This article describes the development of the current part-time distance education Post graduate and Masters in Rehabilitation Counselling course offered by the School of Community Health, University of Sydney Cumberland Campus, into an online/multimedia instructional medium.. A literature review explored factors involved in the educational technology design process utilising an ACTIONS framework proposed by Bates (1995). The findings confirm that it is appropriate to utilise selected mediums to improve access and maintain teaching standards. However, the review highlights the need to offer a combination of presentation mediums, adequate technical support, and staff development/training. Formative evaluation must be part of the design process, supported by a responsive organisational infrastructure. Evaluation of the first unit of study to be offered online in 2000, Counselling, will form the basis for a follow-up article.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the concern developments of first-time distance education instructors using the concerns-based adoption model (CBAM). This study used stages of concern (SoC), a component of CBAM, as its theoretical framework. A descriptive case study was implemented, which focused on the adaptation processes of nine instructors lecturing for the first time via distance education. The instructors attended a two-day training, which was designed based on their initial concerns. Then instructors implemented their courses for four weeks via distance education. While the informational and personal stages (self-concerns) decreased compared to the initial findings, the consequence stage increased in intensity. However, self-concerns remained predominant in the process despite the reduction in self-concerns and increase in the consequence stage. Based on the findings, the implications for distance education and recommendations for addressing the instructors’ concerns are discussed. Recommendations for alleviating the concerns of first-time distance education instructors include: the provision of ongoing concern-based interventions that incorporate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge; providing working examples related to distance education from which instructors can learn vicariously; and encouraging collaboration among instructors.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 pandemic brought changes in various aspects of life, including educational field. The present study reveals some of the challenges related to real-time distance learning for university students majoring in tourism in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The study includes Bulgarian and international students in full-time and part-time bachelor's and master's tourism programs, in which real-time distance education was introduced for the first time. The current study could be a starting point for improving the organization and quality of education of Tourism students, as well as for faster overcoming of related difficulties in communication with students.

Politecnico di Torino has been actively experimenting distance education scenarios since 1992, through the development of innovative methodologies and tools. The real challenge today, however, is to move from small settings to a large-scale system able to suit the needs of a broad number of users belonging to different categories, from traditional students to part-time or full-time workers, from students living far from Torino to people with participation restriction due to disability. The emphasis then, is not only on the innovation of methodologies and technologies, but on their effective and economically sustainable use in a complex and multi-faceted setting. This chapter describes the services introduced in this direction and gives a preliminary evaluation after the first year of delivery.

A new world of distance education demands new thinking. Key components to completing the distance educational system requires that institutions determine how the process is designed, delivered, integrated, and supported. Unfortunately, educational administrators tend to view distance education merely as a process of taking existing readings, exercises, handouts, and posting them to the Web. While this approach may seem cost effective, such an approach is not educationally effective. Although the meaningful transition to e-education has just begun, determining measures of effectiveness and efficiency requires innovations in social and political thought beyond the advances in technology. The educational process requires feedback from the professor, from the student, and from the wider community, especially businesses who hire the graduates. As e-learning and higher education reach new heights, they are changing the functions of the university. E-learning changes all the ground rules, including time, distance, and pedagogy. We now have new ways to reach and interact with students, present rich content in courses, and deliver the technologies of the smart classroom to students, wherever they are in the world.

The article analyzes personal experience in distance learning using the Microsoft Teams application. The author defines distance education as a form of interaction between a teacher and a student and a student’s independent work using information technology in accordance with the educational program. The article presents the results of the author’s sociological study, conducted with the help of qualitative and quantitative methods of information collection. 30 free unstructured interviews and a small questionnaire survey were conducted. There were 250 respondents. The results of the survey lead to the conclusion that as a forced measure, most participants in the educational process took this type of training positively. In the future, distance education can be recommended for use in full-time and part-time educational formats.

As of mid-March 2020, distance education has begun in Turkey. This situation has continued until the end of the 2019-2020 academic years. During this period, also instrument education was continued in distance at part-time conservatories affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. In this process, which is new for instrument education, teacher-student-parent communication has also become mandatory. Within the scope of this study, the year-end grades of the students of Istanbul Maltepe University Part -Time Conservatory Department of Piano for 2019 and 2020 were compared. In the instrument education that starts at a young age, the support and the attention of the parents as well as the teacher's effort is of significant importance to the students. A multiple-choice questionnaire has been sent to all parents who consisted of 75 students, and 50 parents among them have answered. As a result of the questionnaire, it has been seen that merely face-to-face education and the combination of face-to-face and distance education were equally marked. In the light of the findings, perspective of the parents towards distance piano education, which is new in Turkey, has been evaluated in the scope of mentioned sample and suggestions has been made for the next researches.
