In this paper, alpha decay half-lives of spherical nuclei in the range [Formula: see text] are studied by considering the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM) and calculating the alpha particle preformation factor. Comparisons are made to existing data in the literature. The half-lives are compared to the experimental values and also with the existing theoretical models, the analytical formula of Royer (R) and also within the modified analytical formula of Royer (MR) and New Akrawy–Poenaru Formula (AKRE) by Akrawy and Poenaru and the semi-empirical model based on fission theory (SemFIS) of Poenaru et al., the Universal Decay Law (UDL) of Qi et al., the Scaling Law of Brown (SLB), the Scaling Law of Horoi et al. (SLH). Compared with the experimental alpha half-lives, it can be found that the half-lives obtained using our formalism is in good agreement with the experimental data.

The alpha decay half-lives of even–even and even–odd Platinum (Pt) nuclei have been studied within the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM). The present study is restricted to even–even nuclei with [Formula: see text]–198. The results are compared with other calculations such as the Semi-empirical formula (SemFIS) from Poenaru et al. based on fission theory of alpha decay, the Viola–Seaborg (VS), Royer (R) and Brown formulae. Also, the alpha decay half-lives have been calculated using the Scaling law of Brown (SLB), the Universal Decay Law (UDL) of Qi et al., the Scaling Law of Horoi et al. (SLH), and Akrawy–Dorin formula (ADF) of Akrawy and Poenaru, which are the Royer modified formula for alpha decay half-live by adding asymmetry term.

The cluster decay process in 270–318118 superheavy nuclei has been studied extensively within the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM), thereby investigating the probable cluster decays from the various isotopes of Z = 118. On comparing the predicted decay half-lives with the values evaluated using the Universal formula for cluster decay (UNIV) of Poenaru et al., the Universal Decay Law (UDL) of Qi et al., and the Scaling Law of Horoi et al., it was seen that, our values matches well with these theoretical values. A comparison of the predicted alpha decay half-life of the experimentally synthesized superheavy isotope 294118 with its corresponding experimental value shows that, our theoretical value is in good agreement with the experimental value. The plots for log 10(T1/2) against the neutron number of the daughter in the corresponding decay reveals the behavior of the cluster half-lives with the neutron number of the daughter nuclei and for most of the decays, the half-life was found to be the minimum for the decay leading to a daughter with N = 184. Most of the predicted half-lives are well within the present experimental upper limit (1030 s) and lower limit (10-6 s) for measurements and hence these predictions may be of great use for further experimental investigation on cluster decay in the superheavy region.

The alpha particle preformation and the penetration probability by the Yukawa proximity potential in the even–even nuclei from 178 Pb to 238 U are studied. Using the experimental values of the alpha decay half-lives and the decay energies, we extract the preformation factors and the penetration probabilities. We also calculate the assault frequencies and the decay constants. The obtained results are motivating.

AbstractDFT calculations of vibrational spectra of chlorophosphates using wide range of basis sets and hybrid functionals were performed. Good agreement between calculated and experimental vibrational spectra was reached by the combination of non-empirical functional PBE0 with both middle and large basis sets. The frequencies of the stretching vibrations of the phosphate group calculated using semi-empirical functional B3LYP for all basis sets deviate significantly from the experimental values. The number of polarization functions on heavy atoms was shown to be a key factor for the calculation of vibrational frequencies of organophosphates. The importance of consideration of all the stable rotamers for a complete assignment of fundamental modes was shown.

The alpha-decay half-lives of the 24 isotopes of Eu (Z = 63) nuclei in the region 130≤A≤153, have been studied systematically within the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM). We have modified the assault frequency and re-determined the half-lives and they show a better agreement with the experimental value. We have also done calculations on the half-lives within the recently proposed Coulomb and proximity potential model for deformed nuclei (CPPMDN). The computed half-lives are compared with the experimental data and they are in good agreement. Using our model, we could also demonstrate the influence of the neutron shell closure at N = 82, in both parent and daughter nuclei, on the alpha-decay half-lives.

Abstract In the present work, considering the preformation probability of the emitted two protons in the parent nucleus, we extend the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM) to systematically study two-proton (2p) radioactivity half-lives of the nuclei close to proton drip line, while the proximity potential is chosen as Prox.81 proposed by Blocki et al. in 1981. Furthermore, we apply this model to predict the half-lives of possible 2p radioactive candidates whose 2p radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in the evaluated nuclear properties table NUBASE2016. The predicted results are in good agreement with those from other theoretical models and empirical formulas, namely the effective liquid drop model (ELDM), generalized liquid drop model (GLDM), Gamow-like model, Sreeja formula and Liu formula.

Based on a theoretical model and an experimental methodology for defining the rolling resistance moments in a modified thrust ball bearing having only 3 balls, the authors experimentally investigated the influence of the Hertzian contact pressure on rolling resistance moments between a ball and a race. The experiments were realized with balls having diameters between 1.588 mm and 4.762 mm with maximum Hertzian pressure between 0.2GPa and 1GPa, operating for rotational speed between 60rpm to 210 rpm. The experiments evidenced that the measured values of the rolling resistance moments have higher values that the theoretical hysteresis and curvature rolling resistance moments for low contact pressure. By increasing of the contact pressure to 1GPa the experimental values for rolling resistance moments are in good agreement with the theoretical models.

A systematic study on the alpha decay half-lives of various isotopes of superheavy element (SHE) [Formula: see text] within the range [Formula: see text] is presented for the first time using Coulomb and proximity potential model for deformed nuclei (CPPMDN). The calculated [Formula: see text] decay half-lives of the isotopes within our formalism match well with the values computed using Viola–Seaborg systematic, Universal curve of Poenaru et al., and the analytical formula of Royer. In our study by comparing the [Formula: see text] decay half-lives with the spontaneous fission half-lives, we have predicted [Formula: see text] chain from [Formula: see text]121, [Formula: see text] chain from [Formula: see text]121 and [Formula: see text] chain from [Formula: see text]121. Clearly our study shows that the isotopes of SHE [Formula: see text] within the mass range [Formula: see text] will survive fission and can be synthesized and detected in the laboratory via alpha decay. We hope that our predictions will provide a new guide to future experiments.

Using a laser monitoring observation technique, the solubility of fructose diphosphate sodium in binary solvent of ethanol + water mixtures was experimentally measured in the temperature ranging from 298.15 K to 333.15 K at atmospheric pressure. The solubility of fructose diphosphate sodium increased with an increase of temperature and quality percentage of water. Experimental solubility data were correlated with semi-empirical models; and the calculated solubilities of fructose diphosphate sodium show good agreement with the experimental values.

This paper is to investigate both theoretically and experimentally the wave energy dissipation and air-pressure variation of a new type of breakwater having a pressurized air-chamber and two buoyancy tanks. The theoretical models are developed in this paper and they are shown to be in good agreement with experimental values. The new type of breakwater proposed in this paper is pointed out to attenuate the transmitted wave much better than the rectangular-shaped and concave-shaped breakwaters without the air-chamber.
