Marketing Excellence: Nature, Measurement, and Investor Valuations

Marketing excellence is a foundational principle for the discipline that is gaining increasing attention among managers and investors. Despite this, the nature of marketing excellence and its effectiveness remain unclear. This research offers insight by addressing two questions: (1) How do managers understand and exercise marketing excellence? and (2) How do investors evaluate marketing excellence? Study 1 merges insights from 39 in-depth interviews with senior executives and secondary data from 150 firm strategies to find that marketing excellence is a strategy type focused on achieving organic growth by executing priorities related to the marketing ecosystem, end user, and marketing agility. Study 2 quantifies the impact of marketing excellence on firm value by using a machine learning algorithm and text analysis through an original dictionary to classify the text from 8,317 letters to shareholders in 1,727 U.S. firm annual reports. Calendar-time portfolio models reveal abnormal one-year returns of up to 8.58% for marketing excellence—returns that outpace those associated with market orientation and marketing capabilities. Findings offer guidance to managers, educators, and investors regarding how marketing excellence manifests—paving the way for the allocation of firm resources to ensure that marketing drives organic growth.

This research is aimed to analyze Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure toward the Firm Value.Dependent variable in this research was Firm Value related party tobins’q. Independent variables in thisresearch Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure, This research used secondary data analysis of financialstatements or annual reports of exclude financial company and bank at Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2014 -2016. By using purposive sampling method, the total amount of samples obtained in this research were 201from 67 companies. This research used data panel regression analysis method. The results of the analysis inthis research showed that Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure didn’t effect toward the firm value

Intangible assets, such as information, are becoming increasingly essential to companies. Intellectual capital is another term for knowledge assets. The aim of this study is to find empirical evidence of the influence of intellectual capital and intellectual capital disclosure on firm valuation, as well as to identify the types of disclosures made by the banking industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2015-2019. The data used in the analysis were secondary data from annual reports. A six-way numerical coding scheme determines the disclosure item index. With 36 disclosure objects, the disclosure categories are divided into three categories: structural capital, human capital, and external capital. Content analysis and multiple linear regression are two data analysis methods. The results of the analysis show that an average of 49.91 percent is expressed in the form of a narrative, 16.44 percent is in the form of a combination of qualitative and quantitative, 7.53 percent is in the form of numbers and 1.44 items are expressed in the form of monetary units (rupiah). Meanwhile, an average of 24.33 percent of items of disclosure were not disclosed. Intellectual capital disclosure has a positive impact on firm value, while intellectual capital has no impact. According to research, investors in the banking industry consider intellectual capital disclosure when making investments.

Aim of this research is to determine the effect of accounting conservatism and tax avoidance on firm value. The type of data used in this study is secondary data in the form of annual reports of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2013-2016 period. The number of samples is 48 manufacturing companies. The data analysis technique used is regression analysis. The results of the study show that conservatism has a positive effect on firm value, tax avoidance has a negative effect on firm value. While simultaneously conservatism and tax avoidance have a positive effect on firm value. Thus this study supports that accounting conservatism has a role as a function of monitoring the company's investment policies and one way to maintain the value of the company in limiting losses that may arise from poorly performing investment decisions. The company that conducts tax avoidance (has a smaller effective tax rate) is an effort made by management to reduce the company's tax burden and is able to minimize expenditure for tax purposes so that management looks good in the eyes of shareholders.

High firm value will increase the prosperity of shareholders. The higher the stock price, the higher the firm value could be. Generally investors will hand over its management to the professionals to achieve the company’s goal which is to increase the firm values. This study aims to examine the influence of institutional ownership, the competence of board of commissioners and the quality of auditor on firm values. The analyzed data is secondary data, taken from financial statements and annual reports of companies that listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2012-2015. The sample selection determined by using purposive sampling technique, 48 companies were acquired. Multiple linear regression techniques were used to analyze the data. The results showed that institutional ownership, the competence of board of commissioners and the quality of auditor have positive effects on firm values.

The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of intellectual capital on firm value through firm performance (profitability, productivity, market valuation and growth). Intellectual capital is measured by using a Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC™). Firm value is measured by Tobin's Q. The financial performance consists of Return on assets (ROA), Asset turn over (ATO), Market to Book Value (MB) and Earnings per Share (EPS). Data from this study was obtained from financial statements and annual reports of manufacturing companies that are taken from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sample of this study is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the year of 2011-2013 for 37 companies. The types of data used are secondary data in the form of annual reports by the manufacturing companies. Empirical analysis is conducted by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results of this study indicate that Intellectual capital has a significant effect on profitability, market valuation and growth. Intellectual capital does not significantly affect productivity and firm value. Market valuation significantly affects the firm value. Profitability, productivity and growth do not significantly affect firm value. Furthermore, Intellectual capital which is intervened by the firm performance has a positive effect on firm value.

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of asset management and debt management on the liquidity and profitability of SOEs listed on the Indonesia StockExchange for the period 2014-2017. This study use the object of research as 16 BUMNcompanies. The data source used is secondary data, data collection techniques in thisstudy are documentation of company performance reports on the Indonesia StockExchange and company annual reports. The results of the study show that therelationship between asset management and debt management is directly proportional.There is no significant impact of asset management on liquidity and profitability becausethe asset management on 2017 has increased while profitability and liquidity has fallenthis is due to the company's large operational costs financed by debt. Debt managementfor liquidity and profitability has an impact on decreasing liquidity and profitability whendebt management rises. The main objective of this study is to empirically examine the impact of leverage and certain firm-characteristics that are believed to have significant effects on the decision to use debt and on the value of the firm. The sample is composed of 48 companies listed in the Kuwait Stock Exchange (KSE) representing four different sectors. The study uses actual and historical panel data set obtained from the published annual reports of individual firms in addition to the publications of KSE. The study was accomplished using 8 years of data with a total of 239 observations representing the study period 2006-2013. The study uses descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple-regression analyses to examine the impact of explanatory variables on the value of the firm. The study findings lead to the conclusion that capital structure (leveraging) is the most influential factor on firm’s value. Business risk, previous year’s value (one-year lagged ROA), dividends payout ratio, size, growth opportunities and liquidity of the firm are found to have significant influence on the firm’s value in Model 1 (where ROA is used as a proxy for the value of the firm). In model 2 (i.e., where ROE is used as a proxy of the firm’s value), the findings reveal that capital structure (leveraging); firm’s size, growth opportunities and liquidity of the firm are significant influential of the firm’s value. The study is valuable to academicians, finance managers, policy makers and other stakeholders as it fills the gap of literature by providing up-to-date evidence of the impact of capital structure and other firm specific variables on the value of the firm in Kuwait.

This study aims to examine the influence of ownership structure on firm value mediated by efficiency capital structure. This research uses pecking order theory, agency theory, and stakeholder theory. The population used in this study are all companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) with the research period of 2016-2018. The method of determining the sample using non-random sampling i.e purposive sampling and uses secondary data in the form of annual reports and financial statements of the company. The analytical method used are path analysis and sobel test. The results showed that the efficiency of capital structure can fully mediate the effect of ownership structure on firm value.

Abstract: In the era of globalization, companies are developing into multinational companies that establish branches or subsidiaries in various countries. This globalization has given an impact to increase international transaction. These transactions could lead to transactions with related parties that shows an indication of transfer pricing. Along with the development of globalization, factors affecting transfer pricing are not only derived from taxes, but also from other factors. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of tax, exchange rate, tunneling incentive, and firm size on transfer pricing. This research used secondary data in the form of annual reports published on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Population of this research was manufacturing companies for years 2014-2018 and by purposive sampling method, a sample of 19 manufacturing companies was obtained. Analysis technique used on this research was a multiple linear regression using SPSS 23 application. The result shows that tax, tunneling incentive, firm size have significant effect on transfer pricing, while exchange rate does not take any effect on transfer pricing. Adjusted R2 determination coefficient of 32,8% shows transfer pricing is affected by tax, exchange rate, tunneling incentive, and firm size, while remaining 67,2% is affected by other variables outside research model. The paper examines the impact of working capital management on corporate profitability through the periods of 2008 to 2012. The total of seven firms listed on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange was studied, using secondary data generated from annual reports and accounts of the sampled companies and the Nigerian Stock Exchange Fact book. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and GLS regression analysis using STATA 11. The study finds a positive relationship among Average Collection Period (ACP), Current Ratio (CR) and the size of the firm (LOGSIZE) with Profitability and a negative relationship with Inventory Turnover Period (ITP), Average Payment Period (APP). The paper therefore recommends that cash collected should be re-invested into short-term investment to generate profits and fund left idle in the cash or excessive liquidity is costly and do not lead to profitability.
