In this paper, we report the synthesis, phase formation, and basic characterization of polycrystalline Bi2Fe4O9, Bi1.98Ba0.02Fe4O9, and Bi1.98Ce0.02Fe4O9 samples prepared by the sol-gel technique. The crystal structure of the prepared samples has been characterized by means of X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering spectroscopy. All the obtained XRD peaks can be indexed to the orthorhombic Pbam structure and reveal the formation of Bi2Fe4O9. The Raman spectrum identifies Ag, B2g, and B3g active optical phonon modes. The crystallite size and morphology of the nanoparticles have been analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Dielectric constant (ε′) decreases as the frequency increases, and it is constant at the higher frequency region which can be explained based on the ionic conduction phenomenon in the low frequency region. The ε′ values of Bi2Fe4O9(650–850), Bi2Fe4O9(800–850), Bi1.98Ba0.02Fe4O9, and Bi1.98Ce0.02Fe4O9 samples at 10 Hz frequency are about 37, 75, 90, and 393, respectively. The observed properties signify that these materials are very useful in advanced technological and practical applications.

The electrochemical corrosion behavior of as-cast Mg-7Li alloy in 3.5wt% NaCl aqueous solution was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical workstation. Results showed that the Ecorr and the Icorr of Mg-7Li alloy were -1.5857V and 2.235×10-4A/cm2, respectively. The cathode process was chiefly the hydrogen evolution reaction, and the corrosion rate of Mg-7Li alloy was mainly controlled by anode dissolution. The corrosion products on the alloy surface consisted of Mg(OH)2, Li2O2 and Al(OH)3. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of Mg-7Li alloy contained two capacitive loops and one inductive loop. The inductance value increased to 250 ohm•cm-2 with a rise in frequency at low frequency region. The value of capacitive reactance decreased with increasing frequency at medium frequency. The capacitive reactance maintained the value of 50 ohm•cm-2 with increasing frequency at high frequency region.

AbstractThis study presents a preparation of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite synthesis via the green auto-combustion method. At first, SrFe12O19 nanoparticles were synthesized as a core and then, SrTiO3 nanoparticles were prepared as a shell for it to manufacture SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposite. A novel sol-gel auto-combustion green synthesis method has been used with lemon juice as a capping agent. The prepared SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using several techniques to characterize their structural, morphological and magnetic properties. The crystal structures of the nanocomposite were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite was studied by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The elemental composition of the materials was analyzed by an energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX). Magnetic properties and hysteresis loop of nanopowder were characterized via vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) in the room temperature. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra of the samples showed the molecular bands of nanoparticles. Also, the photocatalytic behavior of nanocomposites has been checked by the degradation of azo dyes under irradiation of ultraviolet light.

In order to improve the osteoblast growth and bacteria resistance, Zn-containing hydroxyapatite (Zn-HA) and titanium oxide (TiO2) composite coatings were prepared to improve binding between coating and Ti substrate. TiO2 film was prepared on the surface of Ti by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and Zn-HA coating was deposited on TiO2 using sol–gel technique. Phase structure, composition and microstructure of the surface coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), respectively. The adhesion strength between the coatings with different Zn content was measured by tensile testing. The results showed that there was no significant influence of Zn content on adhesion strength between coating and Ti substrate.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

In this study, thin films of CaBi4Ti4O15with preferential crystal orientation were prepared by the chemical solution deposition (CSD) technique on a SiO2/Si substrate. The films consisted of a crystalline phase of bismuth-layer-structured dielectric. The as-deposited CaBi4Ti4O15thin films were crystallized in a conventional furnace annealing (RTA) under the temperature of 700 to 800°C for 1min. Structural and morphological characterization of the CBT thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The impedance analyzer HP4294A and HP4156C semiconductor parameters analyzer were used to measurement capacitance voltage (C-V) characteristics and leakage current density of electric field (J-E) characteristics by metal-ferroelectric-insulator- semiconductor (MFIS) structure. By the experimental result the CBT thin film in electrical field 20V, annealing temperature in 750°C the CBT thin film leaks the electric current is 1.88x10-7A/cm2and the memory window is 1.2V. In addition, we found the strongest (119) peak of as-deposited thin films as the annealed temperature of 750°C

A novel flame retardant polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) was successfully obtained via combination of non-hydrolytic and hydrolytic sol-gel routes. Chemical structure of the resultant PMSQ was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry and powder X-ray diffraction, respectively. All the measurements demonstrated that the product possessed regular structure with chain-to-chain width of 0.87nm and chain thickness of 0.40nm. Weight average molecular weight of PMSQ was measured to be 3.5×105 using gel permeation chromatography. Numerical simulations of the molecular structure suggested that PMSQ should exhibit cis-isotactic configuration and double helical conformation at undisturbed condition.

Lead zirconate titanate/tungsten oxide (PZT/WO3) ceramics were prepared from the powders synthesized by a modified triol sol-gel processing method. In this study, the starting materials used for synthesis of PZT-sol were zirconium (IV) propoxide, titanium (IV) isopropxide, lead (II) acetate trihydrate and 1,1,1,- tris (hydroxymethyl) ethane. To prepare PZT/xWO3 powders (where x = 0, 0.5, 1 and 3 wt%), nano-sized WO3 was ultrasonically dispersed and mixed with the PZT sol, dried and calcined at 600°C for 4 h. X-ray diffraction results indicated that fully crystallized powders were obtained. Phase characterization suggested that at high WO3 concentration, the reaction between PZT and WO3 occurred during the calcination process. To prepare PZT/xWO3 ceramics, the powders were pressed and sintered at 1100°C for 6 h. Phase characterization by XRD indicated that the content of WO3 significantly affected tetragonal-to-rhombohedral phase transition. Microstructure of thermally etched samples showed that increasing the content of WO3 decreased grain size of the ceramics.

The properties influencing the photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 particles have been suggested to include the surface area, crystallinity, crystallite size and crystal structure. Therefore, manipulation of the microstructure of titania, especially of nanocrystalline powders, is very important in the preparative process. In this study, nanocrystalline TiO 2 powders with controlled particle size and phase composition were synthesized at low temperature (<80°C) by a modified sol–gel method. The effects of gelation temperature were systematically investigated. It was found that this parameter played a critical role in determining the crystallinity of single phase anatase. With increasing gelation temperature, the crystallinity of anatase improved initially and then decreased if the temperature was raised to 80°C. These nanomaterials were characterized comprehensively by powder X-ray diffraction (including Rietveld analysis), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, DSC/TGA thermal analysis and UV–Vis spectrometry.

Manganese oxides are of more interest to researchers because of their ability as catalysts and lithium batteries. In this research, MnO2nanowires with diameter about 45 nm were synthesized by sol–gel method at room temperature (RT). Effect of increasing the annealing temperature from 400[Formula: see text]C to 600[Formula: see text]C on crystalline structure of nanostructure were studied and average crystallite size was estimated about 22 nm. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) method, Energy-Dispersive X-ray Diffraction (EDXD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) were used to characterize the nanowires of MnO2.
