From 1992 we began to explore supernormal education of mathematics in gifted and talented children selected from the first and second grades of several primary schools and it seems a great success. We are the first to carry out such activity in the Beijing area and have compiled and published four textbooks of teaching materials which have been adopted by many schools. It is intended in this paper to provide a briefing on the status of offering such education. The problems encountered in the supernormal education and the teaching experiences accumulated are discussed on the following issues: Start-up with audio-visual geometry Stress on combination of shape and number Launching our mathematics activities Stimulation of ability of imagination Application of the discovery method Induction-find the University regularity Mathematics-search out model Modernization on mathematics education We firmly believe that all the above issues are extremely important to the supernormal education of mathematics in gifted and talented children from 6–8 years.

Abstract Artificial vision for the blind may be feasible by interfacing a television camera with electronics stimulating the visual cortex. The status of a major collaborative effort involving the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, the University of Utah, and the University of Western Ontario is reviewed. Results have been very encouraging, although much work remains to be done.

The article presents an analysis of the status of the Ukrainian language studies at the University of Bucharest from a diachronic and synchronic perspective. The Romanian-Ukrainian relations (political, administrative or economic), were founded and developed on the basis and in the context of cultural relations. For more than three decades, in Romania, international scientific events have been organized by the academic institutions in the partnership with governmental and local ones in order to maintain the Romanian-Ukrainian relations. Education has always been a basic component of people’s culture, regardless of the social world order or the level of education: primary school, secondary school, high school or university, the latter being the topic of our paper. Apart from the University of Bucharest, which has a rich tradition, in Romania, the undergraduate studies of the Ukrainian language and literature together with modern language and literature study (the Romanian language and literature) are currently provided by the “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, within the Department of the Romanian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Letters and Communication Sciences, as well as by the “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, within the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures of the Faculty of Letters. Ukrainian studies at the university level in Romania have emerged since the very foundation of the Romanian philology in the 19th century, more precisely since forming the Slavic studies as a scientific discipline. Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, one of the greatest personalities in the Romanian culture, (linguist, folklorist and philologist) played a big role in this sense, studying the way Romanian history had been reflected in the Ukrainian folklore. The Ukrainian folklore and the works of Taras Shevchenko were studied by the translator Grigore N. Lazu and the literary critic Constantin Dobrogeanu-Gherea. P. P. Panaitescu, Șt. Ciobanu, Zamfir Arbore and other researchers also wrote about the Romanian-Ukrainian literary relations. In the institutional framework, i.e. in primary schools, secondary schools, high schools and universities, the Ukrainian language and literature had been taught since 1948, after the Education Reform. The Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature of the University of Bucharest was established within the Department of Slavic Languages of the Faculty of Philology in 1952. Since founding of the Department by Professor Constantin Drapaca, such specialists as Nicolae Pavliuc, Magdalena Laszlo-Kuțiuk, Stelian Gruia, Dan Horia Mazilu, Ioan Rebușapcă, Micola Corsiuc, Roman Petrașuc, Maria Hoșciuc and Aliona Bivolaru made their contribution into promoting and increasing the prestige of the Ukrainian studies in Romania, as well as to strengthening relations between Romania and Ukraine.

A point has been reached in this discussion of musical talent and its identification where some concrete questions must be answered. We have examined perspectives of talent across fields and synthesized a simple set of musical talent criteria. Will teachers and musicians agree that these criteria are valid indicators of talent in students they teach on a daily basis? What must be added to define this criteria further? We recognize the need to identify talented students in music; however, we have yet to find an effective procedure to carry out this identification. What is the best way to unveil potential as well as demonstrated talent in a variety of school settings? The research discussed in this chapter sought to answer these pressing questions. This personal quest began with an analysis of data from the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRC G/T) at the University of Virginia, augmented by data from different specialized schools. This analysis provided a look at the status quo of what criteria and procedures were currently being used in schools across the country. A survey containing criteria and procedures drawn from this analysis was sent to musicians, teachers, researchers, and specialists across the music and gifted fields in over 15 states. My goal was to see which criteria were deemed “absolutely essential” by people who work with talented music students. In addition, what procedures are currently being used and what types of activities will effectively reveal musical talent? The survey also sought opinions about what performance criteria were important to consider on assessment forms. Quantitative results created a list of criteria and procedures that showed their degree of importance according to the mean of the survey rating scales. Numbers on paper provide quantitative results. However, discussions with experts across the music and gifted fields could allow clarification of ideas, substantive qualitative input, and brainstorming of possible procedures for identification that all seem invaluable for answering questions concerning musical talent. Therefore, this research concluded with a set of interviews of experts across the music and gifted fields of education, research, performance, and psychology to gather this vital information.

The author sets forth the status of digitisation of Polish schools in the light of the most extensive Polish digitisation survey: the 2017 Digital Diagnosis. The author primarily discusses the conclusions from studies pertaining to the status of digitisation of the Polish schools in the context of implementation of the STEAM model as a concept for developing competence of tomorrow. Results of studies conducted in June 2017 among pupils, parents and teachers are presented. The study was prepared and conducted by a team of researchers/academic employees of the Faculty of Education at the University of Warsaw in cooperation with PCG Edukacja under the supervision of the author of this paper. The study encompassed 100,129 respondents from primary schools, middle schools, high schools, technical schools and vocational schools from all provinces in Poland. This study explored the underlying processes associated with the policy of increasing qualified physical education teachers (QPETs) in Singapore primary schools. Data were collected from the National Archives of Singapore, Newslink, NewpaperSG and documents. An ‘archaeological analysis’ by Foucault (1972) was used to trace the discursive conditions which enabled and facilitated the policy. Three distinct elements were borrowed from ‘The Archaeology of Knowledge and the Discourse on Language’, namely: the status – as reflected in the positions of individuals influencing the PE policies and initiatives; the institutional sites – as in the locations of the decisions being exercised, and; the situation – identified by the key events leading to the decision to increase QPETs in primary schools. The conclusions based on the analysis of these elements offer a clearer understanding of the various contributions to the adoption of the policy and serve to provide an insightful lens to policymakers who might seek to redesign the future shape of Physical Education.

Проведен сравнительный анализ отечественных и зарубежных стартапов, где инновационные компании стали опорой экономики. Проанализирована статистика по состоянию стартапов России в настоящее время. Авторами отмечены главные предпосылки, которые ведут стартапы к провалу. Особое внимание уделено современным возможностям их финансирования. В статье описаны такие технологии финансирования как венчурное инвестирование, спонсирование бизнес-ангелами, государственная поддержка инновационных компаний, многоаспектная помощь бизнес-инкубаторов. Учтены преимущества и пробелы каждой из приведенных форм. This article discusses the features of the formation of Russian start-up companies, key development problems and ways to solve them. A comparative analysis of domestic and foreign startups, where innovative companies have become the backbone of the economy. Analyzed statistics on the status of startups in Russia at the present time. The authors noted the main prerequisites that lead startups to failure. Particular attention is paid to the modern possibilities of their financing. The authors described such financing technologies as venture investment, sponsorship by business angels, government support for innovative companies, multidimensional assistance from business incubators. Take into account the advantages and gaps of each of these forms.

With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), many kinds of wireless signals (e.g., Wi-Fi, LoRa, RFID) are filling our living and working spaces nowadays. Beyond communication, wireless signals can sense the status of surrounding objects, known as wireless sensing , with their reflection, scattering, and refraction while propagating in space. In the last decade, many sophisticated wireless sensing techniques and systems were widely studied for various applications (e.g., gesture recognition, localization, and object imaging). Recently, deep Artificial Intelligence (AI), also known as Deep Learning (DL), has shown great success in computer vision. And some works have initially proved that deep AI can benefit wireless sensing as well, leading to a brand-new step toward ubiquitous sensing. In this survey, we focus on the evolution of wireless sensing enhanced by deep AI techniques. We first present a general workflow of Wireless Sensing Systems (WSSs) which consists of signal pre-processing, high-level feature, and sensing model formulation. For each module, existing deep AI-based techniques are summarized, further compared with traditional approaches. Then, we provide a view of issues and challenges induced by combining deep AI and wireless sensing together. Finally, we discuss the future trends of deep AI to enable ubiquitous wireless sensing.

Using lactation in mice as a model, we sought to determine whether ceilings on sustained energy expenditure reside in the capacities of energy-acquiring and input organs (such as the intestine) or of energy-expending and output organs (such as the mammary glands). To distinguish between these possibilities experimentally, we surgically varied the teat number of lactating mother mice while simultaneously varying their litter size. The energy burden on each teat (i.e. the pup/teat ratio) could thus be varied independently of the energy burden (i.e. litter size) on the mother herself or on her intestine. At each teat number, pup mass proved to be maximal at intermediate litter sizes. At a given pup/teat ratio, mothers with five teats weaned pups no larger than the pups of normal (10-teat) mothers, even though the total energy burden on the former mothers was only half as large. Mothers with only two teats could not wean any pups. Litter size controlled maternal food intake, which in turn controlled intestinal mass and nutrient uptake capacity. Disproportionately high food intake for the smallest litters appears to reflect capital start-up costs of lactation. Pup mass is evidently limited by inadequate suckling stimulation of mammary glands.
