While designing and maintaining ferroconcrete beam constructions subjected to a short-term dynamic loading, it is necessary to consider the emergence of the thrust reaction; this leads to a considerable increase of durability and fracture strength. It is also necessary to consider the use of foil bearings as the power-intensity increase of the researched constructions. The aim of the experimental research is to expose the reasonability of using foil bearings in thrust constructions. The paper presents the results of the experimental research of ferroconcrete beam constructions with thrust on foil bearings during short-term dynamic loading. The influence of the thrust on the durability, deformability and fracture strength of ferroconcrete constructions during short-term dynamic loading, as well as joint use of foil bearings and limitation of support contour horizontal shift are studied. The results of the research indicate the positive effect of using foil bearings in the constructions with thrust.

The formation of non-intersecting cracks in stress-strained ferroconcrete elements leads to separation of concrete strips between the cracks. The results of the experimental research indicate a significant decrease of the durability and deformability of the stress-strained concrete strips between cracks both under static and short-term dynamic loading. At the same time physico-mechanical properties depend on the straining deformations and rebars’ inclination angle towards the cracks. The existing theoretical and experimental results evaluate only the durability of the concrete strips between the cracks. The current paper presents the results of experimental and theoretical studies on the dynamic deformability of the stress-strained discs between the cracks. The statistic analysis of the experimental data is done; on the basis of the analysis we suggest the dependencies, characterizing the deformability of the concrete strips during the short-term dynamic load depending on the level of the straining deformations and rebars’ inclination angle towards the cracks.

The short-term effects of temperature on deammonification sludge were evaluated in a laboratory-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR). Mathematical modeling was used for further evaluations of different intermittent aeration strategies for achieving high and stable deammonification performance at decreasing temperatures. As for the biomass cultivated at high temperatures (e.g., 30 °C), a higher temperature dependency (the adjusted Arrhenius coefficient θ for 11–17 °C = 1.71 vs. θ for 17–30 °C = 1.12) on the specific anammox growth rates was found at lower temperatures (11–17 °C) in comparison with higher temperatures (17–30 °C). Further evaluations of recovering the nitrogen removal efficiency at decreasing temperatures with the mathematical model by modifying the intermittent aeration strategies (aeration frequency (F) and the ratio (R) between non-aerated (non-aer) phase and aerated (aer) phase durations) indicated that intermittent aeration with a prolonged non-aerated phase (e.g., R ≥ 4 regardless of F value) would help to maintain high and stable deammonification performance (~80%) at decreasing temperatures (14–22 °C). Extending the non-aerated phases (increasing R) and reducing the frequency (F) of off/on phase changes have a positive effect on increasing energy savings, leading to increasing interest in this method.

AbstractThe 16 April 2016 earthquake in Ecuador exposed the significant weaknesses concerning the methodological designs to compute—from an economic standpoint—the consequences of a natural hazard-related disaster for productive exchanges and the accumulation of capital in Ecuador. This study addressed one of these challenges with an innovative ex ante model to measure the partial and net short-term effects of a natural hazard-related catastrophe from an interregional perspective, with the 16 April 2016 earthquake serving as a case study. In general, the specified and estimated model follows the approach of the extended Miyazawa model, which endogenizes consumption demand in a standard input–output model with the subnational interrelations and resulting multipliers. Due to the country’s limitations in its regional account records the input–output matrices for each province of Ecuador had to be estimated, which then allowed transactions carried out between any two sectors within or outside a given province to be identified by means of the RAS method. The estimations provide evidence that the net short-term impact on the national accounts was not significant, and under some of the simulated scenarios, based on the official information with respect to earthquake management, the impact may even have had a positive effect on the growth of the national product during 2016.

This study aims to explain the phenomenon of the most active companies traded shares in Indonesian stock exchange. This research is motivated to analyze the response of investors to take a decision after presenting the company's financial statements. This study uses panel data consisting of 20 companies selected by purposive sampling method, using a regression model and data processing via SPSS 24. The results of this study found that the variable leverage and capital expenditure variables significantly influence the response of investors to execute the company's stock, thereby affecting the stock return. The level of leverage and significant positive effect on the response of investors, particularly due to the use of debt to investment would increase earnings per share or at a certain amount of equity can boost earnings per share acquisition. Capital expenditure and significant negative effect on the response of investors for investor tend to speculate on short-term period, which means that companies that invest in the early stages will have difficulties liquidity and rate of return will decline, so investors will shift their investment.

Abstract Numerous research works indicate that staying in a hyperbaric environment is a stressor. We have undertaken studies using an animal model to determine the effect of hyperbaria on adrenocortical secretion and the level of adrenal ascorbic acid (a.a.a.). The research was conducted on 70 male hooded rats, which were divided into groups and subjected to hyperbaric air and oxygen at an overpressure of 1 and 3 atn, with some of the animals being additionally burdened with physical effort (swimming). It was found that short-term exposures (30 minutes) of rats to hyperbaric conditions caused a decrease in the content of a.a.a. With a prolonged (3-hour) exposure to 3 atm air the a.a.a. content returns to a normal level. A reduction in the a.a.a. content indicates the presence of stress in hyperbaric conditions in the rat, however, it does not allow to determine its intensity with the method used in the study.

The purpose of innovation is to consume fewer natural resources in order to create sustainable performance; therefore, innovation can ease the pressure of the ecological load and promote the sustainable development of the economy. Taking the 269 enterprises listed on the main board of the electronic information industry from 2010 to 2019 as samples, using the threshold panel data model, the nonlinear relationship between the knowledge-based network structure hole and the short-term and long-term innovation performance of the enterprises were studied, and the threshold effect of R&D investment intensity was discussed. When the R&D investment intensity is from 1.96% to 15.96%, the knowledge-based network structure hole has a significant positive impact on short-term innovation performance. When the R&D investment intensity is from 5.72% to 10.64%, the knowledge-based network structure hole has a significant positive effect on long-term innovation performance. Lower R&D investment intensity can make the knowledge-based network structure hole promote the increase of short term innovation performance, but to make the knowledge-based network structure hole have a positive impact on long term innovation performance, the R&D investment intensity should be increased by more than 5.72%. When R&D investment intensity is not higher than 15.96%, the knowledge-based network structure hole has a significant positive impact on short term innovation performance, but to make the knowledge-based network structure hole maintain the positive effect on long term innovation performance, R&D investment intensity should not exceed 10.64%. Therefore, enterprises should be guided to optimize the knowledge-based network structure according to the R&D investment intensity in order to improve the short term and long-term innovation performance of an enterprise. These research results can help enterprises to save resources and promote the sustainable development of the economy.
