ABSTRACT Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. actinidiae is the causal agent of summer canker in kiwifruit plants in South Korea. We report here the draft genome sequences of two P. carotovorum subsp. actinidiae strains, ICMP 19971 and ICMP 19972, which were originally isolated from Actinidia chinensis with symptoms of summer canker. These genome sequences will aid in the identification of genetic traits associated with their unusual capacity to cause canker and help understanding of the threat these exotic enterobacteria pose to the New Zealand kiwifruit industry.

ABSTRACT Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus sequence type 72 (ST72) is prevalent in South Korea and has shown resistance to multiple antimicrobials. ST72 isolates display different levels of resistance to the antistaphylococcal lysostaphin. Draft genome sequencing of ST72 human isolates exhibiting lysostaphin resistance or susceptibility was performed to better understand the mechanism of lysostaphin resistance using subtractive genomics.

ABSTRACT Draft genomes of seven extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli strains recovered from New Zealand waterways are described. The mean genome size was 5.1 Mb, with 4,724 coding sequences. All genomes contained the ESBL gene blaCTX-M, and one carried a plasmid-mediated AmpC gene, blaCMY-2. A multidrug-resistant genotype was detected in three isolates.

The draft genome sequences for eight isolates of Campylobacter helveticus isolated from companion animals are described and compared with that of the type strain. On average, the genomes are 1,825,025 bp long and have a GC content of 34.4% and 1,885 coding DNA sequences (CDSs). CRISPRs were detected in only one isolate and phages in none.

Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum ATCC 39048 was originally isolated in the 1980s and studied because it produced the β-lactam antibiotic 1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid.

Coniothyrium glycines, the causal agent of red leaf blotch in soybeans, is considered a high-consequence biological agent. With limited genomic information known, there are no molecular genotyping or detection methods available. We report the draft genome sequences of three C. glycines isolates, greatly enhancing our knowledge of this species.

Xanthomonas fragariae is the causal agent of angular leaf spot of strawberry. Short-read sequences were generated for two X. fragariae strains with different virulence phenotypes on the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform. The genome sequences will contribute to a better understanding of pathogen evolution and the genes contributing to virulence in X. fragariae .

ABSTRACT Escherichia coli bacteria commonly colonize the gastrointestinal tracts of farmed ruminants. Cattle are a well-recognized reservoir of zoonotic E. coli; we report here, however, the draft genome sequences of three diarrheagenic E. coli strains isolated from farmed red deer (Cervus elaphus) in the Manawatu region of New Zealand.
