A novel compact coplanar waveguide- (CPW-) fed ultrawideband (UWB) printed planar volcano-smoke antenna (PVSA) with four band-notches for various wireless applications is proposed and demonstrated. The low-profile antenna consists of a C-shaped parasitic strip to generate a notched band at 8.01~8.55 GHz for the ITU band, two C-shaped slots, and an inverted U-shaped slot etched in the radiator patch to create three notched bands at 5.15~5.35 GHz, 5.75~5.85 GHz, and 7.25~7.75 GHz for filtering the WLAN and X-band satellite signals. Simulated and measured results both confirm that the proposed antenna has a broad bandwidth of 3.1~12 GHz with VSWR < 2 and good omnidirectional radiation patterns with four notched-bands.

A coplanar waveguide- (CPW-) fed dual-band-notched antenna with sharp skirt selectivity for ultrawideband (UWB) applications is presented. The proposed antenna is composed of a radiant patch with a C-shaped slot and a C-shaped stub on the back surface of the substrate. By using the C-shaped slot and the C-shaped stub, dual-band-notched characteristics can be generated. In this way, a more practical and effective approach to design an UWB antenna with sharp notched-band-edge selectivity is developed. The measurement results show dual notched bands of 4.96–5.42 GHz and 5.71–5.91 GHz, which can reject the interference between IEEE 802.11a bands (5.15–5.35 GHz and 5.725–5.825 GHz) and UWB systems. The fabricated antenna shows good omnidirectional radiation patterns with acceptable gain and group delay.

Abstract A compact ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with reconfigurable triple band notch characteristics is proposed in this paper. The antenna consists of a coplanar waveguide-fed top-cut circular-shaped radiator with two etched C-shaped slots, a pair of split-ring resonators (SRRs) on the backside and four p-type intrinsic n-type (PIN) diodes integrated in the slots and SRRs. By controlling the current distribution in the slots and SRRs, the antenna can realize eight band notch states with independent switch ability, which allows UWB to coexist with 5G (3.3–4.4 GHz)/WiMAX (3.3–3.6 GHz), WLAN (5.15–5.825 GHz), and X-band (7.9–8.4 GHz) bands without interference. By utilizing a nested structure of C-shaped slots and SRRs on the backside, a compact size of 18 × 19.5 mm2 is achieved along with multimode triple band notch reconfigurability. The antenna covers a bandwidth of 3.1–10.6 GHz. A prototype is fabricated and tested. The simulated and experimental results are in good agreement.

In this article, a graphene-assembled film (GAF)-based compact and low-profile ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) antenna is presented and tested for wearable applications. The highly conductive GAFs (~106 S/m) together with the flexible ceramic substrate ensure the flexibility and robustness of the antenna, which are two main challenges in designing wearable antennas. Two H-shaped slots are introduced on a coplanar-waveguide (CPW) feeding structure to adjust the current distribution and thus improve the antenna bandwidth. The compact GAF antenna with dimensions of 32 × 52 × 0.28 mm3 provides an impedance bandwidth of 60% (4.3–8.0 GHz) in simulation. The UWB characteristics are further confirmed by on-body measurements and show a bending insensitive bandwidth of ~67% (4.1–8.0 GHz), with the maximum gain at 7.45 GHz being 3.9 dBi and 4.1 dBi in its flat state and bent state, respectively. Our results suggest that the proposed antenna functions properly in close proximity to a human body and can sustain repetitive bending, which make it well suited for applications in wearable devices.

A novel millimeter wave coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed Fabry-Perot (F-P) antenna with high gain, broad bandwidth, and low profile is reported. The partially reflective surface (PRS) and the ground form the F-P resonator cavity, which is filled with the same dielectric substrate. A dual rhombic slot loop on the ground acts as the primary feeding antenna, which is fed by the CPW and has broad bandwidth. In order to improve the antenna gain, metal vias are inserted surrounding the F-P cavity. A CPW-to-microstrip transition is designed to measure the performances of the antenna and extend the applications. The measured impedance bandwidth ofS11less than −10 dB is from 34 to 37.7 GHz (10.5%), and the gain is 15.4 dBi at the center frequency of 35 GHz with a 3 dB gain bandwidth of 7.1%. This performance of the antenna shows a tradeoff among gain, bandwidth, and profile.

AbstractIn this paper, a novel compact UWB antenna with variable notched band characteristics for UWB applications is presented. The designed antenna primarily consists of an adjusted elliptical shaped metallic patch and a partial ground plane. The proposed antenna has a compact size of only 17 × 17 mm2. The suggested antenna covers the frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 12 GHz. A single notched band has been achieved at 7.4 GHz with the aid of integrating a novel closed loop resonator at the back plane of the antenna. This notched band can be utilized to alleviate the interference impact with the downlink X-band applications. Besides, a square slot was cut in the loop in order to obtain a variable notched band. With the absence and the existence of this slot, the notched band can be varied to mitigate interference of the upper WLAN band (5.72–5.82 GHz) and X-band (7.25–7.75 GHz) with UWB applications. A good agreement between measurement and simulation results was achieved, which affirms the appropriateness of this antenna for UWB applications.

A novel simple approach for designing single-layer printed log-periodic dipole array (PLPDA) antenna fed by conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CBCPW) is presented. The PLPDA antenna has the merits of wide bandwidth, low profile, and stable radiation pattern, which should be fed by the balanced line. The balanced line, created by the geometric features of the CBCPW, provides a balun with a considerably wide bandwidth with low profile, broad bandwidth, low insertion loss, and so forth. The prototype of the proposed CBCPW-fed printed log-periodic array at Ka band is designed and fabricated; the measured data are in good agreement with the simulated results.

AbstractA coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed circular slot ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with triple band-notched characteristics is proposed and its performance is evaluated by HFSS simulation and measurement. The three notch bands are realized by means of two arc-shaped parasitic elements (ASPEs) and an E-shaped stub (ESS). By adjusting the dimensions of the ASPEs and ESS, three notch bands can be tuned to filter unwanted 3.5 GHz WiMAX, 5.5 GHz WLAN and 8 GHz X-band signals. The simulated and measured results demonstrate that the proposed antenna covers the entire UWB band with voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2 and provides three notch bands to reduce potential interferences from existing narrowband systems. Furthermore, this tri-band frequency rejection UWB antenna can provide omnidirectional radiation patterns and high rejection band-notched characteristics, which are suitable for UWB communication applications.

A triple band-notched ultrawide band (UWB) antenna is presented to avoid the interference of services working in the UWB band, such as WLAN, WiMAX and X-band satellite systems. The arc H-shaped slot on the radiating patch creates a low frequency notched band, while the other two band-notched bands are formed by cutting narrow slots on the ground plane. The presented antenna can operate on the ultrawide band efficiently and inhibit interference from three different kinds of narrow band communication systems. The simulation and measurement results show that the antenna has excellent band-notched function on the rejectband and almost omnidirectional radiation pattern on the passband.
