Abstract Background In China, post-abortion care (PAC) services mainly focus on married couples, such that adolescents and unmarried young womenhave limited access to those services for contraception counseling. The provision of youth-friendly PAC services in public hospitals is a new concept in China. This study examined the magnitude of PAC services utilization as well as factors influencing it’s uptake among adolescents and young women in Guangzhou, China. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed from 1st March 2020 to 30th September 2020 using anonymous self-administered questionnaire among 688 women aged 15–24 years in Tianhe district, Guangzhou. The Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine factors that were significantly associated with the uptake of PAC services. Results The magnitude of PAC services utilization was 35.9% among adolescents and young women in Guangzhou, China. Students were 69.0% significantly less likely to use PAC services compared to women who had no job. Immigrants were 59.0% significantly less likely to use PAC services than their native counterparts. Women who had a feeling of stigma were 70.0% significantly less likely to use PAC services compared to those who did not feel stigmatized. Conclusions The study highlights the need to strengthen youth-friendly PAC services provision, and emphasizes the importance of education about both family planning and abortion services among disadvantaged sub-groups of women in the study setting.

Abstract Background: Abortion is a termination of pregnancy before the fetus has become viable, i.e., capable of independent existence once delivered by the mother. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and determinants associated with second trimester termination of pregnancy among the women in the reproductive age. Methods: Cross sectional study, design was conducted from September 1-30, 2020. Eight hundreds thirty-five sample of women with induced abortion complication were used. The data were entered into statistical package and service solutions (SPSS) version 23.0 for cleaning and data analysis. Chi-square test of association was used to test the association between the response variable. Binary logistic regression was employed for variables one by one in bivariate logistic regression to determine the significant association between response variables and predictors at p-value 0.15. A 95% confidence interval (CI) and level of significance less than 0.05 were used to determine statistical significance. Results: The prevalence of second trimester termination of pregnancy in the reproductive Age (15-49 years) was found to be 18.2%. As a result multivariable logistic regression model, women with age category 20-24 years [Adjusted odds ratio(AOR)=2.055, 95% CI=1.102-3.831], age category 30-34 years [AOR=3.084, 95%CI=1.348-7.056] , age category greater than or equal to 35 had adjusted odds ratio(AOR=3.021, 95% CI=1.199-7.610), having safe abortion care (AOR=0.294, 95%CI=0.132-0.656), taking treatment in health care/hospital (AOR=2.385, 95% CI=1.057-5.382) and repeatedly acceptor of post-abortion contraception (AOR=0.533, 95%CI=0.291-0.979) were potential determinants associated with women’s in the reproductive age with second trimester termination of pregnancy. Conclusions: Second trimester termination of pregnancy is strongly affected by age of mother, abortion care, place of managed abortion and post-abortion contraception. Strategies on Antenatal care and task-oriented services should be given to community level about the second trimester medical termination of pregnancy to decrease further complications and maternal mortality.

The objective of this study was to assess the association between tobacco/nicotine use and type and intensity of sport. Data were drawn from the second follow-up of the Cohort Study on Substance Use Risk Factors. Young Swiss men completed a questionnaire about tobacco/nicotine use (cigarette, vaping, snus, snuff), type and intensity of sport and other demographic and medical variables. Among the 5414 included participants (mean age 25.5), 3434 (63.4%) reported regularly practicing a sport. They had a lower rate of cigarette smoking (32.3%) compared with participants not practicing a sport (44.6%) but a higher rate of snus use (15.0% vs. 10.0%). In adjusted models, individual-sport participants were less likely to use snus and snuff (OR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.51–0.77 and OR = 0.73, 95% CI = 0.61–0.88), compared with team-sport participants. The association was inversed for vaping users (OR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.03–2.30). Furthermore, participants who practiced high-intensity sports had a lower likelihood to smoke cigarettes (OR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.52–0.78) compared with low-intensity sports. Our findings suggest that type and intensity of sport are associated with tobacco/nicotine use. Youth who practice an individual sport are less likely to use snus or snuff and more likely to vape compared with a team sport. This could help better target smoking prevention in young people

IntroductionThe objective of this study was to compare ever-in life contraception use, use of contraception at current conception, and planned use of contraception after an induced abortion, among three groups of women: migrants, second-generation migrants and non-migrant women, and to compare the types of contraception methods used and intended for future use among the three groups of women.MethodsThe cross-sectional study administered a questionnaire face-to-face to women aged 18 years and older who were seeking abortion care at one of six abortion clinics in Stockholm County from January to April 2015.ResultsThe analysis included 637 women. Migrants and second-generation migrants were less likely to have used contraception historically, at the time of the current conception, and to plan to use contraception after their induced abortion compared with non-migrant women. Historically, non-migrants had used pills (89%) and withdrawal (24%) while migrants had used the copper intrauterine device (24%) to a higher extent compared to the other two groups of women. Both the migrants (65%) and second-generation migrants (61%) were more likely than the non-migrants (48%) to be planning to use long-acting reversible contraception.ConclusionsLower proportions of contraception use were found in migrants and second-generation migrants than in non-migrants. In addition, there were significant differences in the types of contraception methods used historically and intended for future use.

Background: Construction sector is a thriving industry which comprises most of the unorganized workers and providing widespread opportunities for employment of most of the poorest and marginalized sections of society in India. The workers are more susceptible to various occupational hazards due to working conditions in dusty environment. This study is proposed to identify the morbidity pattern, availability and usage of safety measures, health care seeking behaviour and health care facilities at the quarry site. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among the stone quarry workers of Maduranthakam area in Kancheepuram district from February 2018 to May 2018. The sample size was calculated as 94 and five quarries were selected randomly. The study tool was interview based semi structured questionnaire and clinical examination. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics like Chi square test, Fischer’s exact test was done to determine significant association (p<0.05).Results: The common morbidities among the participants were abdominal conditions (54%), injuries (34%) and musculoskeletal disorders (27%). One in five individuals had respiratory problems and those with breathing difficulty had decreased peak expiratory flow rate. Usage of personal protective equipments is low and about 63.8% of them were using government health care facilities. Conclusions: Increasing demand for stone and aggregates has led to extensive stone quarrying operations. Awareness and enforcement of personal protective equipment, vaccination against diseases like tetanus, periodic health check- ups should be enforced for people working in quarries.

Candida spp., are saprophytic yeasts capable of creating a favorable environment for bacterial infection, amplifying or inhibiting their activity. On the other hand, bacteria produce molecules that reduce the proliferation of Candida spp or promote their adherence to surfaces. The resurgence of typhoid and paratyphoid fevers in endemic individuals and the relative effectiveness of contemporary conventional therapies arouse curiosity to explore other factors that may influence, the re-emergence of infection in patients. We carried out a cross-sectional study of 2500 patients in four hospitals in the city of Douala, Cameroon, from January to December 2019, to determine the influence of Candida spp., on the onset of these infections in patients. Widal and Felix test was used to form the sample, culture on specific media and microscopy confirmed the identity of Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi and Candida spp. Biochemical tests on a classic tube gallery revealed the biochemical characteristics of bacteria. The results showed that infection with S. typhi is predominant, 32.76 % versus 18.4 % of S. paratyphi infection. Infection with Candida spp., would increase 4-5 times the frequency of infection with S. typhi and S. paratyphi, respectively from 3.08 % to 26.03 %, and from 7.08 % to 32.76 %. The presence of Candida spp increases the risk of reoccurrence of S. typhi and S. paratyphi in patients.
