Research related to English as Foreign Language (EFL) curricula in Colombia is scant and mainly focuses on the analysis of policies and the challenges they pose to institutions. Consequently, there is a need for studies of EFL curricula in place in Colombia to serve as basis for evaluation and adjustment of current educational policies. This descriptive study follows a qualitative exploratory approach and addresses this gap by identifying the characteristics of the EFL curricula from twelve state schools. Data were reviewed and evaluated using document and comparative analysis techniques. Results reveal that all institutions have curricular documents but not all those requested by the educational authorities. Some of these documents show a lack of consistency in terms of the conceptual underpinnings as well as a misalignment with the national requirements or with contextual needs. While awareness of the importance of having strong English programs and the positive outlook shown by institutional stakeholders seem to be conditions for success, limitations related to allocation of resources, classroom conditions, and environments conducive to learning hinder the implementation of the EFL curriculum.

This explorative-descriptive study set out to examine the equivalence among Test of English Proficiency (TOEP) forms, developed by the Indonesian Testing Service Centre (ITSC) and co-founded by The Association for The Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) and The Association of Psychology in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, the researchers collected the data through documenting the responses of those taking TOEP in 2016 and 2017, involving six TOEP forms in 2016 and four TOEP forms in 2017. All the forms were developed using the same test grid and construct to measure the listening and reading skills. The equality among the six forms was tested using the equating technique, which involved (1) the estimation of the item parameter using the Rasch model, (2) examination of the test characteristics curve for each form, and (3) interpretation of results. The results showed that all the TOEP forms used in 2016 and 2017 were equal with one another. It can be concluded then that the developed TOEP forms have the same level of difficulty and ensure justice for all test takers.

In learning Maharah al-Istima, a lecturer at a college in Palangka Raya uses films from Youtube. Learning to listen to a foreign language cannot separated from problems, but students try to find solutions. This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore the use of films from Youtube in Maharah al-Istima's learning, listening problems and their solutions. The data were collected through observation, interview and documentation techniques, and the data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the lecturer used movies from Youtube offline and online by collecting, selecting, verifying credibility and evaluating the quality of the film. This activity trains students to listen to Arabic and increase their knowledge so that the results of listening of the students are good. The problems faced by students while learning to listen are the fast Arabic pronunciation, the lack of clarity in conversations and the difficulty in vocabulary. Students solve the first problem by playing back, focusing on listening or using dictionaries and other learning strategies. For the second problem, the students overcome them by focusing and understanding the context of the sentences, using a dictionary or other learning strategies. For the third problem, the solution is to train hearing, using a dictionary and reading frequently. The implication of this study is that multimedia communication can help improve the student's listening ability in both offline and online learning.

The purpose of the descriptive study is to explore the English as a foreign language second-semester students’ writing anxiety. The students were from a private university in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. A total of 92 students who were selected randomly filled the writing anxiety questionnaire. The writing anxiety questionnaire reports that 53.26 % (n= 49) of the students experienced low writing anxiety and 46.74% (n= 43) of the students experienced high writing anxiety. In terms of the components of writing anxiety, the students experienced anxiety in the component of evaluation (mean score of 19.86), product (mean score of 19.25), and stress (mean score of 16.52). This study also has shown that writing anxiety caused by stress can be considered less frequent anxiety component that has been experienced by the students. It is suggested that students should learn to manage their problems that are related to writing. To do so, the lecturer should guide the students to help them to reduce their writing anxiety and help improve the students’ writing skills.
