Biomimetic superhydrophobic surface was fabricated by replicating topography of the fresh fish skin surface ofNavodon septentrionaliswith polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomer. A two-step replicating method was developed to make the surface structure of the fresh fish skin be replicated with high fidelity. After duplication, it was found that the static contact angle of the replica was as large as 173°. Theoretic analysis based on Young's and Cassie-Baxter (C-B) model was performed to explain the relationship between structure and hydrophobicity.

The article studies different shell constructions of mid-water trawls and their properties. The problem settled is suggested to be solved taking into account real geometric interrelations between spacious and surface properties of cone shells. The author suggests to accept a so-called geometric quality coefficient as a criterion of the properties of a conical shell, which represents the ratio of the shell to the area of its side surface and by analogy to use it to the shell of the trawl. The relationship between the trawl dimensions and geometric quality coefficient have been studied. Comparing these figures with the actual characteristics of trawls showed good convergence. According to the results of theoretic analysis and parameters calculation, trawl large-size shells will always have advantages in geometric characteristics over mid-size and, especially, small-size shells. The results of the analysis can be used for approximate calculations of the parameters of the trawl and justification of ways to improve the performance of existing mid-water trawls.

Resistance reduction in ship becomes an important issue to be investigated. Energy consumption and its efficiency are related toward drag reduction. Drag reduction in fluid flow can be obtained by providing polymer additives, coating, surfactants, fiber and special roughness on the surface hull. Fish skin surface coated with biopolymers viscous fluid (slime) is one method in frictional resistance reduction. The aim of this is to understanding the effect of drag reduction using eel slime biopolymer in unsymmetrical trimaran ship model. The Investigation was conducted using towing tank test with variation of velocity. The dimension of trimaran model are L = 2 m, B = 0.20 m and T = 0.065 m. The ship model resistance was precisely measured by a load cell transducer. The comparison of resistance on trimaran ship model coated and uncoated by eel slime are shown on the graph as a function of the total drag coefficient and Froude number. It is discovered the trimaran ship model by eel slime has higher drag reduction compared to trimaran with no eel slime at similar displacement. The result shows the drag reduction about 11 % at Fr 0.35.

A relative method, defined as indirect approach to evaluate the material properties via the relationship between unknown properties and a known property, is proposed to estimate some properties that could not be measured by the traditional methods for ceramics. Experiments and theoretic analysis based on the relative method were carried out in this study to estimate the properties in following aspects: determining the temperature dependence of elastic modulus of some machineable ceramics by comparing the deflections; obtaining the modulus and strength of ceramic coatings supported by substrates, from the variation in properties of the rectangular beam samples before and after coating; estimating the residual stresses in tempered glass by comparing the change in the surface strength after strengthening.

With an increase in the number of nursing students and the limited number of open clinical positions, high-fidelity patient simulators (HFPS) have become the new norm. Multiple studies have evaluated HFPS effectiveness and several suggest that HFPS does has an effect on critical thinking. This study intends to provide data to support that suggestion. In addition, this study was designed to identify a possible correlation between role assignment and improvements in critical thinking after completion of a HFPS scenario. Analysis revealed that role assignment, for most of the roles, did have a statistically significant effect on the post-simulation critical thinking assessment scores. The relationship between role assignments and HFPS scenario outcomes (such as critical thinking), as well as the nature of the correlation, may help scenario developers better understand how critical thinking improvement can be affected by the involvement of the participant based on the roles assigned to them.

Illegal fishing carried out by foreign fishing vessels (Kapal Ikan Asing, KIA) and Indonesian fishing vessels (Kapal Ikan Indonesia, KII) in Indonesian waters also causes other crimes such as the entry of illegal immigrants to Indonesia. This writing aims to assess the relationship between illegal fishing and the entry of illegal immigrants as a form of transnational crime. The research method used is normative legal research. The sources of legal material used are primary, secondary and tertiary legal materials related to writing. The technique of collecting data through library studies and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study show that Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country in the world with 17,504 large and small islands and a length of coastline of 81,700 km 2 makes Indonesia a country with abundant marine resource potential. For this reason, many foreign naval fleets have made Indonesian waters as the main destination for their capture fisheries. This capture fishery company has more foreign ownership, the exploitation of marine resources that we own both legally and illegally. Likewise, this also happened in the Moluccas territory. As a province of the archipelago with an ocean area of 658,295 km 2 with a coastline length of 11,000 km 2, the Maluku Sea holds abundant potential for marine wealth. Arafura Sea is one of the fisheries management areas which is often the main destination for foreign-owned fishing vessels. These fresh fish from the Moluccas are stolen and taken away in fresh condition directly to the area of origin of the perpetrators. Illegal fishing activities not only make Indonesia economically disadvantaged, but there is another problem, namely the existence of other crimes that usually follow the illegal fishing activities. One of them is the entry of illegal immigrants into Indonesian territory.

Based on the fact that malignant cancerous lesions (neoplasms) develop high metabolism and use more blood supply than normal tissue, infrared thermography (IR) has become a reliable clinical technique used to indicate noninvasively the presence of cancerous diseases, e.g., skin and breast cancer. However, to diagnose cancerous diseases by IR, the technique requires procedures that explore the relationship between the neoplasm characteristics (size, blood perfusion rate and heat generated) and the resulting temperature distribution on the skin surface. In this research work the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) has been coupled with the simulated annealing technique (SA) in a new inverse procedure, which coupled to the IR technique, is capable of estimating simultaneously geometrical and thermophysical parameters of the neoplasm. The method is of an evolutionary type, requiring random initial values for the unknown parameters and no calculations of sensitivities or search directions. In addition, the DRBEM does not require any re-meshing at each proposed solution to solve the bioheat model. The inverse procedure has been tested considering input data for simulated neoplasms of different sizes and positions in relation to the skin surface. The successful estimation of unknown neoplasm parameters validates the idea of using the SA technique and the DRBEM in the estimation of parameters. Other estimation techniques, based on genetic algorithms or sensitivity coefficients, have not been capable of obtaining a solution because the skin surface temperature difference is very small.

In this work, nanosecond laser machining is used to fabricate hydrophobic 17-4 PH stainless steel surfaces with microscale and submicron structures. Four surface structures were designed, with microscale channels and pillars (100 μm pitch size) of uniform heights (100 μm) or alternating heights (between 100 μm and 50 μm). During fabrication, the high-power laser beams also created submicron features on top of the microscale ones, leading to hierarchical, multiscale surface structures. Detailed wettability analysis was conducted on the fabricated samples. Measured static contact angles of water on these surfaces are over 130 deg without any coating, compared to ∼70 deg on the original steel surface before laser machining. Slightly lower contact angle hysteresis was also observed on the laser machined surfaces. Overall, these results agree with a simple Cassie–Baxter model for wetting that assumes only fractional surface area contact between the droplet and the surface. This work demonstrates that steel surfaces machined with relatively inexpensive nanosecond laser can achieve excellent hydrophobicity even with simple microstructural designs.
