It is shown that the use of the divergence measure for expressing the information content of the results of a quantitative analysis is justified only then if we need not to expect the rise of a systematic, i.e., statistically significant mean error. However, unless we can exclude the rise of a systematic error we have to adopt the information measure I(r, p, p0) proposed earlier; then of course every even statistically insignificant mean error has effect upon the information content. It is studied the relationship of this measure to another information measure used in a specific case for expressing the information content of biased results of a quantitative analysis.

Some properties of the divergence measure of the information content of quantitative analysis results are introduced and it is shown how this measure describes the effect of the difference of a result obtained by the analysis from a preliminary one or from an anticipated value. In the same time the measure is compared to the decrease of uncertainty as expressed in terms of Shannon's entropy.

Abstract The relationship of F.M Dostoevsky with Jews attracted the attention of numerous scholars throughout the years, many of whom attempted to grapple with the views of the great writer and their origin. In this article we will attempt to show this relationship by analyzing six of Dostoevsky’s greatest novels, written through the entirety of his career. We are analyzing these novels using Distant Reading in conjunction with Close Reading, tools that are commonly used in the field of digital humanities, which enabled us to show visually the extent of F.M. Dostoevsky’s engagement with this topic. The study poses two research questions: 1. To what extent did the writer use the more denigrating term “Zhid”? 2. Can we see a correlation between the writer’s portrayal of Jews with the definition of Anti-Semitism as it was known during his era? The obtained results show that there is clearly a correlation between the definition of anti-Semitism as it was understood at the time of Dostoevsky and the “Jew” as depicted in his novels, as the financial motif is paramount in the depiction of Jews as this is the central topic in 49% of the negative sentences in which the word “Jew” appears, with 59% of these sentences classified as stereotypes. The negative financial stereotype constitutes 32% of the entire corpus. In addition, we found the term “Zhid” is commonly used by the writer, a variation of which constitutes 75% of the total terms used to depict Jews.

AbstractIn this article we explore the relationship between semiotic analysis of images and quantitative analysis of vast image corpora, in particular the work produced by Lev Manovich and the Cultural Analytics Lab, called “Media Visualization.” Media Visualization has been chosen as corpus because of its metavisual operation (images are visualized and analyzed by images) and its innovating way of conceiving analysis: by visual instruments. In this paper semiotics is used as an approach to Media Visualization and taken as an object of study as well, especially visual semiotics. In this sense, a comparison between visual semiotics (close reading of small corpora) and quantitative analyses of images (distant reading of vast collections) are conducted from a semiotic point of view. Post-Greimassian semiotics guides this study with respect to the issue of the image-within-an-image and metavisual visualization; Peircean semiotics is employed to explain and develop the notion of diagram.

Low-cycle fatigue (LCF) fracture of the spray formed GH738 alloy was investigated under total strain controlled mode at 650°C. Basic theory for evaluating fatigue lives by fatigue striations has been introduced. The crack length a and the crack propagation rate da/dN were measured and the curve of da/dN in crack propagation zone was obtained with Paris formula and tabulation trapezoidal formula, respectively. The size and symmetry of rapid fracture zone of fatigue were also studied. The results showed that the relationship of a and N was linear with tabulation trapezoidal formula, and the da/dN and a was conic with Paris formula. At last, quantitative analysis of fatigue fracture was also discussed.

This study aims to determine the effect of attendance assessments on the performance of employees and administrators at KPRI Betik Gawi Kota Bandar Lampung. This study uses a qualitative analysis approach (used to find out how the relationship of the influence of motivation on employee productivity of the Republic of Indonesia Employee Cooperative) and quantitative analysis (used to determine how much influence the absenteeism assessment on employee performance). Samples in this study used non-probability sampling techniques. Based on the results of the analysis it was concluded that there was a positive influence between the analysis of the effectiveness of attendance assessments on employee performance at KPRI Betik Gawi Kota  Bandar Lampung.

In this research paper, we have tried to find out the relationship between the growth rate of garment industry and the macroeconomic variables. And for this we have conducted three types of analysis. First one is quantitative analysis; a second one is qualitative analysis, and the last one is a beta concept. Quantitative analysis has covered graphical presentation and multiple regression analysis. The graphical presentation just provides an overall idea about the relationship of variables, but it is an abstract concept. In case of regression analysis, we have used one dependent variable that is the growth rate of garment industry and seven independent variables those are growth rate of real GDP, the unemployment rate, inflation rate, interest rate, level of stock market, exchange rate. And stata-10 software has been used to run the regression model. After running the programmed it is seen that there have some econometric problems. By using the logarithm, we have solved those problems. A multiple regression analysis has been made to know the extent to which these variables affect the garment export growth rate. From that analysis, it has been found that about 70% variations in the growth rate of garments export can be defined by these variables. Then an equation for predicting future garments export has been constructed. Qualitative analysis has encompassed economic and political issues. After this, for knowing the individual effect of the variables, a beta concept has been employed and from that analysis it has been found that no variable affect garments export to a large extent. At the end of the analysis it can be said that, individual effect of the macroeconomic variables on the growth rate of garments export is not much but when they are combined, they can influence the garments export growth rate. As they are also related with each other which means change in one macroeconomic variable may change all the other variables. Therefore, a combined effect always remains. So, we can say that macroeconomic variables influence the garment industry of our country but not to a great extent. JEL Classification Code: E60, M10, L67, O14

The article studies the degree of description nominality in fiction based on the usage of the two most frequent attributes: adjectival and nominal ones. The former are adnominals, expressed by adjectives or adjectival phrases (adjectives with dependent words), the latter are of-N constructions (in English texts) and genitive case of nouns (in Russian texts). The data-base includes extracts from highly popular English and Russian women authors: R. Galbraith, S. Kinsella, A. Marinina and T. Ustinova. The research is based on a quantitative analysis of data with the use of a number of statistical measures. The Busemann coefficient is used to study the relationship of adjectival and nominal attributes and the power function is necessary for fitting the distribution of distances of attributes counted within separate sentences. The analysis has demonstrated that the frequency of adjectival attributes as expected exceeds that of nominal attributes. However, the relationship of these types of attributes is highly different for the abovementioned authors. The results have proved that there is no difference in the proportion of these two attribute types between English and Russian texts whereas this feature distinguishes the styles of R.Galbraith and A. Marinina on the one hand, and S. Kinsella and T. Ustinova on the other hand. The research of the distance dynamics of the two given attributes from the beginning to the end of the works has shown big differences in the style of the authors, too. In a number of cases the tendency for compensation is observed while a drop in the frequency of one attribute type correlates with the rise in frequency of the other one.

The information content of results of analyses, subject to a systematic error, is expressed with the use of the divergence measure. It is shown how this error lowers the information content of the results. The significance of methods enabling to eliminate the systematic error or to diminish it (calibration, blank experiment, etc.), mostly at the expense of the accuracy of the results, is discussed.
