Objective. Early nutritional support in patients with gastric cancer can improve their nutritional status, but the impact on immune function has not been confirmed. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Qihuang decoction combined with enteral nutrition on nutrition and the immune function of postoperative gastric cancer. Methods. 120 patients with postoperative gastric cancer in the study group and 117 in the control group were selected as the study subjects from our hospital at random. Indications of nutrition and immune and the rates of complications were compared the day before surgery and 1, 3, 7, and 14 days after surgery. Results. Indications of nutrition except hemoglobin (HB) in the study group were significantly higher than those before operation and the albumin (ALB) and prealbumin (TP) were significantly increased 7 and 14 days after surgery (P<0.001 and P<0.001 versus P<0.001 and P<0.001) and the protein (PA) 3, 7, and 14 days after surgery (P=0.011, P=0.002, and P=0.022) in the study group compared to those in the control group. Cellular and humoral immunity indications in the study group are significantly higher than those before operation compared to those in the control group, and the CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ were significantly increased 7 and 14 days after surgery (P=0.027 and P<0.001 versus P=0.008 and P<0.001 versus P=0.010 and P<0.001) and IgA, IgG, and IgM 3, 7, and 14 days after surgery in the study group (P<0.001, P<0.001, and P<0.001 versus P<0.001, P<0.002, and P<0.001 versus P<0.001, P<0.001, and P<0.001). The complications such as abdominal, lung, wound, and urinary infection were also significantly decreased (Pχ2=0.017; Pχ2=0.036; Pχ2=0.041; Pχ2=0.004). Conclusions. Qihuang decoction combined with enteral nutrition can promote the absorption of enteral nutrition with improving the immune and reducing complications of infection.

Background/Aims: In this study, we investigated the effect of post-surgical parenteral nutrition on patients with gastric cancer (GC) and its possible mechanism. Methods: A total of 108 patients were invited to assess for eligibility and 28 patients were excluded. The eighty patients were randomized to either a study group (1 L peripheral intravenous nutrition, 700 kcal) or a control group (1 L isotonic electrolyte solution). Parenteral nutrition was started on day 1 post-surgery and maintained for 4-8 days. Levels of albumin (ALB), prealbumin (PAB), hemoglobin (Hb) were measured before and after treatment. Self-rating Scale of Life Quality (SSLQ) and Quality of life (QoL) was assessed to analyze the patients’ quality of life. Psychological status was evaluated using both the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A/D) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Immune function was evaluated by flow cytometric analysis of the levels of CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ cells. Results: Following post-surgical parenteral nutrition, the levels of ALB, PAB and Hb were significantly higher in the study group than those in the control group. QoL and SSLQ scores were also significantly increased, while HAD-A/D and PHQ-9 scores were significantly reduced. Furthermore, the percentages of CD3+ and CD4+ cells, but not CD8+ cells, as well as the CD4+/CD8+ ratio were significantly increased in the study group. There were no significant differences in these parameters between the control and study group prior to surgery. Conclusion: The results suggest that post-surgical parenteral nutrition can significantly improve the nutritional and psychological status, QoL, and immune function of patients treated surgically for GC.

This study aims to ascertain the impact exerted by the nutritional risk screening on clinical outcome of patients with esophageal cancer. Methods. 160 patients with esophageal cancer aged over 60, having got therapy at the First Hospital of Jilin University from Jun 2016 to Feb 2017 were evaluated by adopting the NRS2002. 80 cases of patients got active therapy of nutritional support, and the other patients not supported nutritionally were selected as the control group. The comparison was drawn between two groups in serum albumin, serum immunoglobulin, postoperative complications, hospitalization, and hospitalization expenses. Results. For all the patients, in 3 and 7 days after the surgery, the serum albumin in the nutritionally supported group outstripped that in group without nutritional support (P<0.05) regardless of the nutritional risk. For the patients in the risk of nutrition, the IgA in the nutritionally supported group outstripped that of group without nutritional support (P<0.05) in 3 and 7 days before the surgery, and the serum IgG outstripped that of the group without nutritional support in 1 and 3 days before the surgery (P<0.05). In terms of the patients in the risk of nutrition, the average hospitalization of nutritionally supported group was shorter (P<0.05), and the average hospitalization expenses were lower compared with those of the group without nutritional support. And for the patients in no risk, the hospitalization expenses of supported group surmounted those of group without nutritional support (P<0.05), whereas the average hospitalization took on no statistic difference (P>0.05). Conclusion. For the patients in the risk of nutrition, preoperative nutritional support can facilitate the nutritional status and immunization-relative result after surgery, which shall also decrease the average hospitalization and hospitalization cost.

Background and Objectives: Prenatal education represents an important part of maternal prenatal care in Western countries. In Romania, prenatal education is of recent interest but there is no official information about prenatal courses and their impact on prenatal care and patients in Romania. Material and methods: A prospective study based on the STROBE statement was designed in order to assess the prenatal education delivered in our unit. The study group included women who gave birth at Bucur Maternity, “Saint. John” Hospital, Bucharest, Romania and attended the prenatal courses, compared with a control group (women who gave birth in our unit but did not attend the prenatal lecture). Patients’ perception about the impact of prenatal education was collected by applying a questionnaire. Results: The analysis included 89 women who fulfilled the questionnaire online. In our study, 62 women (69.7%) attended the prenatal education classes and represented the study group while 27 women (30.3%) constituted the control group. Women who attended the prenatal lecture recognized the utility of the topic regarding newborn care (90.3%), while women from the control group did not consider it useful (n = 55.6%), χ2 = 18.412, p < 0.001. Patients from the study group admitted the importance of the topics (93.5%) from the lectures about breast feeding, while the percentage of these women from the control group is significantly lower (55.6%) χ2 = 27.867, p < 0.001. Conclusions: The benefits of prenatal education were recognized by women who attended the prenatal lecture, while women who did not participate underestimated the utility of the topics. Further actions are required to inform mothers about the necessity of antenatal education.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of one abnormal fetus in a twin pregnancy, to compare impact of chorionicity and clinical outcome of intervention and expectant management. Thirty-seven dichorionic (DC) twins and 18 monochorionic (MC) twins complicated with one malformed fetus were evaluated for gestational age, birthweight and perinatal outcome. Six hundred and forty-two twin pregnancies were evaluated in the database. The control groups consisted of 429 DC and 86 MC twins without anomalous fetus. Mean birthweight and gestational age at birth for DC control group were (n= 429; 2137g and 34.71 weeks), DC study group,n= 37; 2117g (p= .338) and 33.97 weeks (p= .311), and DC study group with major malformations,n= 30; 2019g (p= .289) and 33.3 weeks (p= .01), and showed only significance for gestational age. There was no statistical significance between MC control group,n= 86; 2097g and 34.93 weeks, and MC study group,n= 18; 2237g (p= .338), and 34.42 weeks (p= .502). Because of limited data, the preliminary evaluation for expectant management and intervention, and survival of at least one normal fetus showed no impact. We conclude that, although, all DC twin pregnancies have a risk for preterm delivery, DC twins complicated with major malformation of one twin, have a lower mean gestational age at birth. Preliminary results for intervention does not improve fetal outcome for DC and MC twins and needs further evaluation with greater studies of impact or review.

Objective Explore the impact of personalized nursing services and hospice care on the quality of life of elderly patients with advanced cancer. Method We selected 80 elderly cancer patients admitted to our hospital from September 2020 to May 2021, and divided these patients into a study group and a control group using a random number table method. The patients in the control group used conventional nursing methods to treat and care for the patients, and the patients in the study group used hospice care measures and combined personalized nursing measures. The quality of life and pain treatment effects of the two groups of patients before and after treatment were compared. Result Before treatment, the quality-of-life scores of the two groups of patients were low, and there was no statistical difference (P>0.05); After treatment, the quality of life of the two groups of patients improved, but compared with the control group, the improvement was more obvious in the study group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). In terms of pain treatment effect, the total effective rate of pain treatment in the study group was 87.5%, which was significantly better than the 62.5% in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Personalized nursing services and hospice care are conducive to improving the survival and treatment of elderly patients with advanced cancer, and can be used as a clinical application program for the care of advanced cancer patients.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor combined with erythropoietin on chronic granulocytic leukemia with anemia and its effect on nutritional status. Methods: 60 patients of chronic granulocytic leukemia of our hospital with anemia induced by maintenance chemotherapy were randomly divided into two groups. Patients in the control group received routine treatment, while patients in the observation group received basal treatment with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and erythropoietin. The nutritional status before and after treatment as well as the immune function and the incidence of blood transfusion and adverse events were compared between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in hemoglobin, hematocrit, nutritional status and immune function between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). Those after treatment were significantly higher than that before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the percentage of CD4* cells in the control group was significantly higher than that before treatment (P<0.05), but the percentage of CD8* cells and CD47/CD8* cells did not change significantly (P>0.05). After treatment, the concentrations of IgA, IgM and IgG in the observation group were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), but only the concentrations of IgA and IgM in the control group were significantly higher than those in the observation group after treatment (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group. Conclusion: Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor combined with erythropoietin can effectively correct anemia, improve nutritional status and improve immune function in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Study Objective: To evaluate the impact of multifollicular ovarian stimulation in in vitro fertilisation (IVF) programmes on hemostasis. Study Design: perspective comparative study. Materials and Methods. The study included 68 patients divided into two groups: study group (n = 36) — infertile patients; control group (n = 32) — healthy non-pregnant women of reproductive age. The protocol with gonadotrophin releasing hormone antagonists was used for ovulation stimulation. Hemostasis system in study patients was evaluated in 2 weeks after embryos were transferred to uterus; in control group — on day 20–22 of menstrual period. For the study group, we evaluated clotting test parameters of hemostasis system, D-dimers (D-d) and fibrin monomer (FM). Study Results. We have not found statistically significant differences between hemostasis screening results of study groups. We have identified increase in pro-coagulatory properties of blood in the study group patients: increase in FM and D-d (р < 0.0001 in both cases). There is an association between study parameters and pregnancy (p < 0.001) and no association with obesity, age and infertility. Conclusion. In IVF programme, FM and D-d levels rise, evidencing hypercoagulation development. An increase in FM levels was even more significant and can be used as an early and specific fibrogenesis marker. Background. Nutritional insufficiency and decreased muscle mass of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 leads to prolonged respiratory support, stay in ICU and hospital, as well as reduced muscle strength and quality of life in the recovery period after a viral pneumonia caused by COVID-19. Aims: To study the effects of oral nutritional support on the physical health recovery of COVID-19 patients. Materials and methods. A prospective, open, multicenter, comparative observative study of two groups, observational study was initiated to evaluate the effects of oral nutritional support (ONS) by Nutridrink 200 ml on the ability of COVID-19 patients to recover. The patients with these criteria were included in the study: aged 1869; a confirmed COVID-19 infection; requires respiratory support; ability to consume more than 60% of food from the total required; presence of a signed consent form. One group received supplementary oral nutritional support (ONS) everyday for 28 days from the day of inclusion. The other group received standard diet. The primary endpoint was the evaluation of quality of life using the SF-36 questionnaire and the changes in the hand grip strength between the 3rd and 1st visits. Secondary endpoints of the study were length of stay in hospital and duration of respiratory support in the hospital. Results. 205 patients with a COVID-19 infection were included in the study. The final number of patients included in the study was 185 patients. Median age was 55 years old. The majority of patients were male 57.84% (107 patients). Upon evaluation of the physical component of quality of life using the SF-36 questionnaire, we obtained a statistically significant difference between the control and study groups on the 4th visit 44.285.45 and 46.586.76 respectively (p=0.012). Muscle strength was statistically different in the control (4.011.15 daN) and study (6.12.06 daN) groups (p 0.0001). The duration of respiratory support was significantly lower in the study group, 6.71.30 days as opposed to 8.141.52 days in the control group (p 0.0001). Also, in the group with oral nutritional support, there was a statistically significant decrease in the length of stay in hospital. In the control group, the average length of stay in hospital was 16.472.93 days, whereas in the study group it was 13.162.69 days (p 0.0001). Conclusion. Oral nutritional support given to oxygen dependent COVID-19 patients improves rehabilitation potential including preservation of muscle mass and function, reducing oxygen support requirements and length of stay in hospital.
