This paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the fund policy on ecodesign and manufacturing/remanufacturing activities and the effectiveness of the manufacturer’s ecodesign responsibility transfer strategy. It considers a manufacturing and remanufacturing system composed of a single manufacturer and a single remanufacturer performing under relevant fund policy. The fund policy is innovatively designed by considering three dimensions: tax, reduction, and subsidy. Based on mathematical models and comparative analysis, the principal results show the following: (1) the impact scope of either the tax or the reduction dimension of the fund policy is larger than that of subsidy. The subsidy for encouraging remanufacturing is effective only when the remanufacturer uses some of the collected returns for remanufacturing. (2) The impact direction of tax, reduction, or subsidy is complicated, changing when the remanufacturer uses some of the collected returns for remanufacturing. (3) The responsibility transfer behavior of the manufacturer does not change the impact scope of the fund policy, but changes its impact strength and impact path. The impact of the responsibility transfer strategy on enterprises’ decision-making varies with different remanufacturing scenarios.

Business Intelligence (BI) has embarked on decision-making setting. This has influenced many organizations from different industries that are located in diverse regions to implement BI. Critical Successful Factors (CSF) becomes the guideline for the implementer to adopt BI successfully. However, lack of BI knowledge and weak consideration of BI CSF led to the failure of BI implementation project. Several issues and challenges have been identified during the BI implementation. In addition, other researchers rarely discussed this subject. Thus, the objective of this paper is to recognize the issues and challenges on BI implementation. Through qualitative method, BI practices systematically described the purpose of BI execution on selected organizations, industries and regions. It has given the path towards the issues and challenges of BI implementation. The identified issues and challenges are defining the business goal, data management, limited funding, training and user acceptance as well as the lack of expertise issues. The findings categorized the issues and challenges into three dimensions of CSF for BI implementation, which are Organization, Process and Technology dimension. Limitation in this study requires future researchers to study in details of these issues and challenges including the solutions and the impact of BI implementation.

This paper uses the concept of environment rent philosophy to explain rationale for government taxation and principles of taxation, and uses mathematical models to specifically discuss practical problems of government pollution taxation under this philosophy. The model provides mathematical equations for optimal decision-making by consumers, producers, and government and analyzes the impact of changes in taxation rates on the three parties.

Comparative analysis the main parameters of injection molding and the physic-mechanicals properties of polymer compositions based on polyamide 6.6. Samples we had obtained by injection molding method at injection molding machine ENGEL E-MAC 170/75. The process parameters had determined empirically to achieve certain quality criteria. Physics and mechanicals properties had evaluated by Sharpy impact strength. Statistical data processing, construction of graphs and diagrams had done in MS Excel. During the researching, had done a comparative analysis of the main parameters of the injection molding process, physical and mechanical properties, such as impact strength of the samples obtained from the glass-filled polymer composition based on polyamide PA6.6-GFGB30 and the material without glass filler PA6.6. During the experiment and data, analysis had revealed an increase in the impact strength of samples by 43%, cast from polymeric composition material PA6.6-GFGB30 in comparison with PA6.6. At the same time the process parameters such as the temperature, which directly affects the energy resources consumption, did not receive statistically significant changes. Among the features of changes in process parameters, we can note an increase in switching pressure, a decrease in the dosing time, and others. In addition, the speed and linear values of the process have changed. For the first time had performed a detailed comparative analysis the main processing parameters by injection molding and the physic-mechanicals properties of polymer compositions based on polyamide 6.6. The results will allow a professional approach to the selection of polymer compositions and technological parameters the process of their processing by injection molding.

In this paper we examined how participation in savings groups like the Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) influence women’s agency in rural Ghana, i.e. their ability to freely participate in group activities and act on other issues and matters that affect them. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from VSLA and nonVSLA members to compare the effect between participants and nonparticipants. We used three dimensions of agency adapted from the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) to assess female agency: women’s participation and decision making in groups; women’s comfort with public speaking; and women’s decision making in their households. A significant finding of this study is that VSLA membership has enhanced the agency of female participants as they are more economically and socially active and can act on their own compared to women who did not use the savings group.

Research background: In the era of the digital revolution, the Internet, automation and robotisation, new industrial relations and dynamic interactions among different stakeholders are giving rise to new opportunities and challenges. The changes associated with the enforcement of the ?Industry 4.0? concept require adaptation to these developments at different levels of the economy and society in order to support digital transformation. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to measure and assess the impact of digital transformation on European countries (EU). The comparative analysis of technological development in EU countries includes three dimensions: the digitalisation of society (Society 4.0), the ability of the economy to face the challenges of technological development (Economy 4.0), as well as the exploitation of ICT in companies (Companies 4.0). Methods: The empirical section of the article was built on a two-stage analytical approach: (a) cluster analysis methods to assess differences and similarities between EU countries (Hierarchical Cluster and K-Means Cluster) and (b) the multi-criteria decision-making method (TOPSIS) to rank countries according to the adopted evaluation criteria. For the purposes of this analysis, data from the Eurostat database have been applied. Findings & value added: The results of this analysis demonstrate the impact of technological transformation on the economy and society in EU countries grouped according to a similar level of development, such as countries with high, medium and low performance. This has contributed to indicating the cohesion in technological development achieved by each country group and to recognising the digitalisation gap between EU Member States. The novelty of this study consists in applying the multi-stage, multi-criteria analysis based on cluster analysis and the TOPSIS method, as well as the comparative analysis of the impact of technological developments on the societies and economies of EU countries. This paper extends similar studies by focusing on the application of a broad range of indicators regarding a holistic perspective including three dimensions: societies, economies and companies. The results provide valuable insights into evaluating the technological progress in European countries.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the configuration of factors affecting the accuracy of triage decision-making. The contribution of the work is twofold: first, it develops a protocol for applying a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) in the context of triage decision-making, and second, it studies, through two pilot cases, the interplay between individual and organizational factors in determining the emergence of errors in different decisional situations. Design/methodology/approach The methodology adopted in this paper is the qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). The fuzzy-set variant of QCA (fsQCA) is implemented. The data set has been collected during field research carried out in the Emergency Departments (EDs) of two Italian public hospitals. Findings The results of this study show that the interplay between individual and contextual/organizational factors determines the emergence of errors in triage assessment. Furthermore, there are some regularities in the patterns discovered in each of the investigated organizational contexts. These findings suggest that we should avoid isolating individual factors from the context in which nurses make their decisions. Originality/value Previous research on triage has mainly explored the impact of homogeneous groups of factors on the accuracy of the triage process, without considering the complexity of the phenomenon under investigation. This study outlines the need to consider the not-linear relationships among different factors in the study of triage’s decision-making. The definition and implementation of a protocol to apply fsQCA to the triage process in EDs further contributes to the originality of the research.

Research on the impact of European integration focuses on the external relations of national agencies. This has neglected the impact that Europeanization has on the internal operations of agencies and the way in which coordination is practiced. This article researches the impact of European integration on national agencies with regard to three dimensions: their recruitment schemes, their internal organization, and their external coordination arrangements. The paper presents a 20-year historical review of highly Europeanised agencies – the German pharmaceutical and chemical regulators. This allows us to explore whether different roles in the policy process mediate the effects of Europeanisation. As a result, the article shows that Europeanisation has impacted comprehensively on the recruitment schemes, organizational structure, and coordination arrangements of the two agencies. Both agencies have gained highly qualified personnel for their tasks related to European decision-making and have reorganized their structure to adapt to the requirements of this decision-making.

This study investigates the impact of scientific and technological advances and adaptation of artificial intelligence on corporate governance practices. It applies or can be applied in three dimensions - business, technology, and society. Therefore, to assess the necessity, feasibility, effectiveness, and responsibility of decision-making automation at the Board of Directors (supervisory body of a legal entity) to ensure effective corporate governance, it is necessary to consider all normative regulators in the field of corporate law. Based on an assessment of the potential and limitations of human and machine learning for effective decision-making at the level of the collegial governance body, the Board of Directors, the paper proposes five AI-based governance scenarios, i.e., supportive, augmented, enhanced, autonomous, and autopoietic, that can shape the governance of organizations today, tomorrow, and in the future. It is important to understand the implications of such AI-enabled governance in the areas where the Board is empowered to make certain corporate decisions.

Immediately after the catastrophes that affected Venezuela at the end of 1999, especially the flood of the State of Vargas, a group of investigators of a consultancy company and of a private university of Caracas Venezuela, started working in decisions support systems (DSS) that could be useful in the moment of a catastrophe, helping to minimize the impact of its three principal stages: Pre-catastrophe, Impact and Post-catastrophe. Clearly, for the development of these DSS, it was indispensable to construct mathematical models to support them. The objective of this chapter is to disclose this experience by presenting some of these mathematical models and its conversion in DSS that supports decision making in the case of catastrophes.

AbstractThis study presents a fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (FMCDM) approach for analyzing the influential factors affecting the outcome/success of global software development (GSD) projects. The main aim of this study is to demonstrate the potential of proposed methodology based on FMCDM which is used to measure the offshore/onsite teams’ partnership quality dimensions and underlying the influential factors towards the outcome of GSD projects. The uncertainty and subjective vagueness within the decision making process are dealing with fuzzy linguistic terms quantified in an interval scale [0,1]. The proposed FMDCM framework is used to determine the priority weights of partnership quality factors and rating the GSD project outcome/success from the service provider perspective into three dimensions: service quality, schedule and cost improvement. The predicted GSD project outcome values are obtained to facilitate organization and to determine the impact of offshore/on-site teams’ partnership quality towards success of GSD project outcome otherwise initiate actions to improve the GSD project outcome. This study established survey research method that involves thirty-eight critical influential factors evaluated by twenty software professionals for their assessment of GSD projects outcome in India.
