Three studies examine how organizational mindset —whether a company is perceived to view talent as fixed or malleable—functions as a core belief that predicts organizational culture and employees’ trust and commitment. In Study 1, Fortune 500 company mission statements were coded for mindset language and paired with Glassdoor culture data. Workers perceived a more negative culture at fixed (vs. growth) mindset companies. Study 2 experimentally manipulated organizational mindset and found that people evaluated fixed (vs. growth) mindset companies as having more negative culture norms and forecasted that employees would experience less trust and commitment. Study 3 confirmed these findings from more than 500 employees of seven Fortune 1000 companies. Employees who perceived their organization to endorse a fixed (vs. growth) mindset reported that their company’s culture was characterized by less collaboration, innovation, and integrity, and they reported less organizational trust and commitment. These findings suggest that organizational mindset shapes organizational culture.

This article applies corpus linguistics to research the ideologies of Fortune 500 corporations as institutionalised through those corporations’ mission statements. The methodology used is both qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative methodology relates to the semantics of corporations’ ideologies. More precisely, it explains the ideas, beliefs, meanings, and concepts found in corporations’ mission statements, the relation between those ideas, beliefs, meanings, and concepts and society, and what makes those ideas, beliefs, meanings, and concepts meaningful. Quantitative methodology relates to the description and comparison of corporations’ ideologies based on a corpus-driven approach and computational text analysis of a corpus of corporations’ mission statements. Ultimately, through its ideology a corporation creates a symbolic universe: “a matrix of all social and individual meanings” that determines the significance of the corporation and its stakeholders.

In the continuity of a company, there is a pattern of behavior that is carried out continuously by its members. Then formed a culture that is characteristic of the company. Each leader also has his own leadership style in operating the company. With a good organizational culture and leadership style, it can form a comfortable work environment and can support the success of the company. The formulation of the problem that will be examined is how is the organizational culture and leadership style in the Leader Forum Community? The method used in this research is a qualitative ethnographic approach, studied with organizational communication theory, organizational culture, and leadership style. The purpose of this research is to describe and find out the organizational culture and leadership style in the Community of Leaders Forum. The object to be studied is the organizational culture and leadership styles used in the Leader Community Forum. Based on the results of research related to organizational culture and leadership styles in the Community of Wadah Leaders, it can be concluded that the value of Family Impact Teamwork continues to be emphasized to members as a reference for acting in the community. And leaders apply a combination of charismatic, transactional, transformational, and visionary leadership styles in Komunitas Wadah Pemimpin.Dalam keberlangsungan suatu perusahaan terdapat pola perilaku yang dilakukan secara terus menerus oleh anggotanya. Kemudian terbentuk sebuah budaya yang menjadi ciri khas dalam perusahaan tersebut. Setiap pemimpin juga memiliki gaya kepemimpinan tersendiri dalam mengoperasikan perusahaan. Dengan adanya budaya organisasi dan gaya kepemimpinan yang baik dapat membentuk lingkungan kerja yang nyaman serta dapat medukung keberhasilan perusahaan. Rumusan masalah yang ditelaah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana budaya organisasi dan gaya kepemimpinan dalam Komunitas Wadah Pemimpin? Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode etnografi dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini dikaji dengan teori komunikasi organisasi, budaya organisasi, serta gaya kepemimpinan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menggambarkan dan mengetahui budaya organisasi dan gaya kepemimpinan dalam Komunitas Wadah Pemimpin. Objek yang diteliti adalah budaya organisasi serta gaya kepemimpinan yang digunakan dalam Komunitas Wadah Pemimpin. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa nilai Family Impact Teamwork terus ditekankan kepada anggota sebagai acuan untuk bertindak dalam komunitas. Pemimpin menerapkan kombinasi dari gaya kepemimpinan kharismatik, transaksional, transformasional, dan visioner dalam Komunitas Wadah Pemimpin.

PT Bandar Abadi Shipyard is a company engaged in manufacturing and the company is working to improve the quality and quantity of production in the ship building and ship repair. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of organizational culture variables and work motivation on employee performance at PT. Bandar Abadi Shipyard. The study population was 50 people and the samples used are saturated sampling technique. This study using multiple linear regression data analysis with the help of computer software SPSS version 20.00. Analysis of the data used to test the validity and reliability levels, classical assumptions and hypothesis testing. Results from this study indicate that the organizational culture (X1), and work motivation (X2) positive and significant impact on employee performance (Y) and simultaneously the organizational culture (X1) and work motivation (X2) positive and significant impact on employee performance (Y)

This study aims to show the influence of Organizational Culture and Procedural Justice on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (Study on IT Companies In Special Region of Yogyakarta) which is focused on the high low organizational culture of a company. Samples in this study as many as 9 IT companies with convenience sampling method. The population in this study is all IT companies in Isitimewa Area of Yogyakarta. The data type in this study is primary data. The data source in this study is the results of surveys, interviews and filling out questionnaires from employees of IT companies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta who became research samples. The results of this study show that organizational culture and procedural justice have a significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior in IT companies in Dareah Istimewa Yogyakarta. But for companies whose organizational culture is low organizational culture has no effect on organizational citizenship behavior in IT companies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Objective: In private enterprise, the Mission Statement (MS) of a company is the compass that shows the direction the organization is heading and is a guide in major decisions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mission statements of all United States (US) Dental Schools for common themes and to understand how these themes align with current issues in dentistry. Methods: Two reviewers manually searched every United States (US) Dental School website to identify the mission statement of each school and four investigators reviewed the mission statements, identified and listed themes. A qualitative analytical approach was used, and recurring themes were identified. IRB Exemption was provided (HUM00175583Â) by the University of Michigan School of Medicine’s committee on human studies. Results: In this study, 68 dental schools were evaluated, and 18 different themes were identified. The mean number of themes per school was 2 and the median was 4. The minimum number of themes among dental schools was 1 and the maximum was 11 themes. The findings indicated that the most recurring theme in dental school mission statements was research and dissemination of knowledge (76.11%) and the least recurring themes, which are some of the most pressing issues in dentistry were social justice (4.47%), public health (7.46%), and health disparities (8.95%). Conclusion: Missions statements are just as important in schools as they are in business. Therefore, dental schools should consider periodically revising their mission statements to coincide with the demands of current oral health needs.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to extend the scope of social exchange theory (SET) to explore employee engagement and test its application in the context of Indian power companies. The study also attempts to explore the antecedents of employee engagement. This study includes organizational culture and three trusts, that is co-worker trust, supervisor trust and organizational trust whose presence in the organization influences employee engagement.Design/methodology/approachThe study includes a sample of 812 executives who represent three major functions of the Indian power sector, that is power generation, power transmission and power distribution. The relationships between constructs are evaluated using structural equation modeling.FindingsThe findings of this study indicate that four resources in the organization influence employee engagement in different ways. Three constructs representing co-worker trust, supervisor trust and organizational trust partially mediate the relation between organizational culture and employee engagement. This study also compares the engagement levels of the employees from three power companies.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is focused on companies operating in only the government sector.Practical implicationsEnsuring engagement from employees for the critical power sector is expected to support the development of the HR practices in this sector. Identification of sector-specific resources is expected to aid both employees and policymakers from the organization.Social implicationsThis study assists the policy makers in the organization by showcasing the importance of organizational culture, interpersonal and organizational trusts and their impact on employee engagement.Originality/valueResource theory explains why certain resources in the workplace are exchanged for employee engagement. This study extends theories of engagement as well as SET and examines their application as employee engagement in the context of executives from Indian power companies. This understanding will aid the practitioners and researchers to further their understanding of employee engagement.

A mission statement is an important instrument for strategic management for an enterprise. How to establish a mission statement and how to leverage its roles in conveying the vision of and leading the long-term and sustainable growth of the enterprise are critical in strategic planning for enterprises. The current study adopted a corpus analysis method and built a corpus of mission statements by selecting the mission statements of 100 companies each from Chinese and American companies in the 2017 Fortune 500 companies. Through the analysis of high-frequency words obtained from the corpus based on the appraisal system approach from Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), we attempted to identify the characteristics discerning the mission statements of Chinese and American companies. Our results showed that (1) the distribution patterns of evaluation resource words of Chinese and American companies are similar; (2) Chinese companies highlight innovation, society and development of the enterprise, while American companies emphasize customers and product or service; (3) both Chinese and American enterprises highly concern survival, philosophy and public image; (4) American companies pay more attention to stakeholders, especially primary social stakeholders, while Chinese companies’ attention is inclined to secondary social stakeholders. It is concluded that the mission statements of Chinese companies are society oriented and emphasize the social roles of an organization, showing a corporate pertinence to a lesser extent, while American companies’ mission statements pay more attention to customers and partner relationships, which can be seen as the American companies’ market and individual orientation.

Examines the lease vs. buy decision for investments in technology. Addresses pivotal investment decision issues such as varying the length of the lease, the useful life of the equipment, and alignment with the company's overall financial strategy. The scenario is for a real financial services firm that has been disguised for confidentiality reasons. Presents an investment decision: should a company buy or lease technology with a relatively short useful life? The new controller at AMG, a Fortune 500 financial services firm, has been tasked with determining how to finance the acquisition of 7,542 new PCs to be rolled out over the next 12 months. This is a $6.7 million investment decision and the rollout schedule adds significant complexity to the solution. The controller must choose between buying or leasing the computers over 24- or 36-month time frames. Provides a framework for analyzing similar investment decisions. The key learning point is that leasing information technology can be cheaper than buying. This is contradictory to a car lease, which may be familiar from everyday experience. A new car has a potentially long useful life and can retain significant value after several years, hence, intuition is that buying should always be cheaper than leasing. Shows that this is not the case for information technology. Teaches the correct application of the mid-quarter convention within MACRS depreciation for technology, and the implications of operating vs. capital leases and off-balance-sheet financing. In the process, introduces the four tests for a capital lease. Finally, shows how creative analysis techniques can be used to simplify complex decisions. These techniques aid in arriving at a conclusion faster and with less effort.To illustrate the fundamentals of lease vs. buy decisions in technology and how they differ from the typical capital equipment lease vs. buy decision. Topics covered include MACRS depreciation and off-balance-sheet financing for a complex leasing scenario staggered in time across multiple business units.
