With chapter 6 having described the way norms for mental-state ascriptions operate in a top-down manner in discourse domains, chapter 7 explores how individual narratives can in turn have a bottom-up impact on the ascriptive norms circulating within particular domains. To this end, the chapter discusses how Thalia Field’s 2010 experimental narrative Bird Lovers, Backyard employs a strategic oscillation between two nomenclatures that can be used to profile nonhuman as well as human behaviors: (1) the register of action, which characterizes behavior in terms of motivations, goals, and projects; and (2) the register of events, which characterizes behavior in terms of caused movements that have duration in time and direction in space. In braiding together these two registers, Field’s text suggests not only how discourse practices can be repatterned, but also how such repatterning enables broader paradigm shifts—in this case shifts in ways of understanding cross-species encounters and entanglements.

AbstractThe majority of human behaviors are composed of automatic movements (e.g., walking or finger-tapping) which are learned during nurturing and can be performed simultaneously without interfering with other tasks. One critical and yet to be examined assumption is that the attention system has the innate capacity to modulate automatic movements. The present study tests this assumption. Setting no deliberate goals for movement, we required sixteen participants to perform personalized and well-practiced finger-tapping movements in three experiments while focusing their attention on either different component fingers or away from movements. Using cutting-edge pose estimation techniques to quantify tapping trajectory, we showed that attention to movement can disrupt movement automaticity, as indicated by decreased inter-finger and inter-trial temporal coherence; facilitate the attended and inhibit the unattended movements in terms of tapping amplitude; and re-organize the action sequence into distinctive patterns according to the focus of attention. These findings demonstrate compelling evidence that attention can modulate automatic movements and provide an empirical foundation for theories based on such modulation in controlling human behavior.

Are there any methods whereby we may understand the cultures of modern nation-societies both as to their detailed components and as to their total configurational characteristics? Anthropologists receive such queries because modern ethnological field work and other anthropological methods have been able to produce reliable descriptive analyses of so-called primitive tribes and small communities that are both comprehensive and detailed. And, on the basis of such data collected in a wide variety of cultures around the world, science has acquired not only a rich store of knowledge concerning the substantive varieties of human social behavior, but also a fairly elaborated theoretical apparatus regarding culture in general. With such knowledge and theory it is possible to explain and even to predict many human behaviors and attitudes that were formerly beyond the reach of science.

Abstract Law and Economics is one of the disciplines in the jurisprudence that offers the primacy of economic efficiency as the rule of law in directing the practice of law. With further conceptualization, economic efficiency is also useful in judging and assessing the law. One relevant form of economic efficiency discussed in this paper is the economic approach to law in formulating the expected profit of the law. In this case, economic efficiency transforms law into an incentive to change human behaviors as well as to maintain certain behaviors that are already in line with the objectives of the law. Laws should determine remedies by way of punishment and rewards as an incentive to reveal certain crucial aspects of jurisprudence.

The background of persuasive technologies is the traditional interpersonal persuasion, studied for over two thousand years in rethoric, philosophy, and more recently in psychology. This last discipline offers many theories and models to understand more precisely the processes that influence human behaviors. These theories show in particular that persuasive situations are complex, varied, with many influence factors. Therefore, we propose the notion of adaptive persuasive technologies, i.e. technologies able to adapt their persuasive strategies to the user context. To design such products and services, we propose a model of the persuasive context, i.e. of all the constraints that influence a user’s targeted behavior at a given time. Each constraint in the persuasive context is at the same time an adaptation criterion and an action leverage for the adaptive persuasive technology.

As emotions play a crucial role in organizations, many researchers have turned their attention to examining emotions in organizational behavior studies to gain a more in-depth understanding of human behaviors within organizations. Leaders’ emotions are deemed important as key elements of effective leadership. Leaders attempt to manage their emotions when interacting with their followers, and these emotions ultimately influence their wellbeing and attitudes. Perceived organizational justice is also proposed as an important factor that might intervene this relationship. Hence, this paper proposed a theoretical framework for studying the relationship between leaders’ emotional labor strategies and wellbeing, in which perceived organizational justice is the mediating factor.

Article endeavors to analyze the prophetic guiding principles regarding human behaviors related to plants and trees being an important component of our environment. The discussion mainly deals with the key environmental issues emphasizing plantation and its significance for balancing the equilibrium of the environment. Additionally, it thrashes out that humans are urged to seedling the plantation even the world is to be ended in Islam. The present study is delimited to the present ecological crises faced by society and a great challenge to the globe. The current ecological problems i.e global warming and climate change are interpreted just to analyze the environmental behaviors in Hadith literature. However, a profundity descriptive study has been conducted in the most influential way to examine the prophetic rules for human behaviors related to trees and plants being environment friendly. Furthermore, the existing practices of humans related to such an environmental sphere also been aptly figure out to highlight all possible ways in the light of prophetic guidance to deal with prevailing environmental issues. Inconsistency between religious teachings and human behaviors need the keen interest of religious scholars and social scientists to carefully harmonize both for maintaining the ecological balance in nature.
