Multipoint optimal minimum entropy deconvolution adjusted (MOMEDA) is a powerful method that can extract the periodic characteristics of signal effectively, but this method needs to evaluate the fault cycle a priori, and moreover, the results obtained in a complex environment are easily affected by noise. These drawbacks reduce the application of MOMEDA in engineering practice greatly. In order to avoid such problems, in this paper, we propose an adaptive fault diagnosis method composed of two parts: fault information integration and extracted feature evaluation. In the first part, a Teager energy spectrum amplitude factor (T-SAF) is proposed to select the intrinsic mode function (IMF) components decomposed by ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), and a combined mode function (CMF) is proposed to further reduce the mode mixing. In the second part, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) taking fractal dimension as the objective function is employed to choose the filter length of MOMEDA, and then the feature frequency is extracted by MOMEDA from the reconstructed signal. A cyclic recognition method is proposed to appraise the extracted feature frequency, and the evaluation system based on threshold and weight coefficient removes the wrong feature frequency. Finally, the feasibility of the method is verified by simulation data, experimental signals, and on-site signals. The results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the bearing state.

To solve the problem of vibration motor fault detection accuracy and inefficiency in smartphone components, this paper proposes a fault diagnosis method based on the wavelet packet and improves long and short-term memory network. First, the voltage signal of the vibration motor is decomposed by a wavelet packet to reconstruct the signal. Secondly, the reconstructed signal is input into the improved three-layer LSTM network as a feature vector. The memory characteristics of the LSTM network are used to fully learn the time-series fault feature information in the unsteady state signal, and then, the model is used to diagnose the motor fault. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified through experiments and can be applied to engineering practice. Compared with the existing motor fault diagnosis method, the improved WP-LSTM diagnosis method has a better diagnosis effect and improves fault diagnosis.

In the signal processing of real subway vehicles, impacts between wheelsets and rail joint gaps have significant negative effects on the spectrum. This introduces great difficulties for the fault diagnosis of gearboxes. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an adaptive time-domain signal segmentation method that envelopes the original signal using a cubic spline interpolation. The peak values of the rail joint gap impacts are extracted to realize the adaptive segmentation of gearbox fault signals when the vehicle was moving at a uniform speed. A long-time and unsteady signal affected by wheel–rail impacts is segmented into multiple short-term, steady-state signals, which can suppress the high amplitude of the shock response signal. Finally, on this basis, multiple short-term sample signals are analyzed by time- and frequency-domain analyses and compared with the nonfaulty results. The results showed that the method can efficiently suppress the high-amplitude components of subway gearbox vibration signals and effectively extract the characteristics of weak faults due to uniform wear of the gearbox in the time and frequency domains. This provides reference value for the gearbox fault diagnosis in engineering practice.

Acceleration sensors are frequently applied to collect vibration signals for bearing fault diagnosis. To fully use these vibration signals of multi-sensors, this paper proposes a new approach to fuse multi-sensor information for bearing fault diagnosis by using ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), correlation coefficient analysis, and support vector machine (SVM). First, EEMD is applied to decompose the vibration signal into a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and a correlation coefficient ratio factor (CCRF) is defined to select sensitive IMFs to reconstruct new vibration signals for further feature fusion analysis. Second, an original feature space is constructed from the reconstructed signal. Afterwards, weights are assigned by correlation coefficients among the vibration signals of the considered multi-sensors, and the so-called fused features are extracted by the obtained weights and original feature space. Finally, a trained SVM is employed as the classifier for bearing fault diagnosis. The diagnosis results of the original vibration signals, the first IMF, the proposed reconstruction signal, and the proposed method are 73.33%, 74.17%, 95.83% and 100%, respectively. Therefore, the experiments show that the proposed method has the highest diagnostic accuracy, and it can be regarded as a new way to improve diagnosis results for bearings.

Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) can decompose signals into multiple intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). In recent years, VMD has been widely used in fault diagnosis. However, it requires a preset number of decomposition layers K and is sensitive to background noise. Therefore, in order to determine K adaptively, Permutation Entroy Optimization (PEO) is proposed in this paper. This algorithm can adaptively determine the optimal number of decomposition layers K according to the characteristics of the signal to be decomposed. At the same time, in order to solve the sensitivity of VMD to noise, this paper proposes a Modified VMD (MVMD) based on the idea of Noise Aided Data Analysis (NADA). The algorithm first adds the positive and negative white noise to the original signal, and then uses the VMD to decompose it. After repeated cycles, the noise in the original signal will be offset to each other. Then each layer of IMF is integrated with each layer, and the signal is reconstructed according to the results of the integrated mean. MVMD is used for the final decomposition of the reconstructed signal. The algorithm is used to deal with the simulation signals and measured signals of gearbox with multiple fault characteristics. Compared with the decomposition results of EEMD and VMD, it shows that the algorithm can not only improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the signal effectively, but can also extract the multiple fault features of the gear box in the strong noise environment. The effectiveness of this method is verified.

Abstract. In Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) tomography, precise information about the tropospheric water vapor distribution is derived from integral measurements like ground-based GNSS slant wet delays (SWDs). Therefore, the functional relation between observations and unknowns, i.e., the signal paths through the atmosphere, have to be accurately known for each station–satellite pair involved. For GNSS signals observed above a 15∘ elevation angle, the signal path is well approximated by a straight line. However, since electromagnetic waves are prone to atmospheric bending effects, this assumption is not sufficient anymore for lower elevation angles. Thus, in the following, a mixed 2-D piecewise linear ray-tracing approach is introduced and possible error sources in the reconstruction of the bended signal paths are analyzed in more detail. Especially if low elevation observations are considered, unmodeled bending effects can introduce a systematic error of up to 10–20 ppm, on average 1–2 ppm, into the tomography solution. Thereby, not only the ray-tracing method but also the quality of the a priori field can have a significant impact on the reconstructed signal paths, if not reduced by iterative processing. In order to keep the processing time within acceptable limits, a bending model is applied for the upper part of the neutral atmosphere. It helps to reduce the number of processing steps by up to 85 % without significant degradation in accuracy. Therefore, the developed mixed ray-tracing approach allows not only for the correct treatment of low elevation observations but is also fast and applicable for near-real-time applications.

In the era of big data, data-driven methods mainly based on deep learning have been widely used in the field of intelligent fault diagnosis. Traditional neural networks tend to be more subjective when classifying fault time-frequency graphs, such as pooling layer, and ignore the location relationship of features. The newly proposed neural network named capsules network takes into account the size and location of the image. Inspired by this, capsules network combined with the Xception module (XCN) is applied in intelligent fault diagnosis, so as to improve the classification accuracy of intelligent fault diagnosis. Firstly, the fault time-frequency graphs are obtained by wavelet time-frequency analysis. Then the time-frequency graphs data which are adjusted the pixel size are input into XCN for training. In order to accelerate the learning rate, the parameters which have bigger change are punished by cost function in the process of training. After the operation of dynamic routing, the length of the capsule is used to classify the types of faults and get the classification of loss. Then the longest capsule is used to reconstruct fault time-frequency graphs which are used to measure the reconstruction of loss. In order to determine the convergence condition, the three losses are combined through the weight coefficient. Finally, the proposed model and the traditional methods are, respectively, trained and tested under laboratory conditions and actual wind turbine gearbox conditions to verify the classification ability and reliable ability.

Effective intelligent fault diagnosis of bearings is important for improving safety and reliability of machine. Benefiting from the training advantages, deep learning method can automatically and adaptively learn more abstract and high-level features without much priori knowledge. To realize representative features mining and automatic recognition of bearing health condition, a diagnostic model of stacked sparse denoising autoencoder (SSDAE) which combines sparse autoencoder (SAE) and denoising autoencoder (DAE) is proposed in this paper. The sparse criterion in SAE, corrupting operation in DAE and reasonable designing of the stack order of autoencoders help to mine essential information of the input and improve fault pattern classification robustness. In order to provide better input features for the constructed network, the raw non-stationary and nonlinear vibration signals are processed with ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and multiscale permutation entropy (MPE). MPE features which are extracted based on both the selected characteristic frequency-related intrinsic mode function components (IMFs) and the raw signal, are used as low-level feature for the input of the proposed diagnostic model for health condition recognition and classification. Two experiments based on the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) dataset and the measurement dataset from laboratory were conducted, and results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and highlight its excellent performance relative to existing methods.
