In 2011 and 2012 three commercial products Alginure® (seaweed extract), Myco-Sin® VIN (sulfuric acid clay with yeast and plant extracts) and Polyversum® (spores of Pythium oligandrum) were tested in field experiment with strawberry cv. ‘Induka’ under the conditions of organic growing system. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the preparations on yield, fruit quality and diseases control. The preparations were applied five times during flowering. We assessed total yield, marketable and unmarketable yields, average fruit weight, grey mould incidence on fruits caused by Botrytis cinerea and leaf spot severity caused by Mycosphaerella fragariae. Efficacy (%) of preparations was calculated. Preparations did not show positive effect on yields parameters. Total and marketable yields were not significantly different to untreated control in both years. Nevertheless considerable increase of yields from 2011 to 2012 was observed in strawberries treated by biofungicide Polyversum®. Preparations did not significantly reduce the incidence of grey mould. Alginure® showed the best results by efficacy 39.6 % and 57.4 %, respectively. All preparations provided very low, less than 10% efficacy to control leaf spot severity.

Two field experiments were doled out during 2014 and 2015 growing seasons to assess tomato growth and yield as affected by some biostimulants and micronutrients with or without mulching type. Certain physiological characters were also examined, plant height, the number of branches per plant chlorophyll a, nitrogen %, red fruit weight and total yield per plant as well as fruit firmness and ascorbic acid concentration in fruit was increased in tomatoes under black plastic mulch compared with bar soil. Application of either biostimulants or micronutrient used to increase all growth and yield characters as well as photosynthetic pigments, ions percentage, and fruit quality. Additive effects were shown under mulching, seaweed extract proved to be the most effective in this respect. It could be recommended that spraying tomato crop at 35 and 50 days from transplanting with 500 mg/l seaweed extract under clear or black plastic mulch in order for inducing the highest yield and improve fruit quality.

AbstractConditions of polyaniline (PANI) nanotubes preparation were analyzed. Aniline was oxidized with ammonium peroxydisulfate in 0.4 M acetic acid. There are two subsequent oxidation steps and the products were collected after each of them. At pH > 3, neutral aniline molecules are oxidized to non-conducting aniline oligomers. These produce templates for the subsequent growth of PANI nanotubes, which takes place preferably at pH 2–3. At pH < 2, granular morphology of the conducting PANI is obtained. High final acidity of the medium should be avoided in the preparation of nanotubes, e.g., by reducing the amount of sulfuric acid which is a by-product. Reduction of the peroxydisulfate-to-aniline mole ratio was tested for this purpose in the present study. Lowering of the reaction temperature from 20°C to −4°C had a positive effect on the formation of nanotubes.

In the years 2014 to 2016 the influence of apple tree wood chips and composted apple tree wood chips in which oyster mushroom grew and yielded which were supplemented into soil on strawberry field production and occurrence of grey mould at strawberry (cv. ‘Sonata’) was evaluated. Average weight and number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight, average weight and number of fruits affected by Botrytis cinerea per plant, percentage of weight and number of fruits affected by Botrytis cinerea was calculated. There were recorded differences concerning strawberry yield among the investigated variants of plots, but mainly there were not statistically significant. In 2015 and 2016 the highest average weight of yield and the highest number of fruits was reached at plants cultivated on plots with apple tree wood chips. Average weight of yield on plots with apple tree wood chips was 663.72 g and 822.41 g in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Number of fruits per plant on plots with apple tree wood chips was 67.88 pieces and 65.29 pieces in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Occurrence of grey mould caused by Botrytis cinerea on all variants of plots was similar and small differences was found out only but statistically significant difference was among the years. Grey mould was the most frequently found out in the year 2016. B. cinerea affected 48.27, 56.89 and 55.94 grams of fruits per plant from plots with composted apple tree wood chips, plots with apple tree wood chips and control plots in 2016, respectively.

An experiment was conducted to assess the performance of sweet pepper varieties as influenced by nitrogen levels from August 2014 to February 2015 at Mangalpur, Chitwan. The experiment was laid out in two factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications having sixteen treatments. Varieties and levels of nitrogen significantly affected growth, yield and qualitative parameters of fruits. Hybrid Indra and NS 632 performed better than open pollinated varieties viz. Sagar and California Wonder. Days to fifty percent flowering of NS 632 were earlier than California Wonder. Indra variety had the highest plant height (52.18 cm), number of secondary branches per plant (13.51) from 250 kg N/ha through chemical fertilizer while number of leaves per plant was higher in NS 632 variety (57.22) than Sagar variety (47.37). Indra variety showed the highest fruit weight (87.59 g) and total yield (39.45 t/ha) but NS 632 variety produced more number of fruits per plant (9.25) than California Wonder variety. This study showed that sweet pepper yield of hybrid varieties applied with 250 kg N/ha through chemical fertilizer was appropriate dose to get optimum yield under Chitwan condition.

Mulch materials of different origin and colour are available in the agricultural sector as sustainable alternatives to the use of polyethylene (PE). Mulching modifies soil temperature and consequently affects crop yields. This work assessed the thermal and productive responses of different mulch materials in two different geo-climatic conditions during a 3-year integrated field study on processing tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). Two biodegradable plastic mulches (BD1, BD2), one oxo-degradable material (OB), two types of paper (PP1, PP2) and one barley-straw cover (BS) were compared with two control treatments: black PE and manual weeding (MW). Soil temperature variables (maximum, minimum and mean temperature, soil growing degree-days and soil temperature amplitude) and production variables (marketable and total yield, mean fruit weight) were considered. Thermally, PE could be considered an atypical mulch causing higher temperatures in the soil, but it is not associated with a higher yield. Responses of PE, PP2 and MW were independent of the geo-environmental conditions, whereas OB, BD1 and BD2 had similar thermal and productive responses to each other in different environments. Tomato yield was correlated positively only with the minimum soil temperature, especially when excluding PE.

While designing and maintaining ferroconcrete beam constructions subjected to a short-term dynamic loading, it is necessary to consider the emergence of the thrust reaction; this leads to a considerable increase of durability and fracture strength. It is also necessary to consider the use of foil bearings as the power-intensity increase of the researched constructions. The aim of the experimental research is to expose the reasonability of using foil bearings in thrust constructions. The paper presents the results of the experimental research of ferroconcrete beam constructions with thrust on foil bearings during short-term dynamic loading. The influence of the thrust on the durability, deformability and fracture strength of ferroconcrete constructions during short-term dynamic loading, as well as joint use of foil bearings and limitation of support contour horizontal shift are studied. The results of the research indicate the positive effect of using foil bearings in the constructions with thrust.

Seventeen genotypes of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) were studied in a field experiment conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during April 2009 to September 2010. The objectives of the study were to measure the variability among the genotypes for yield and yield contributing characters, estimate genetic parameters, association among the characters and their contribution to yield. There was a great deal of significant variation for all the characters among the genotypes. Considering genetic parameters high genotypic co-efficient of variation (GCV) was observed for branches per vine, yield per plant and number of fruit per plant whereas low genotypic co-efficient of variation (GCV) was observed for days to first male and female flowering. In all the cases, it was found that phenotypic co-efficient of variation was greater than genotypic co-efficient of variation. Highest genotypic and phenotypic co-efficient of variation was observed in branch per vine, fruit length, fruit weight and number of fruit plant which indicated a wide variability among the genotypes and offered better scope of selection. The results obtained showed that fruit length showed low direct and positive effect on yield per plant and indirect positive effect on yield per plant via fruit diameter and average fruit weight. Similar result was found for fruit diameter. Average fruit weight and number of fruits per plant showed high direct and positive effect on yield per plant. Path analysis revealed that average fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, days to male flowering and fruit length had positive direct effect on fruit yield. Considering group distance and the agronomic performance, the inter genotypic crosses between G2& G5; G2&G14; G14&G15; G2&G15; G10&G11; G10&G13; G11&G13; G5&G15; G5&G14 might be suitable choice for future hybridization programme.Bangladesh J. A field experiment was conducted at KVK Kalyan instructional farm at Jahajpur of Purulia district of West Bengal during rabi season of 2018-19 to assess the effect of Biochar and Vermicompost as organic soil amendments on yield of brinjal under red and lateritic soils of Purulia, West Bengal. Biochar and vermicompost applied alone additionally in the farmers practice. The experiment design adopted was Randomised Block Design (RBD) having four replications with three treatments The treatments comprises of T1: Application of N:P:K  70:30:30 kg/ha (Farmers’ practice) + FYM @ 2 t/ha, T2: Farmers practice  + Vermicompost @ 5 t/ha, T3: Farmers practice  + Biochar @ 10 t/ha. The growth and yield attributing characters recorded was plant height at 30, 60, 90 and 120 DAT, number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight, yield per plant and total yield. Application of biochar and vermicompost had a significant effect on the growth and yield of Brinjal. Highest growth yield attributes and highest fruit yield (22.36 t/ha) were obtained due to the application of farmers practice + vermicompost @ 5 t/ha (T2). Application of biochar along with farmers’ practice did not show any significant results in brinjal yield as compare to vermicompost application treatment. The potential for long-term benefits of biochar remain to be explored through continued research in the red laterite soils of Purulia district of West Bengal.

The objectives of this work were to assess zucchini heterogeneity index and fruit weight at different harvest frequencies for plants grown on a protected environment; to estimate the optimum plot size; and to determine the least significant difference among treatments, varying plot size and replication number. Plants of cultivar Caserta were grown in a plastic greenhouse, using spaces of 0.80 x 1.00 among plants and lines, respectively. The following harvest frequencies were studied: fruits harvested daily, (1) at 10:00, (2) at 10:00 and 18:00, (3) at 8:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00 h and; (4) fruits harvested every other day, at 18:00 h. Twenty-seven harvests were carried out, collecting fruits larger than 0.15 m. Plots were planned with 1, 2, 3, and 6 plants per row. Heterogeneity index was estimated according to Smith's method and, the optimum plot size, according to modified maximum curvature method. Fruit yield per plant gradually increased reaching a maximum at the 15th harvest. Total yield was of 3214, 3124, 3928 and 3248 g plant¹, respectively, at the harvest frequencies 1, 2, 3 and 4, with no significant differences among them. The heterogeneity index in the plastic greenhouse was nearly zero. The use of smaller plots combined with a larger number of replications increased the experimental accuracy. Although optimum plot size to assess total fruit yield varied between one and seven plants, depending on the harvest frequency, plots with three plants per row plots, with six replications, were the most appropriate design, allowing detecting a least significant difference among treatments equal to 76% of the mean.

Introduction of a transit megaproject like Metro railway in any city is seen as the effective booster for real estate sector for that city. Many cities worldwide and in India also has witnessed a considerable increase in rates of properties located along metro lines, also the areas situated around metro stations within a 500 m buffer zone has both positive and negative impacts on their property values. It is not necessary that the properties will show only positive effect, sometimes it may happen that due to noise and increased presence of commuters caused by the metro railway the area in the immediate vicinity of metro railway may show negative impact i.e. rates may decrease in that area. Present project firstly focuses on finding out the effect of Mumbai metro line on surrounding area using GIS and then comparing those results for obtaining corresponding values for proposed Pune metro. Initially focus will be on Mumbai metro and outcome of the same will be evaluated for proposed Pune metro. The data required for project has been collected from various government agencies like MMRDA, PCNTDA and DRS. The paper concludes with the brief explanation of alternate method of carrying out the same study.
