The selection of a suitable contractor for a construction project is one of the most important decisions a client can make for the development of the project. Prequalification is a procedure to examine and gauge the competency and skills of contractors to successfully complete a project if it is given to them. However, the evaluation employed for some prequalification is still ambiguous or highly subjective. This study aims to investigate the shortcoming of the current prequalification evaluation for contractor selection. The methodology of the study is based on a comprehensive literature review and expert survey whereby the criticality of data, obtained from the literature was analysed using expert in the field. Among the prequalification criteria, the current evaluation that employed for management capability is highly ambiguous. Two important shortcomings of current prequalification models regarding the evaluation of management capability were identified. First, the models are not comprehensive since all the variables related to the management capability are not included. Secondly, the models focused almost exclusively on time and cost performance as outcome variables, which may not be enough to evaluate the management capability of contractors. Better evaluation methods have to be developed to assess the management capability prequalification as it has a major impact on time and cost performance of contractors. Therefor future study must be conducted to develop a model that evaluates the management capability of contractors based on the relative variables for the purpose of improving current prequalification selection.

The contractor is the primary stakeholder in materializing a project concept. For the successful completion of any project, it is compulsory for the contractor to have relevant experience. The selection of the appropriate contractor depends on various criteria. This study aims to study these selection criteria. Based on 71 questionnaire forms received from representatives of contractor, consultant and client firms involved in execution works of construction activities it is found that quality, bid amount, technical capability, financial stability, and experience are five commonly adopted criteria for contractor selection in construction works in Pakistan. On the other hand, quality, technical capability, financial stability, equipment availability, and management capability are reported as the top five effective criteria for appropriate contractor selection for any construction project.

There exists a widespread interest in the application of gas turbine Power Augmentation Technologies (PATs) in both electric power generation and mechanical drive markets. This interest is attributable to liberalization in the power generation sector, increased electric rates during peak demand period and need for a proper selection of the gas turbine in a given application. In the Part I of this study, a comprehensive literature review of the current technologies — investigating analytical, experimental, and practical aspects — is provided. Moreover, a schematic comparison, useful for the PATs selection, will be presented and discussed.

AbstractReports of incidental pneumomediastinum in infants secondary to inflicted trauma are limited. A retrospective review of infants with pneumomediastinum and history of inflicted trauma was performed. A comprehensive literature review was performed. Three infants presented with pneumomediastinum associated with inflicted trauma. Mean age was 4.6 weeks. All patients underwent diagnostic studies, as well as a standardized evaluation for nonaccidental trauma. All patients with pneumomediastinum were resolved at follow-up. Review of the literature identified other cases with similar presentations with related oropharyngeal injuries. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum in previously healthy infants may be associated with inflicted injuries. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of an oropharyngeal perforation related to this presentation.

Aim/Purpose: This paper presents a study of Virtual Communities of Practice (VCoP) evaluation methods that aims to identify their current status and impact on knowledge sharing. The purposes of the study are as follows: (i) to identify trends and research gaps in VCoP evaluation methods; and, (ii) to assist researchers to position new research activities in this domain. Background: VCoP have become a popular knowledge sharing mechanism for both individuals and organizations. Their evaluation process is complex; however, it is recognized as an essential means to provide evidences of community effectiveness. Moreover, VCoP have introduced additional features to face to face Communities of Practice (CoP) that need to be taken into account in evaluation processes, such as geographical dispersion. The fact that VCoP rely on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to execute their practices as well as storing artifacts virtually makes more consistent data analysis possible; thus, the evaluation process can apply automatic data gathering and analysis. Methodology: A systematic mapping study, based on five research questions, was carried out in order to analyze existing studies about VCoP evaluation methods and frameworks. The mapping included searching five research databases resulting in the selection of 1,417 papers over which a formal analysis process was applied. This process led to the preliminary selection of 39 primary studies for complete reading. After reading them, we select 28 relevant primary studies from which data was extracted and synthesized to answer the proposed research questions. Contribution: The authors of the primary studies analyzed along this systematic mapping propose a set of methods and strategies for evaluating VCoP, such as frameworks, processes and maturity models. Our main contribution is the identification of some research gaps present in the body of studies, in order to stimulate projects that can improve VCoP evaluation methods and support its important role in social learning. Findings: The systematic mapping led to the conclusion that most of the approaches for VCoP evaluation do not consider the combination of data structured and unstructured metrics. In addition, there is a lack of guidelines to support community operators’ actions based on evaluation metrics.

: Triazole is a valuable platform in medicinal chemistry, possessing assorted pharmacological properties, which could play a major role in the common mechanisms associated with various disorders like cancer, infections, inflammation, convulsions, oxidative stress and neurodegeneration. Structural modification of this scaffold could be helpful in the generation of new therapeutically useful agents. Although research endeavors are moving towards the growth of synthetic analogs of triazole, there is still a lot of scope to achieve drug discovery break-through in this area. Upcoming therapeutic prospective of this moiety has captured the attention of medicinal chemists to synthesize novel triazole derivatives. The authors amalgamated the chemistry, synthetic strategies and detailed pharmacological activities of the triazole nucleus in the present review. Information regarding the marketed triazole derivatives has also been incorporated. The objective of the review is to provide insights to designing and synthesizing novel triazole derivatives with advanced and unexplored pharmacological implications.

Recent empirical work suggests that phubbing, a term used to describe the practice of snubbing someone with a phone during a face-to-face social interaction, harms the quality of social relationships. Based on a comprehensive literature review, this chapter presents a framework that integrates three concurrent mechanisms that explain the relational impact of phubbing: expectancy violations, ostracism, and attentional conflict. Based on this framework, theoretically grounded propositions are formulated that may serve as guidelines for future research on these mechanisms, the conditions under which they operate, and a number of potential issues that need to be considered to further validate and extend the framework.
