Association of Serotonin Transporter Gene (5-HTTLPR/rs25531) Polymorphism with Comorbidities of Panic Disorder

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Panic disorder (PD) has many comorbidities such as depression, bipolar disorder (BPD), and agoraphobia (AG). PD is a moderately heritable anxiety disorder whose pathogenesis is not well understood. Recently, a tri-allelic serotonin transporter (5-HTTLPR/rs25531) polymorphism was reported to be more sensitive to personality traits compared to the bi-allelic 5-HTTLPR polymorphism. We hypothesized that the 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 polymorphism may lead to a pathological anxious state depending on the presence or absence of a comorbidity in PD. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> In this study, we investigated the relationship between comorbidities in PD and tri-allelic 5-HTTLPR polymorphisms. A total of 515 patients with PD (148 males, 367 females) were genotyped, and the Revised NEO Personality Inventory as well as anxiety-related psychological tests were administered. Depression, BPD, and AG were diagnosed as comorbidities. <b><i>Results:</i></b> For the tri-allele 5-HTTLPR genotype, a significant interaction effect was found between openness to experience and comorbid depression. Examination of the interaction between AG and the tri-allelic 5-HTTLPR genotype revealed that L’ allele carriers are associated with higher trait anxiety than the S’S’ genotype group in PD without AG. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Some anxiety and personality traits can be characterized by the tri-allelic gene effect of 5-HTTLPR. These results suggest that tri-allelic 5-HTTLPR genotypes have genetic effects on the presence of comorbidities of PD.

Purpose The purpose of this study aims to investigate the relationship between employees’ personality traits and their job performances (including task performance and contextual performance) of Taiwanese freight forwarders by using responses from a NEO Personality Inventory-Revised Form (NEO-PI-R) questionnaire survey. Design/methodology/approach One of the most popular personality trait model is the five-factor model (FFM), which includes the big five domains, namely, openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism (OCEAN). Each of these five domains includes six facets. Previous researchers have used OCEAN factors to describe the relationship between human personality and job performance. NEO Personality Inventory is a professional psychological assessment instrument published by psychological assessment resources. Multivariate analysis technique and regression technique are used to analyze surveyees’ responses. Findings Research results reveal the following four issues. The seniority of employees in a company has a positive relationship with their conscientiousness. Employees with higher score on the facets of the neuroticism domain have a negative correlation with their task performance and contextual performance. The relationship between employees’ openness to experience and job performance (both task performance and contextual performance) is not significant. Employees’ seniority has a positive correlation with both their task performance and contextual performance. In a nutshell, freight forwarding industry in Taiwan can use the facets in the neuroticism domain to screen and recruit appropriate job applicants. In addition, retaining senior employees could increase a forwarder’s task performance and contextual performance by their high degree of conscientiousness. Originality/value FFM model is a psychological theory dealing with the personality traits and human behavior. Freight forwarding is a labor-intensive business and is one of the most important sectors in the logistics industry. According the authors’ knowledge, the application of FFM on the logistics industry is simply not existed.

The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between burnout, personality traits and coping strategies. A survey design was used. The study population consisted of 131 employees in a corporate pharmaceutical group. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, NEO Personality Inventory Revised and COPE were administered. Active coping strategies were associated with Emotional Stability, Extraversion, Openness to Experience and Conscientiousness, while passive coping strategies were associated with Neuroticism, low Agreeableness and low Conscientiousness. Emotional Stability, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness were associated with lower emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation and higher personal accomplishment. Constructive coping strategies were associated with personal accomplishment. Opsomming Die doelstelling van hierdie navorsing was om te bepaal of daar ’n verband tussen uitbranding, persoonlikheidstrekke en coping-strategieë bestaan. ’n Opnameontwerp is gebruik. Background: Professionalism is among the major concepts of nursing. Besides, nursing professionalism is often associated with attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors that underlie the successful clinical practice. Personality traits can affect various aspects of an individual’s life. Accordingly, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between personality traits and nursing professionalism. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted on 205 nurses in teaching hospitals of Khoramabad City, Iran, in 2017. The study subjects were recruited by the stratified sampling method. NEO Personality Inventory and Goze Professional Behavior questionnaire were used to collect the required information. Then, the obtained data were analyzed by SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Nursing professionalism had a direct relationship with extraversion (r=0.330, P<0.05), conscientiousness (r=0.333, P<0.05), and agreeableness (r=0.172, P=0.014); it also had an inversed relationship with neuroticism (r=- 0.161, P=0.021). Conclusion: The Big Five personality traits are strongly related to nursing professionalism; with conscientiousness and extraversion as the most pronounced traits. Nurses’ attitudes are partly rooted in their personality traits and these attitudes affect the nurse-patient relationship. Therefore, it is suggested that these characteristics be considered in appointing nurses in different departments.

Present study examines the relationship between personality traits and intelligence. Further, find gender differences in personality traits and intelligence. The sample consists of 275 youth (141 boys and 133 girls) with the age range of 17 to 28 years (mean age 21.66 ± 2.47). Participants completed the NEO Personality Inventory and Raven’s Standard Progressive Matrices. The results showed that personality traits such as neuroticism, agreeableness and extraversion have significant relationships with intelligence. Furthermore, results showed that girls were higher on neuroticism and extraversion in comparison to boys. Implications, limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are also discussed.

AbstractBackground:It has been shown that certain personality traits are related to mortality and disease morbidity, but the biological mechanism linking them remains unclear. Telomeres are tandem repeat DNA sequences located at the ends of chromosomes, and shorter telomere length is a predictor of mortality and late-life disease morbidity. Thus, it is possible that personality traits influence telomere length. In the present study, we examined the relationship of leukocyte telomere length with personality traits in healthy subjects.Subjects and methods:The subjects were 209 unrelated healthy Japanese who were recruited from medical students at 4th–5th grade. Assessment of personality traits was performed by the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) and the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). Leukocyte relative telomere length was determined by a quantitative real-time PCR method for a ratio of telomere/single copy gene.Results:In the stepwise multiple regression analysis, shorter telomere length was related to lower scores of neuroticism (P < 0.01) and conscientiousness (P < 0.05) of the NEO-PI-R, and lower scores of harm avoidance (P < 0.05) and reward dependence (P < 0.05) of the TCI.Conclusions:The present study suggests that leukocyte telomere length is associated with some personality traits, and this association may be implicated in the relationship between personality traits and mortality.

Abstract In this descriptive – correlative study we examined the relationship between big five personality traits with cultural intelligence in 113 active soccer coaches in the city of Mashhad in north-eastern of Iran. Anget. al (2004) cultural intelligence (CI) and Costa & McCrae (1992) Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) and NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI questionnaires were used to obtain coaches’ rate of cultural intelligence and personality traits. The results of the study revealed a significant positive relationship between personality traits (except for neuroticism) with Cultural intelligence. A significant reverse relationship was observed between neuroticism and Cultural intelligence. A significant difference was observed between coaches with A and B coaching degree, in comparison with C and D coaching degree in terms of cultural intelligence. No significant difference was observed between these two groups regarding personality traits. Our results show that some of the personality characteristics are crucial and related to a capability to function effectively in diverse settings.

Introduction: Diurnal preferences have been linked to personality but often with mixed results. The present study examines the relationships between sleep timing (chronotype), diurnal preferences and the Five-Factor Model of personality traits at the phenotypic and genetic level. Methods: Self- and informant-reports of the NEO Personality Inventory-3, self-reports of the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire, and DNA samples were available for 2,515 Estonian adults (Mage = 45.76 years; 59% females). Genetic correlations were obtained through summary statistics of genome-wide association studies. Results: Results showed that higher Conscientiousness and lower Openness to Experience were significant predictors of earlier chronotype. At the level of facets, we found that more straightforward (A2) and excitement-seeking (E5), yet less self-disciplined (C5) people were more likely to have later chronotypes. The nuance-level Polypersonality score was correlated with chronotype at r = .28 (p &lt; .001). Conscientiousness and Openness were genetically related with diurnal preferences. The polygenic score for morningness-eveningness significantly predicted the Polypersonality score. Conclusion: Phenotypic measures of chronotype and personality showed significant associations at all three of levels of the personality hierarchy. Our findings indicate that the relationship between personality and morningness-eveningness is partly due to genetic factors. Future studies are necessary to further refine the relationship.

The paper presents the preliminary results of testing the relationship of tolerance of uncertainty, intolerance of uncertainty and interpersonal intolerance of uncertainty and personality traits on a sample of 87 people. A review of foreign studies on the relationship between these constructs is given. Revised NEO Personality Inventory [Orel, Senin, 2004] and the New Questionnaire of Tolerance of Uncertainty [Kornilova, 2010] was used in order to test the relationship between personality traits and tolerance of uncertainty, intolerance of uncertainty and interpersonal intolerance of uncertainty.
