<p>The work studied the assessment of online education problems during the COVID-19 pandemic by the first year master’s students. It was hypothesized that there are two types of problems. The first type is the problems associated with the difficulties of online communication between the participants of the educational process. The second type is the problems associated with the technical difficulties of participating in online education. The results of factor analysis show that masters clearly distinguish between the content-related (online communication) and formal (technical problems) sides of the organization of online education. It was found that those masters’ students who do not work now or do not have work experience in the specialty for which they are studying generally perceive the presence of technical problems and Internet disruptions as difficulties in implementing online education more significantly.</p>

This study analyzes the perception of master’s students of the non-language department of the academic English course taught synchronously in the classroom and through Microsoft Teams, and asynchronously on the Moodle platform, and provides some observations on the negative and positive reactions of students to the course of study. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that despite the obvious difficulties in the process of digital transformation of education during the last year and dissatisfaction with the process on the part of both students and teachers, there are certain advantages in new teaching models that combine classroom forms and synchronous online forms of the educational process. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through a survey of students. Quantitative results showed that students had a negative attitude to some aspects of online education (technical problems, time management, concentration and lack of social interaction) and at the same time a positive attitude to some elements of hybrid learning (learning autonomy, learning pace, collaboration). Qualitative data revealed some suggestions for improving the quality of learning and teaching of the course. The results of this study will be of interest to teachers of English in higher education institutions for comparison with their methods and learning outcomes, for improving interaction with students, and for developing effective long-term strategies for synchronous and asynchronous online support of foreign language courses.

The relevance of the study is due to the contradiction between the massive transition of Russian universities to a distance learning format and the insufficient readiness of participants in the educational process in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation with distance education before the pandemic was analyzed and the prerequisites for the emergence of problems and difficulties in the transition to online education were identified. An analysis of the difficulties faced by teachers and students of Russian higher educational institutions enabled to identify objective and subjective factors of their occurrence, as well as to develop recommendations for the further continuation of distance learning in combination with the traditional learning format. The purpose of the study is to analyze modern work experience in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic using the example of working with students of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. The analysis of successes and problems is conducted; the contradictions between distance and traditional forms of education are shown. The main models of organizing the studies are considered, which imply traditional and remote formats of studying using distance educational technologies. The works of various researchers, both Russian and foreign, on the problem of distance learning, are also analyzed. As a result of the study, it was concluded that in the modern education system of Russian higher educational institutions, distance education can be considered as a complementary and reinforcing form of the already existing traditional (“face to face”) training format with its socio-pedagogical, organizational, and psychological-didactic potential. In the work, the methods of theoretical (analysis, synthesis, systematization, comparison) and empirical (study of literature, interview, questionnaire, observation) research were used in a comprehensive manner. The combination of forms of interaction in real and virtual space in learning in modern didactics should be considered as a general didactic principle of learning.

The article is devoted to the problem of distance education, namely, education and upbringing under pandemic conditions. The relevance of the use of new computer and information learning technologies has been demonstrated. The connection of information technologies with the “Z” generation has been outlined as the main education idea of the person of the future. The issue of the coronavirus epidemic, which forced the urgent restructuring of all spheres of people’s social life around the world, is addressed in the article. As a result, the problem of the global transition to distance learning under severe quarantine is becoming urgent. The author analyses domestic and foreign pedagogical experience of distance education. Among domestic authors, this problem was studied by O. Kuznetsova, E. Naumenko, O. Onishchenko. Actually, O. Kuznetsova highlights the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning. Foreign researches highlight the technical problems of online education, as well as the problems that lie beyond the purview of technology. These are the problems as follows: student’s ability to communicate and play is limited by the environment within the Internet. These elements are critical to students' ability to develop their emotional and social intelligence. Teachers try to deliver personalised instruction to students in a virtual setting, and the responsibility, instead, falls to parents who may not be up to the task. Many students’ dormitories do not promote learning. The purpose of our study was to analyse the conditions of distance learning according to the following criteria: organisational and methodological support, technical support, psychological difficulties in accordance with the example of Odessa National O. S. Popov Academy of Telecommunications (ONAT). Thus, the availability of normative documents and provision of remote content has been analysed. 80 teachers and 150 students used the survey method and revealed that firstly, which online resources teachers most often use during distance education and secondly, what technical and psychological difficulties the participants of the educational process face. The data were analysed and fixed in the table.

Background: (1) The COVID-19 pandemic has generated significant changes in teaching methods around the world, and the ideal of online education has become a reality. (2) Methods: A questionnaire was modified for this study in order to determine the following levels of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills: file creation, file management, the use of emails, the use of the internet, and online communication. In total, 360 students from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education (FSPE), University of Novi Sad, participated in the study. (3) Results: The results show that there are differences between the estimated level of ICT skills and the ICT skills used in online education, such that students estimate their level of ICT skills as being higher than is necessary for online education (p < 0.05). There is also a correlation between the satisfaction with online education and ICT skills, showing that students with higher ICT knowledge are more satisfied with online education (p < 0.05). There is another correlation between the satisfaction with online education and the frequency of ICT use—the more ICTs are included, the more satisfied the students will be (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: The results of this study can serve as a recommendation for the implementation of FSPE students’ training in ICT skills, as well as an important basis for the systematic creation, improvement, and sustainability of online education in universities.

Data from an empirical study aimed at identifying the difficulties faced by students in their transition to higher education, the overcoming of which is important for personal development, are presented in the article. The study participants (n=179) were asked to describe the difficulties of transition from school to University in the 1st year based on analysis of their autobiographical memory. The content analysis of texts allowed identifying the main themes and compiling a list of challenges, and then the frequency of occurrence of each of them was determined. According to the results, the most actual difficulties are the different aspects of integrating into the new social community due to sharp changes in the social environment during the transition from school to University. A big challenge is the need for self-organization in educational and everyday matters, planning and organizing your time. The third most frequently mentioned is learning difficulties, especially those related to mastering the material in the new educational environment. Problematic areas of adaptation to higher education that have not been previously reflected in the sources are the establishment of a common life in the dormitory, pressure from parents, the manifestation of their individuality, the increase in the length of classes and the pace of learning, romantic relationships and language barriers. The difficulties of the first examination session are much less frequently mentioned, and are more frequently mentioned when examining the current adaptation process. The results of the study can be used for the development and subsequent implementation of a system of practical measures aimed at helping students to adapt to the new environment and conditions. Such assistance to students in building a new way of life at a university, especially at an early stage of study, is necessary not only to improve the effectiveness of the educational process, but also to facilitate the processes of personal growth and development of students

Purpose This study aims to investigate the attributes of the online programme that are considered and compute their relative importance in the purchase decision. This study aims to identify the most lucrative bundling of these attributes and their levels that can be used by online education companies to craft their product design strategy to attract customers with the most attractive offering. Design/methodology/approach This research paper endeavours to identify the attributes of online education, which customers consider for making a purchase decision. Exploratory factor analysis followed by confirmatory factor analysis was used to identify the key attributes of online education programmes. This paper uses the conjoint analysis technique to identify the most preferred bundling of attributes, which online education companies can package to attract customers. Findings Based on various attributes and their respective levels, it is evident the most lucrative design for attracting customers to buy online education programmes is to provide certification from a reputed international university, which requires an investment to the tune of 3,000–5,000. The duration of four weeks with asynchronous pedagogy and access to course material vial uniform resource locator (URL) is a preferred feature. Access via a mobile application is more preferred over Web access. A phone application is known to be optimised, and most people are using mobile phones to access the internet. Online certification or degrees that are considered as valid employment qualifications were most preferred over other reasons. Originality/value There is a dearth of studies on massive open online courses (MOOCs) from a product design perspective. There is a gap in the context of the features to be included in the MOOCs package so that the customer can find more value in it, and the companies can benefit by expanding their customer base. The research question which this study endeavours to explore is what attributes consumers of MOOCs consider when making a purchase decision. This study will also find the relative importance of these attributes.
