A novel educational platform, based on the Raspberry-Pi: Optimised to assist the teaching and learning of younger students

Teaching and learning are important factors in our life, so, increasing the happiness during class cause raising the ability of learning. This research focused on the evaluation of the learning process via classroom before and after applying the proposed method. One of the big challenge during classroom lesson, the students after a short period of time (about 10-15 minutes) at the beginning of the session, turn off their minds and remain absolutely out of understanding. Our goal is to revitalize the classroom environment so that you are always attentive to the lecture. The proposed approach aims to track and detect the emotional facial expression and transient from emotional facial expression to raise the happy expression in order to reach the classroom happiness. Image processing issue is an important part of this approach in which based on face recognition and tracking, then evaluates the students’ happiness according to the proposed mode that located in the classroom. This model is implemented from Raspberry Pi device, tracking camera and high definition screen. The implemented algorithm allows you to continue of face tracing and make rising of happiness as possible. Increasing happiness is an important factor in making students more attractive and more understanding for the classroom lecture. This approach is implemented to cover both software and hardware, so, it is acceptable to work in real time.

Kehadiran guru sangat berpengaruh terhadap proses belajar mengajar di sekolah maka dari itu seorang guru haruslah disiplin dalam melakukan kehadiran setiap harinya. Presensi merupakan salah satu cara untuk mencatat kehadiran guru. Berdasarkan hasil dari observasi dan wawancara di sekolah proses presensi masih dilakukan dengan cara melakukan tanda tangan diatas kertas. Cara ini masih kurang efektif dilakukan karena masih ditemui beberapa kelemahan seperti menitip tanda tangan, hadir terlambat dan lupa tanda tangan. Proses pelaporan presensi ke Disdik Kabupaten Bengkalis juga masih dilakukan dengan cara mengirim hasil rekap dalam bentuk laporan. Maka dibutuhkan aplikasi presensi dengan menggunakan mesin sidik jari untuk memudahkan proses presensi. Data presensi akan dikirim ke dalam sebuah server raspberry pi menggunakan web service SOAP dan disimpan kedalam database MySql. Data presensi juga akan dikirim ke Disdik menggunakan web service REST. Hal ini sangat bermanfaat untuk meminimalisir terjadinya kecurangan dalam melakukan presensi, mudah dalam memonitoring kehadiran dan rekap data presensi guru. Disdik Kabupaten Bengkalis juga lebih mudah dalam memonitoring kehadiran guru karena sistem presensi guru di sekolah sudah terintegrasi dengan sistem yang dimiliki oleh Disdik.   Kata kunci: Fingerprint, Presensi, Web Service, Raspberry Pi   Abstract  The presence of teachers is very influential on the teaching and learning process in schools so a teacher must be disciplined in making attendance every day. Presence is one way of record teacher attendance. Based on the results of observations and interviews in schools the attendance process is still done by doing a signature on paper. This method is still less effective because there are still some weaknesses such as signing autographs, being late and forgetting signatures. The process of reporting attendance to Bengkalis District Education Office is also still done by sending the recap results in the form of reports. Then the presence application is needed by using a fingerprint machine to facilitate the presence process. Presence data will be sent to a raspberry pi server using the SOAP web service and stored in the MySql database. Presence data will also be sent to Disdik using the REST web service. This is handy to minimize the occurrence of fraud in presence, easy to monitor the presence and recap of teacher attendance data. The District Education Office of Bengkalis District is also easier to monitor teacher attendance because the teacher attendance system in schools have been integrated with the system owned by Disdik.    Keywords: Fingerprint, Presence, Web Server, Raspberry Pi

Virtual Reality (VR) is a new form as integration of technologies that overlays computer-generated information on real world. Virtual reality can be used to enhance student learning and engagement. VR education can transform the way educational content is delivered; it works on the premise of creating a virtual world, real or imagined and allows users not only see it but also interact with it. Hence, educator has begun to seek technologies that have potential to be integrated in education in order to help students learn effectively and enhance their understanding. The focus of this research is on development of mobile application on Raspberry Pi topic by using Virtual Reality technology from Computer Architecture and Organization subject in University Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Student have difficulty to understand and even not know what is Raspberry Pi besides less usage of mobile application on Virtual Reality, the application could help them understand the functionality of Raspberry Pi better and effectively. By using PROTOTYPING model, evaluation phase consisted of post tested have been carried out on target user as to see the learning effectiveness from student achieved. The result of finding shows that the students think that VR-Pi application is easy to use and the note provided is appropriate and easy to understand. Thus, this mobile application of VR technology could enhance the traditional form of teaching and learning in order to improve student’s knowledge and interest about Raspberry Pi which improves their understanding and experience using technology while learning.

Smartphone has become a daily necessity in supporting the mobility of users, including teachers and students. The need of users to make multi-presentation via a smartphone wirelessly does not fit with the cost and multiplatform support. This study aims to produce a solution by using Raspberry Pi as a wireless digital media player that will be applied to educational institutions to make multi-presentation wirelessly at efficient cost. The results obtained from this study is a wireless digital media player application that is installed in Raspberry Pi, a credit-card size single board computer, and an Android application whose features of sending image, presentation, splitting screen, and able to give control and access grant. The conclusion is an application can augment user mobility within the presentation in teaching and learning effectively.

Abstrak — Politeknik Negeri Lhokseumawe menyediakan Web server untuk mengakses berbagai macam informasi sekitaran jurusan dan program studi khususnya Prodi Teknik Multimedia dan Jaringan. Web bukan hanya untuk menyampaikan sebatas informasi pada prodi, tetapi juga dapat memonitoring jadwal belajar mengajar meggunakan Raspberry Pi sebagai server mini, pengganti komputer yang biasanya digunakan untuk server. Selama ini monitoring jadwal belajar mengajar dilakukan secara manual, sistem ini dibuat untuk memonitoring secara otomatis. Perancangan sistem berbasis Web dengan pemprograman HTML, PHP, MYSQL dan SMS gateway dengan gammu sebagai servicenya. Operasi yang berjalan dalam SMS gateway ini yaitu, pesan broadcast yang dapat mengirimkan pesan kebanyak tujuan sesuai dengan jadwal dan auto respon atau sistem dapat menerima pesan dan mengirim kembali ke nomor tujuan jika ada secara otomatis. Parameter nilai yang diiambil berdasarkan data waktu yang diatur dalam sistem. Dengan adanya sistem ini dapat mempermudah prodi Teknik Multimedia dan Jaringan dalam memonitoring jadwal belajar mengajar.Kata Kunci : Web, SMS Gateway, Gammu, Raspberry Pi Abstract — Lhokseumawe State  of Polytechnic provides a Web server to access various kinds of information around majors and study programs, especially Multimedia Engineering and Networks. The Web is not just for delivering information on the study program, but also monitoring the schedule of teaching lessons using Raspberry Pi as a mini server, a replacement for computers that are usually used for servers. During this time monitoring of teaching and learning schedule is done manually, this system is made to monitor automatically. Web-based system design with HTML, PHP, MYSQL and SMS gateway programming with gammu as its service. The operation that runs in this SMS gateway is, broadcast messages that can send messages to many destinations in accordance with schedule and auto response or the system can receive messages and send back to the destination number if it exists automatically. The value parameter is retrieved based on the time data set in the system. Abstract Despite the growing popularity of network operating system courses in vocational high schools, issues have been raised regarding the lack of appropriate computer hardware specifications and the limited use of real networking devices. The media that have been used in teaching network operating systems have been based on virtualization-based simulation. However, such virtualization does not expose students to real hardware. This results in less than optimal hands-on activities and students’ psychomotor abilities. Consequently, alternative authentic media are needed to accommodate practical learning and improve psychomotor skills. The aim of this study is to explore the implementation of a single-board microcomputer in learning network operating systems. The Raspberry Pi was chosen as it can replace the role of a non-simulation PC. The choice of Raspberry Pi was also based on the fact that in Indonesia it is still rare to find its implementation for teaching and learning activities in vocational high school, so it is necessary to introduce the device to students. The operating system used by the Raspberry Pi is similar to Ubuntu, which is one of the network operating systems that must be mastered by vocational IT students. The research made a comparison between the two learning media as employed by two groups of students in different classes, one using virtualization-based simulation and the other using the Raspberry Pi. Based on the results, it is concluded that the use of the Raspberry Pi is more effective than that of virtualization-based simulation in improving students’ psychomotor and troubleshooting skills.

Abstract The intent of this article is to share my research endeavors in order to raise awareness of issues relative to what and how we teach as a means to spark interest in applying the scholarship of teaching and learning to what we do as faculty in communication sciences and disorders (CSD). My own interest in teaching and learning emerged rather abruptly after I introduced academic service-learning (AS-L) into one of my graduate courses (Stevens, 2002). To better prepare students to enter our profession, I have provided them with unique learning opportunities working with various community partners including both speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and teachers who supported persons with severe communication disorders.

Abstract The use of podcasting is incredibly widespread, with experts estimating that 60 million Americans will be using podcasting in some form by 2010. The use of podcasting has grown beyond entertainment to become an educational tool, showing promise as a way to disseminate information and create networks of professional learners. However, despite the growing clinical and educational uses of podcasting in other professional disciplines, podcasting is being used primarily as a continuing education tool for speech-language pathologists and audiologists at this time. This article provides guidelines and examines the potential applications for use of podcasting in teaching and learning in communication sciences and disorders.
