A lack of communication, support, and information from parents on sexual issues are involved an inability to prevent or intervene in the sexual activity of adolescents. This study aimed to determine the effect of adolescent reproductive health education on premarital sexual behavior in Palembang, Indonesia. This study was an experimental design with pre and post-intervention. The 192 students were obtained based on the criteria of samples required. The result of bivariate analysis between the Chi-Square confounding variable and premarital sexual behavior after the intervention shows that there is a significant relationship between knowledge about sex, reproductive health, and attitudes with premarital sexual behavior. There is a significant relationship between control behavior and sexual behavior after performing the intervention (p= 0.00). The result of multivariate shows that there is a dominant variable that is the variable of knowledge about reproductive health (p= 0.00). This study suggested that information about adolescent reproductive health should be included in the curriculum, especially in Biology class.

Formal Reproductive Health Education and Premarital Sexual Intercourseamong Indonesian TeenagersAbstractThe second demographic transition will occur in Indonesia and be markedby sexual and reproductive revolution. Potential problems in this era are the increase of premarital sexual behavior, unwanted pregnancy, sexual transmitted infection and drug abuse. This study aimed to examine the influence of formal reproductive health education to delay premarital sexual intercourse among Indonesian teenagers and young adults. Cross sectional study analyzed as retrospective cohort used data of Indonesian Teenage Reproductive Health Survey in 2012 (10,980 men and 8,902 women). Effects of formal reproductive health education to delay sexual intercourse behavior was analyzed using kaplan meier curve, log-rank test, and chi square test, meanwhile multivariat analysis used logistic regression. All tests used confidence interval 95% and p value = 0.05. Results of survival analysis of abstinence committing sexual intercourse showed that teenagers who didn’t receive or only receive one of reproductive health education materials had bigger hazard ratio (respectively 1.55 (CI=1.32 – 1.82); 0.99 (CI=0.86 – 1.15) and 2.26 (CI=1.43 – 3.56)). Receiving complete information gave longer abstinence time. Drug abuse, smoking, alcohol, men, aged between 20 – 24 years old and poor were more likely to commit premarital sexual intercourse. Receipt of reproductive health information at formal education level may delay the occurrence of premarital sexual intercourse.

Free sex is sexual behavior by individuals before marriage which is common in adolescence. As a result of changes in adolescent sexual attitudes and behavior will increase adolescent sexual problems. The consequences that can occur from free sex are unprotected sexuality, venereal disease, mortality of young mothers and their babies, abortion and unwanted pregnancy. The incidence of childbirth as many as 219 occurred in Sleman in 2017 and there were 47 marriage dispensation agreements in 2018. Factors of knowledge about reproductive health are important factors that must be possessed by adolescents to prevent the occurrence of free sex. This study aims to determine the effect of reproductive health education on adolescent free sex knowledge. This study uses a type of pre experiment design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were teenagers in BPRSW as many as 30 people, with sampling using total sampling. Data collection techniques using the method of observation and questionnaires. Test validity in this study using product moment correlation and declared valid with the value of r count <r table (0.05). Reliability test using Cronbach's alpha obtained Cronbach's alpha value of 0.745 so it was declared reliable. Data analysis uses univariate and bivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis using paired T-test. The results of the study indicate that reproductive health education influences adolescent knowledge in BPRSW Yogyakarta, with a value of p = (0.048) <α (0.05). As many as 24 (80.0%) of respondents had good category knowledge after being given health education about free sex.

Introduction: Adolescence is a period of storms and stress; health problems that occur in adolescents are related to risky behavior, namely smoking, drinking alcohol, abuse of illegal drugs and having premarital sexual relations. The research objective was to determine the effect of reproductive health education on adolescent knowledge and attitudes about premarital sex. Methods: The research design used a quasi-experimental. The study population totalled 356 students. The sampling technique uses non-probability sampling: purposive sampling. A sample size of 188 respondents was obtained—reproductive health education implemented by video and leaflet. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests with a significant level of 0.05.Results: The results showed that in the video group, the knowledge level was p=0.000, and the attitude was p=0.000. The leaflet group showed a level of knowledge of p=0.000 and an attitude of p=0.000. The difference between the two groups was tested by using the Mann Whitney test. It was found that there was no difference in the effect of the video and leaflet methods on knowledge of p=0.219 and attitudes of p=0.469.Conclusion: Leaflets are effective for health education because they can be read individually and contain topics about premarital sex, which are more personal. The school must provide integrated sexual education with formal lessons that use many methods to increase students’ knowledge.
