The purchase cost of chain convenience stores accounts for a large proportion of the total cost. Enterprises are facing the problem of how to reasonably reduce the purchase cost while ensuring the quality of service. This paper first considers the uniqueness of chain convenience stores, draws on existing research results, and establishes an evaluation index system for chain convenience store suppliers through field research. Then, we use the principal component analysis method of selection to determine the weight of each index and make a preliminary ranking of the importance of chain convenience store suppliers. Secondly, according to the relevant weights determined by the network hierarchy method, the collected data are substituted into the multiobjective mathematical programming model to analyze the distribution of supplier procurement and calculate the procurement cost. The level of procurement expenditures accounted for by suppliers confirms the importance of suppliers. The results show that through the evaluation and ranking of suppliers and the effective management of suppliers according to the ranking results, not only the goal of cost minimization is achieved but also the reasonable service level is guaranteed, which is scientific.

Supply chain has become more and more vulnerable to disruption since it is suffering widespread risk issues from inside or outside. Higher uncertainties in the supplier selection problem have gone beyond the traditional cost minimization concern. These uncertainties are related to an ever increasing product variety, more demanding customers, and a highly interconnected distribution network. This paper focuses on the supplier selection problem with disruption risks and mixed uncertainties. A novel multiobjective optimization model with mixed uncertain coefficients is developed, which maximizes the total profits and minimizes the percentage of items delivered late, percentage of items rejected, and total loss cost due to supplier dysfunction. Meanwhile, we also consider the customer demand to be a random fuzzy variable and the unit purchase cost to be a fuzzy variable. By examining a numerical example, we found that the confidence level and demand of customers have impact on the quantities purchased by customers from suppliers although the distribution of suppliers will not change. The cost, quality, and service also influence the selection of suppliers. The superevents have little influence on the distribution of supplier selection; however, when unique event occurs, the distribution of supplier selection will change.

Abstract A strategy for the design of a hydrogen supply chain (HSC) network in Germany incorporating the uncertainty in the hydrogen demand is proposed. Based on univariate sensitivity analysis, uncertainty in hydrogen demand has a very strong impact on the overall system costs. Therefore we consider a scenario tree for a stochastic mixed integer linear programming model that incorporates the uncertainty in the hydrogen demand. The model consists of two configurations, which are analyzed and compared to each other according to production types: water electrolysis versus steam methane reforming. Each configuration has a cost minimization target. The concept of value of stochastic solution (VSS) is used to evaluate the stochastic optimization results and compare them to their deterministic counterpart. The VSS of each configuration shows significant benefits of a stochastic optimization approach for the model presented in this study, corresponding up to 26% of infrastructure investments savings.

The increase of urban traffic demands has directly affected some large cities that are now dealing with more serious urban rail transit congestion. In order to ensure the travel efficiency of passengers and improve the service level of urban rail transit, we proposed a multi-line collaborative passenger flow control model for urban rail transit networks. The model constructed here is based on passenger flow characteristics and congestion propagation rules. Considering the passenger demand constraints, as well as section transport and station capacity constraints, a linear programming model is established with the aim of minimizing total delayed time of passengers and minimizing control intensities at each station. The network constructed by Line 2, Line 6 and Line 8 of the Beijing metro is the study case used in this research to analyze control stations, control durations and control intensities. The results show that the number of delayed passengers is significantly reduced and the average flow control ratio is relatively balanced at each station, which indicates that the model can effectively relieve congestion and provide quantitative references for urban rail transit operators to come up with new and more effective passenger flow control measures.

According to the physical and chemical indexes of different periods, different storage containers and different storage sites, a two overall T test was used to show that there were significant differences in physical and chemical indexes of liquor body in different detection sites. Correlation analysis of wine storage in different storage methods by Spearman correlation coefficient. By using the principal component analysis method, the comprehensive evaluation index system of the quality of the wine body was constructed, and the classification model of the detection location based on the comprehensive evaluation was established by using the index system. The detection sites were classified, and the results showed that the detection sites were divided into four grades.

We investigated the moderating effect of consumer confusion on the relationship between inertia and purchase intention. Customers (N = 166) were approached randomly with a request to complete our survey as they finished shopping at a convenience store in Taiwan in August 2014. The results revealed that the purchase intention behavior relied on consumer inertia, which increased when consumers were confused because they were less capable of making rational buying decisions when choosing between retailer brands in the marketplace. In a marketing campaign context, our findings show that substantial differentiation is crucial for convenience store chains to strengthen the belief system and behavioral routines of their customers, thereby helping the convenience stores to strengthen their brand image, build consumer trust, achieve a competitive advantage, and capture a greater share of the market in both the short and long term.

Purpose This paper aims to propose a measurement of the materiality of environmental, social and governance information (ESG) reported by listed companies belonging to sensitive industries in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. This analysis is carried out from the insights of stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory and institutional theory. The research questions addressed are: What type of information is considered as material by Latin American companies? Does this information respond to the environmental and social issues within the context of Latin American companies and the needs of their stakeholders? Design/methodology/approach A materiality index is developed from principal component analysis and factor analysis, which are multivariate analysis statistical techniques used in various fields to develop indices. The designed index examines materiality in the sustainability reports of 65 companies for 2017 and 67 companies for 2018. These firms belong to the energy, mining, chemical, construction, construction materials and public services industries in Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Findings The results show medium-high materiality indices, mostly in Chilean, Mexican and Colombian companies. In addition, issues such as water management, climate change and occupational health and safety are particularly interesting for companies. For the two years studied and from the perspective of material aspects for the company and its stakeholders, energy, mining and utilities (drinking water and sewage) sectors obtained the highest scores. This shows that the disclosure of ESG information is higher in industries related to the exploitation of natural resources that cause adverse effects on the environment such as extractive industries. Both the analysis presented in this paper and the materiality measurement developed, allow social responsibility managers to have a standard on the level of importance allotted to the different topics disclosed in sustainability reports. Additionally, this study provides a perspective of the material issues recognized by sensitive industries with great environmental impact. Similarly, an analysis of the issues considered material by stakeholders is provided. This allows such issues to be compared, identifying similarities and differences among the issues regarded as material by a company and its stakeholders. Practical implications The paper opens the debate is open as to whether the information disclosed response to the needs of stakeholders or whether, on the contrary, the materiality analysis is a process that emerges simply from the interests of the company. These demands for qualitative and field research to complement quantitative studies such as this one to research the stakeholders’ engagement processes in context. Social implications The paper’s purpose a challenge for future research is to strengthen the use of various methodologies that allow knowing the participation processes in the definition of materiality in the ESG information and the companies’ engagement with stakeholders. This stimulates research in the region, which is still in its infancy. Originality/value The international literature contains few studies related to the assessment of materiality for sustainability reporting. So this paper contributes proposes measurement of materiality for ESG information.

This case captures inventory management process in an Indian convenience store. Unlike retail stores in developed countries, Indian convenience stores are a special format of organized retailing, where retailers open multiple smaller stores in a town instead of one big centralised store. An excellent inventory management process is the key to make such stores perform well. This case describes inventory management problems faced by an Indian convenience store chain and asks students to propose solutions to these problems. This case illustrates how processes realities and their IT solutions differ in an emerging economy. Using inventory management process as an example, this teaching case can introduce students to the process and technological realities in an Indian context and differences between India and the West.
