, and affected the morphology of the hydration products. With an increase in the M/P ratio, the struvite-K content decreased, many tiny pores were more prevalent on the surface of the matrix, and the bonding integrity between the MKPC was weakened, thereby reducing the compressive strength of the matrix. At less than 40 wt.% glass powder content, the performance of MKPC improved at an M/P ratio of 1:1. In general, the addition of glass powders improved the mechanical properties of MKPC and reduced the heat of hydration.

Porous anorthite/mullite composite ceramics with different mullite content were fabricated by foam-gelcasting, using CaCO3, SiO2, α-Al2O3as raw material for anorthite phase and mullite powder for mullite phase. Effects of mullite powder content on bulk density, porosity, compressive strength and thermal conductivity of the porous composite ceramics were researched. It has been shown that mullite powder content has great effect on microstructure and properties of the porous anorthite⁄mullite composite ceramics. The open porosity of the prepared porous anorthite⁄mullite composite ceramics is in the range of 58.7 %~77.5 %, the compressive strength is between 4.2 and 30.9 MPa, and the thermal conductivity is in the range of 0.18 ~1.47 W⁄(m·K).

This study was undertaken to reduce the usage of cement in concrete where different proportions of tile powder as cement replacement were used. Since in the manufacture of cement an exuberant amount of carbon dioxide is disposed of in the environment, this research aims to curtail the dependence on cement and its production. The objective of this work is to investigate the properties of fresh mix concrete (workability) and hardened concrete (compressive and splitting tensile strength) in concrete with different proportions of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% of tile powder as a cement substitute. In this study, a total of 90 concrete samples were cast with mix proportions of 1:1.5:3, 0.5 water-cement ratio, cured for 7, 14 and 28 days. For determining the compressive strength, cubical samples, with dimensions of 100mm×100mm×100mm, were cast, while for the determination of the splitting tensile strength, cylindrical samples with dimensions of 200mm diameter and 100mm height, were tested after 7, 14, and 28 days. The highest compressive strength of concrete achieved for tile powder concrete was 7.50% at 10% replacement after 28days of curing. The splitting tensile strength got to 10.2% when concrete was replaced with 10% of tile powder and cured for 28 days. It was also shown that with increasing percentage of the tile powder content, the workability of the fresh concrete increases.

To solve the problem of environmental pollution caused by the accumulation of granite powder and the shortage of traditional mineral admixtures, the influence of the amount of granite powder on the mechanical properties of concrete was studied by replacing cement with different amount of granite powder Different amount of granite powder can be used to prepare concrete with satisfactory performance. When the amount of granite powder is small (not more than 5%), granite powder will not reduce the compressive strength of concrete, or even slightly improve the compressive strength of pure cement concrete. When the amount of granite powder is more than 5%, the compressive strength of concrete will gradually decrease; when the amount of granite powder is more than 5%, the compressive strength of concrete will gradually decrease. The elastic modulus of concrete decreased, and the electric flux increased with the increase of the amount of admixture.

Reusing of stone powder formed in the production of manufactured sand is of great significance to environmental protection and resource utilization. In this paper, C30 and C40 environment-friendly manufactured sand concrete were prepared by adding 6%, 9%, 12% and 15% of waste boulder powder from manufactured sand production line into concrete and controlling the total weight of manufactured sand and rock powder to be constant. The influence of stone powder on concrete fluidity, compressive strength and elastic modulus were analysed. It was found that with the increase of stone powder content, the compressive strength of fresh paste and C30 concrete first increased and then decreased, while the elastic modulus of concrete and the compressive strength of C40 concrete continued to decrease. It is suggested that the content of rock powder should not exceed 9%.

This research studied the effect of eggshell powder as a partial replacement of cement on fresh and hardened properties of concrete. The cement was partially replaced with eggshell powder at these percentage 0%, 2.5 %, 5 %, 7.5% and 10%, (by weight of cement). The resulting concrete was compared for impact resistance, energy absorption, load-slip characteristics and ultimate bond strength. setting time (initial and final), slump, density and compressive strength also have been found. The obtaining results indicated the advantage of incorporation of eggshell powder in concrete. The concrete unit weight has not obviously affected by eggshell powder content. The 2.5% eggshell powder give the best results compared to reference mix.

The effects of recycled rubber powder on working abilities, density and compressive strength of high strength concrete (HSC) at room temperature were studied in this paper. The characteristics of rubberized high strength concrete (RHSC) after fire was investigated by surface observation, weight loss and retained strength testing. The sieve number of rubber powder used in test is No.40 (420μm), No.60 (250µm) and No.80 (178µm), and the content of rubber powder filled in RHSC is 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% with respect to cementation material respectively. Test results show that the increase in rubber powder content reduces the concrete strength, while the decrease in compressive strength of RHSC is less than 10% when the content of rubber powder is within 2%. RHSC with small content of rubber (1%) can restrain the spalling failure of concrete under high temperature.

AbstractCeramic-metal composites have been produced through the reduction of copper oxide (CuO) and the oxidation of aluminum in a reducing atmosphere. Fine powders of CuO and Al (<38μm) were mixed with yttria stabilized zirconia, ball milled and uniaxially pressed into disc samples. Microwave hybrid heating was used to process samples using β-SiC and activated carbon powder as susceptors. Pyrolysis of the carbon provided the reducing atmosphere. The resulting Ctt/Al2O3/Y-ZrO2 composite was analyzed for density, compressive strength and resistivity.

The use of orthogonal test method, the concrete mixed with limestone power and fly ash was carried out static compressive experiment, and contrast with the experiment of single doped with limestone powder and fly ash concrete. The experimental result demonstrated that the compressive strength enhancement effect of the concrete mixed with limestone power and fly ash was obvious. The importance of each factor affecting static compressive strength as follows: water-cement ratio, the amount of fly ash, the amount of limestone powder, sand ratio. The concrete compressive strength reached the maximum when the water-cement ratio reached 0.3, the limestone powder content reached 15%, the fly ash content reached 10%, and sand ratio reached 34%.

Based on experiments of C30 concrete with manufactured sand, this paper studied on the workability and compressive strength of the manufactured sand concrete with 7 different fineness modulus and different weight fractions (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%) of stone powder. The results show that the fineness modulus and the stone powder content in the gradation parameters of manufactured sand have great effects on the concrete performance. When the fineness modulus of manufactured sand is about 2.8, the workability and compressive strength of concrete can be improved. As the content of stone powder increases, the workability and compressive strength of concrete firstly increase and then decrease, and the optimal weight fraction of stone powder is about 6%. The research results can provide reference for the production and application of gneiss manufactured sand.
