The present study aims to build a criterion- reference test to measure linguistic competencies of secondary school students in Riyadh, and to verify its psychometric characteristics. The descriptive survey method was used as it is the appropriate method to achieve the objectives of the study. Further, the sample of the study consists of (50769) students, representing all secondary students in Riyadh between 1439/1440 AH in accordance with the data obtained by the researcher. Also, the population of the current study consists of (983) secondary students in Riyadh as a sample. The researcher built the test in four stages: (analysis stage- construction phase- experimentation stage- output stage). After passing these steps to build the test, the study produced a criterion-reference test to measure the linguistic competencies for the secondary school students which consist of (40) questions measuring two linguistic competencies (syntactic and dictation competency). The study found that this test has good validity and it was found that the test has high reliability according to Livingstone coefficient to the degree of (85%). Based on these results, the study recommends that the application of the test built in the current study is appropriate to measure students’ linguistic competencies. This study also recommends that the measurement and evaluation experts should find new ways to build tests based on criterion-reference in all subjects of education.

The present investigation aims to analyze the effect of motivation on students’ causal attributions to choose or abandon chemistry when it first becomes optional in the secondary education curriculum in Spain. Attributions to the effect of the family and to the teacher and classroom methodology were found to be common predictors of the choice to all the students in the sample. However, our analyses point to a significant effect of the students’ motivation in other types of attributions. In the case of at-risk of abandonment students, specific causal attributions to the effect of friends and to the subject's relationship with mathematics were found. On the other hand, the effect of media was a significant predictor only in the case of highly-motivated students. Our study provides several suggestions for teachers, schools, and administrations to design counseling strategies to help students make the right choices.

The objective of this study is to analyze the role that peer support plays in the incidence relationships between sociometric popularity and general self-concept based on sociometer theory. A total of 676 randomly selected secondary school students from the Basque Country (49.6% boys and 50.4% girls) between 12 and 18 years of age (M = 14.32, DT = 1.36) participated voluntarily. All of them completed a sociometric questionnaire (SOCIOMET), the Family and Friends Support Questionnaire (AFA-R), and the Dimensional Self-concept Questionnaire (AUDIM-33). Several models of structural equations were tested. The results indicate that sociometric popularity is linked to self-concept through the perceived social support of peers. These results are discussed within the framework of positive psychology and its practical implications in the school context.

Like every adolescent, students with hearing impairment engaged in Risky Health Behaviour (RHB) such as alcohol consumption, cigarette consumption, drug abuse, inadequate physical activities, unhealthy dietary behaviour as well as indiscriminate sexual acts. These activities have therefore become issues of public health concern. Previous studies have focused majorly on the academic performance, emotional stability and psychological adjustment of students with hearing impairment than on their RHB and its socio-economic predisposing factors. This study, therefore, examined social (discrimination, home, health awareness, peer influence and false belief) and economic (poverty and purchasing power) factors as predictors of RHB among Secondary School Students with Hearing Impairment (SSSHI) in south-west, Nigeria.. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 980 students with hearing impairment from some secondary schools in southwest Nigeria. Five hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression. Social and economic factors had significant composite contribution to RHB (F(7,973)=22.80; R=0.37) and accounted for 17.0% of the variance of RHB. The relative contributions of the independent variables to risky health bebehaviour are: Peer influence (β=0.25), Purchasing power (β=0.23), discrimination (0.15), poverty (β=0.10) home (β=0.08), false belief (β=0.07) )and health awareness(0.02). Unfriendly home situation, negative peer influence, false beliefs, poverty and low purchasing power predicted risky health behaviour among secondary school students with hearing impairment Therefore, government should organise periodic health and sensitization programmes on health issues for students, parents and teachers.

This study investigated the impact of family climate on the academic achievement of government and private secondary school students. Three hundred (Boys =150; Girls =150) secondary school students were randomly chosen as the sample of the study from 8 schools (4 government and 4 private) of Aligarh. Family Climate Scale by Dr. Beena Shah (1990) was used to study respondent’s family climate, while their IX class examination results were used as the measure of academic achievement. The hypotheses were tested using the product moment coefficient of correlation to find out the relationship between the family climate and academic achievement, and for measuring the effect of the type of family climate (favorable and unfavorable) on the academic achievement of the students the investigator applied t-test. The results showed that the academic achievements of students are independent of the family environment and parental support provided to them. The study also revealed that private students have good academic records in comparison of government students.

There are billions of people in the world, but it is impossible to find two people identical because God doesn’t repeat His creation. It means everybody is inborn different. But, our education system is such that treats everybody in more or less same way which hampers the development of a child negatively and his or her contribution as well. Hence, researcher has conducted this study entitled “Effect of Family Variables on Multiple Intelligences of Secondary School Students of Gujarat State” to study the individual potential of children in terms of their intelligences and the effect of family related variables on their intelligences. It was found that some of the family and environment related variables affect the intelligences of learner positively and some do not have any effect as given.

This study assessed sugar consumption among private secondary school students in Dutsin-Ma Township Katsina State, Nigeria. Three hypotheses were tested in the study. Descriptive survey research design was used. The population of this study comprised 175 (junior and senior) students of the three existing private secondary schools in Dutsin-Ma. The entire student population was studied.  A self-constructed questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale was used to collect data. The instrument was validated by four health experts. Split-half method was used to determine the reliability of the questionnaire and a reliability coefficient of 0.67 was obtained. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts and percentage for rendering the demographic profile of the respondents and answering the first research question. The t-Test was used to test the stated hypotheses at level of 0.05. The study found that most of the students (58.29%) consume more artificial sugar than sugar obtained from natural sources. The study also found significant differences in sugar consumption between students in junior secondary classes and those in senior secondary in their consumption of sugar (p< 0.05). However, the study found no significant gender difference in the consumption of sugar among the students. Based on these findings, the study recommended a reduction in consumption of sugar by students particularly unwholesome foods such as biscuits and soft drinks rich in sugar.

This paper examined the causes of and the attitudes towards cheating in class as they were perceived by 800 secondary school students in Senegal. The causes of cheating as seen by our subjects fell into the following categories: students' laziness (47%), too many demands from the family (29%), teachers' attitudes (14%), a school syllabus too large or uninteresting (10%). The reasons for which pupils refrain from cheating are moral (57.5%), or the fear of being caught as well as the ineffectiveness of cheating (42.5%). The attitudes and feeling our students have towards their colleagues cribbing from them can be described as negative (52%: moral objections, fear of the unfair accusations levelled at them in case of discovery), lenient (39%: solidarity, efficiency), and ambivalent (13%). Over one-third of the pupils in our sample hold cheating at school ought to be reported; those with farming fathers being more insistent upon the fact than those with richer fathers. Over half of the pupils believe that cheating at school will lead to cheating elsewhere later in life.
