Using data on low-to-moderate-income households in the US Community Advantage Program survey, this paper examines homeownership, neighbourhood characteristics and the interaction between the two on the positive behaviour of children from low- and moderate-income households. To control for potential selection bias and endogeneity problems, propensity score weighting and hierarchical regression are employed to tease apart the effects of homeownership, neighbourhood characteristics and their interaction on child positive behaviour. No effect is found of homeownership or neighbourhood characteristics on children’s positive behaviour when the interaction between the two is not included in the model. However, homeownership was found to have a stronger positive effect on children’s positive behaviour as neighbourhood population density increases and, at approximately 4000 persons per square mile (approximate population density of San Diego, CA), homeownership has a significant positive effect on children’s overall scores on the positive behaviour scale.

The propensity score (PS) weighting method is an analytic technique that has been applied in multiple fields for a number of purposes. Here, we discuss two common applications, which are (1) to correct for selection bias and (2) to adjust for confounding variables when estimating the effect of an exposure variable on the outcome of interest.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of employees in the production department at PT. INKOASKU, Karawang, West Java. This study analyzes the effect of motivation on employee performance. This study using the variable job satisfaction as an intervening variable. The population in this study are 80 production employees of PT INKOASKU Karawang, West Java. The sampling technique used is the model non- probability sampling by census method. This study uses a questionnaire data collection method that is distributed to all employees of the production section, amounting to 80 people. The result was that 68 questioners were filled by the productions employees of PT INKOASKU Karawang, West Java, the respondent rate was 85%. The analytical tool used is Hierarchical Regression Analysis. The result is that work motivation does not affect employee performance, work motivation has a significant positive effect on employee performance, job satisfaction has a significant positive effect on employee performance and job satisfaction acts as a mediating variable between work motivation and employee performance.

PurposeThis paper empirically investigates how cultural variations in individualism and tightness affected the containment of COVID-19 using data from 54 nations during a 30-day period of government intervention.Design/methodology/approachThe authors utilized the hierarchical regression approach to check the effects of three cultural variables – the individualism measure, taken from Hofstede’s six-dimension national culture index, and the measure of cultural tightness, based on the three tightness–looseness indexes calculated by Irem Uz (2015) and their interaction – on the changes in the prevalence rate (ΔPR) and crude mortality rate (ΔCMR) and case fatality rate (CFR) while controlling for the stringency of government responses to COVID-19, median age and population density.FindingsSignificant relationships were found between cultural variables and national performance in slowing the spread of the coronavirus, measured by ΔPR, ΔCMR and CFR. After controlling for the stringency of government responses, median age and population density, the authors found that cultural tightness and individualism as well as their interactions remain to be pivotal. Loose and individualistic cultures led to faster increases in PR and CMR and higher CFR. A four-quadrant conceptual framework is developed to categorize and discuss the national differences.Originality/valueThe paper integrated two constructs – cultural tightness–looseness and individualism–collectivism – to form a theoretical lens to guide the authors’ analyses while using the real-time COVID-19 data as a natural experiment for theorizing and testing. This study’s findings have significant policy implications in government responses, strategic planning, cultural adaptability and policy implementations for the world’s continuous battle against the pandemic.

We investigated the influence of follower–leader secure attachment (FLSA) on employee creativity from an attachment theory perspective. Data were collected from 263 employees of industries in China and their direct leaders, and analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. Results revealed that follower–leader secure attachment (FLSA) had a significant positive effect on followers' creativity. Additionally, the effect of FLSA on followers' creativity was mediated by their harmonious passion. Finally, environmental uncertainty moderated the relationship between FLSA and harmonious passion; specifically, FLSA had a stronger impact on followers' harmonious passion when environmental uncertainty was high. We have contributed to greater understanding of employee creativity and attachment in the workplace. Implications for future directions are discussed.

To gain a competitive advantage, employee engagement is indispensable. Therefore, an effective talent management system is needed in order to increase employee engagement. The aim of this research at knowing talent management at the XYZ Foundation in Madiun City and analyzing the impact of talent management on employee engagement and employee retention. This study also aims to analyze the effect of employee engagement as mediating the relationship of talent management with employee retention. The number of respondents in the study were 69 employees. Data gathered were initially analysed using SPSS version 22.0. From the descriptive analysis, it was found that: 1) employee response to talent management at XYZ Foundation as a whole was high; 2) work engagement on XYZ Foundation was high; 3) employee retention on XYZ Foundation was very high. The results of the hierarchical regression and path analysis indicated that: 1)talent management had a significant positive effect on work engagement; 2) talent management had a significant positive effect on employee retention; 3)work engagement had a significant positive effect on employee retention; 4) work engagement acts as a partial mediation of the influence of talent management on employee retention.

The present study aims to explore the role of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) concept with a combination of an effectuation concept. First, it examined the effect of ESE on resources acquisition in a new venture in an emerging country’s context. Second, it attempted to use effectuation principles, namely, affordable loss, set of means, and precommitment as mediators in a relationship between ESE and resource acquisition in a new venture. A sample of 462 agro-processing entrepreneurs is explicitly surveyed and interviewed. The hierarchical regression and structural equation model were employed to analyze the data. Results showed that an ESE has a significant positive effect on the venture’s resources acquisition ability. Moreover, results showed that the effect of ESE in resource acquisition is manifested through affordable loss, precommitment, and set of means principles. Theoretically, this study extends the knowledge on the mediating role of effectuation principles using ESE in pursuing essential venture functions such as resources acquisition.

Having personal initiative means that workers are self-starting, pro-active, and persistent in pursuing their goals. This study examined whether personal initiative contributed to the prediction of two aspects of well-being (emotional exhaustion and learning motivation). Personal initiative was expected to have direct effects on well-being as well as moderate the effects of relevant work characteristics such as job demands and control. As expected, stepwise hierarchical regression using data from 834 Dutch telecommunications workers yielded positive main effects of personal initiative on both aspects of well-being. Moreover, personal initiative moderated the relationship between control and learning motivation: the positive effect of control on learning motivation was stronger for workers with high initiative. These findings support the hypothesis that personal initiative is a predictor of well-being.

Nurse performance shows the magnitude of the contribution made by nurses to hospital and reflects the performance of a hospital because patient will often relates and meets the nurse. One factor that affect the nurses performance is organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). OCB is extra-role behavior that nurses are willing to do tasks outside of their job discription and the big five personality is one of the factors that significantly influence the OCB. This study aims to examine the direct and indirect influence of the big five personality to the performance of nurses at Santa Clara Madiun Hospital through OCB as intervening variable. The sampel of this research were all nurses at Santa Clara Madiun Hospital. Data collection instruments using questionnaires. Data analysis techniques in this study included descriptive statistics, test data quality, classical assumption, hierarchical regression analysis, and path analysis using SPSS 17.0. The result showed that the big five personality significant positive effect on nurses performance, the big five personality significant positive effect on OCB, and OCB significant positive effect on the nurses performance. OCB has a full mediation effect to influence of the big five personality to the nurses performance
