AbstractThis article presents a new strategy for reviewing large, multidisciplinary academic literatures: a multi-method comprehensive review (MCR). We present this approach and demonstrate its use by the NGO Knowledge Collective, which aims to aggregate knowledge on NGOs in international development. We explain the process by which scholars can identify, analyze, and synthesize a population of hundreds or thousands of articles. MCRs facilitate cross-disciplinary synthesis, systematically identify gaps in a literature, and can create data for further scholarly use. The main drawback is the significant resources needed to manage the volume of text to review, although such obstacles may be mitigated through advances in “big data” methodologies over time.

In the process of wastewater treatment by coagulation a large amount of sediment is being produced, which is the main drawback of this method. Therefore, the development of utilization or recirculation technology of the waste obtained, the research of the obtained by-products should be conducted. Within the scope of this work, the sediment, that is being formed during the coagulation of the model wastewater containing the wood originated pollutants, was studied. Using the aluminium-containing composition coagulant on a base of polyaluminium chloride, coagulates characterized by the low sludge volume index within 30 minutes (89 ml g-1), and the optimal time of sedimentation is 20-30 minutes. The coagulate particles have an average size of 45.8 μm. The derived coagulate is composed primarily of carbon (27.9%), oxygen (49.4%) and aluminum (10.9%). Carbon, oxygen and hydrogen belong to an organic part of coagulate-the wood pollutants, which, in turn, has a high content of hemicellulose. It is concluded that the existing hemicellulose in the obtained coagulate is characterized by O-acetyl-4-O-methyl-D-glucuron-β-D-xylan with β-(1-4)-glucomannose.

Depth filtration of liquids is a well established process. Its main drawback is that it does not effectively remove particles smaller than about 2-3 µm diameter, because they do not normally approach near enough to the surface of the medium to become attached to it. A static electrical field overcomes this by promoting electrophoretic movement of the particles. The work has studied particle removal from low conductivity water through fibrous depth filters and has covered a variety of fibres with different physical properties. The results yield a fibre efficiency series, which suggest the relationship between filtration efficiency and the electrical properties of the fibre.

3D scanning is one of the basic methods to gather data for reverse engineering. The main drawback of 3D scanning is that its output - the point cloud - can never be used directly to define surfaces or solids useful to reconstruct the electronic 3D model of the scanned part. The paper presents a piece of software designed in VisualLISP for AutoCAD, software that acts as a point cloud to 3D primitives converter. The novelty consists of the method used to find the parameters of the primitive that best fits to the point cloud: the mass properties of regions are used to find the center of a cones cross section. Parts have been scanned and the point clouds processed. The results obtained prove the correctness of the algorithm and of the method applied. A piece of software that processes the point cloud in order to find the 3D primitive that it fits the best has been developed. The output is the 3D primitive that successfully and accurate replaces the point cloud. Some adjacent tools were designed, so the entire software package becomes a useful tool for the reverse engineering user. The ways the researches can be continued and developed are foreseen, as well

Cascaded multilevel inverter (CMI) topology is prevalent in many applications. However, the CMI requires many switches and isolated dc sources, which is the main drawback of this type of inverter. As a result, the volume, cost and complexity of the CMI topology are increased and the efficiency is deteriorated. This paper thus proposes a switched-capacitor-based multilevel inverter topology with half-bridge cells and only one dc source. Compared to the conventional CMI, the proposed inverter uses almost half the number of switches, while maintaining a boosting capability. Additionally, the main drawback of switched-capacitor multilevel inverters is the capacitor inrush current. This problem is also averted in the proposed topology by using a charging inductor or quasi-resonant capacitor charging with a front-end boost converter. Simulation results and lab-scale experimental verifications are provided to validate the feasibility and viability of the proposed inverter topology.

The utilization of lignocellulosic biomass in various applications has a promising potential as advanced technology progresses due to its renowned advantages as cheap and abundant feedstock. The main drawback in the utilization of this type of biomass is the essential requirement for the pretreatment process. The most common pretreatment process applied is chemical pretreatment. However, it is a non-eco-friendly process. Therefore, this review aims to bring into light several greener pretreatment processes as an alternative approach for the current chemical pretreatment. The main processes for each physical and biological pretreatment process are reviewed and highlighted. Additionally, recent advances in the effect of different non-chemical pretreatment approaches for the natural fibres are also critically discussed with a focus on bioproducts conversion.

New improved multilevel inverter (MLI) topology for Renewable energy systems is proposed in this paper. Cascaded multilevel inverters (CMLI) produce an output voltage level depending on the number of individual sources connected. The main drawback of CMLI is, as the output voltage level increases in number, the switches used in the device also increases and hence the complexity of the circuit increases. As the number of switches increases, the reliability of the circuit decreases. In this paper a novel MLI topology, which employs lesser number of switches, is proposed. A simulation model of CMLI and the proposed MLI has been built in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The reliability of the CMLI and the new topology MLI is analyzed by using MIL-HDBK-217.

We can see a person standing in front of our house from electricity board, whose duty is to read the energy meter and handover the bills to the owner of that house every two months. This is nothing but meter reading. According to that reading we have to pay the bills. The main drawback of this system is that person has to go area by area and he has to read the meter of every house and handover the bills. Many times errors like extra bill amount, or notification from electric board even though the bills are paid are common errors. To overcome this drawback we have come up with an idea which will eliminate the third party between the consumer and service provider, even the errors will be overcome. The idea of smart energy meter using IOT and Arduino has been introduced. In this method we are using Arduino because it is energy efficient i.e. it consume less power, it is fastest and has two UARTS. In this paper, energy meter which is already installed at our houses are no t replaced, but a small modification on the already installed meters can change the existing meters into smart meters.

The advancement in nature has prompted the presentation of very effective organic systems. Emulating these instruments offers gigantic possibilities for the change of our life and the apparatuses we utilize. Nowadays, the robot is biggest mechanism that is used for each and every process as it has the gripper assembly designed uses a flexible casing which grasps the tree trunk of almost all diameter within the predefined range, basically it uses passive compliance. This mechanism can be used for climbing trees which are almost height like coconut trees and poles. The main drawback is being slow and there is a possibility of damaging the tree trunk. Hence this system propose a new tree climbing mechanism for multi tree climbing robot that can be used to climb trees that are almost straight and height.
