Objective This study investigated the inhibitory effect of baicalin on orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption in rats. Methods Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups of 15 rats each. Fifty grams of force was used to establish an orthodontic tooth movement model. Baicalin (40 mg/kg) was locally injected into rats in the baicalin group at 3-day intervals; concurrently, normal saline was injected into rats in the negative control group. On the 21st day after orthodontic treatment, the tooth movement distance and root resorption area ratio were measured. Histomorphology changes were observed by hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry. Results There was no significant difference in tooth movement distance between groups. The root resorption area ratio was significantly lower in the baicalin group than in the negative control group. Runx-2 expression was significantly higher in the baicalin group than in the negative control group, while tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression was significantly lower in the baicalin group than in the negative control group. Conclusions Baicalin inhibits orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption by enhancing the expression of Runx-2 and reducing the expression of TNF-α, but does not affect tooth movement distance.

Introduction. Knowledge about the effects of medications, vitamins, and various supplements on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is imperative for orthodontists. This study aimed to assess the effect of methotrexate (MTX) injection on OTM in rats. Materials and Methods. Twenty-eight male Wistar rats were randomized into four groups (n = 7). The first molar and central incisor were connected using a nickel-titanium (NiTi) coil spring with a 50 g load in each rat. The two experimental groups received 0.75 mg/kg and 1.5 mg/kg MTX, respectively, intraperitoneally for 21 days. The negative control group did not receive any injection and did not undergo orthodontic treatment. The positive control group underwent orthodontic treatment and received 0.9% saline (NaCl) injections for 21 days. All rats were sacrificed with chloroform inhalation after 21 days; their maxilla was resected, and the mean number of Howship’s lacunae, blood vessels, osteoclasts, and resorption lacunae was counted. The reduction in bone volume (bone volume to total volume ratio (BV/TV)) at the site of the maxillary molar was quantified by microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). Results. OTM, the number of osteoclasts, and the number of blood vessels significantly increased in rats treated with MTX ( P < 0.05 ). However, the increase in the number of Howship’s lacunae and resorption lacunae was not significant ( P > 0.05 ). Lower BV/TV in the MTX groups was in agreement with the increased number of osteoclasts. Conclusion. Injection of MTX can significantly increase OTM and decrease root resorption in rats.

Abstract Objective: To test the hypothesis that the administration of aspirin, acetaminophen, meloxicam, celecoxib, and prednisolone have no effect on root resorption and tooth movement. Materials and Methods: A mesial force of 50 g was applied to the left maxillary first molars of sixty 10-week-old male Wistar rats using nickel titanium closed coil springs attached to the cervical area of the incisors. The rats were randomly divided into 12 groups of 5 each. High and low doses of aspirin, acetaminophen, meloxicam, celecoxib, and prednisolone were administered via drinking water for 2 weeks. The experimental control group had tooth movement but received no drug. The negative control group received neither tooth movement nor drugs. The amount of tooth movement was measured on digitized lateral cephalometric radiographs. Rats were sacrificed after 2 weeks. Mesial and distal roots (distobuccal and distopalatal) were examined using scanning electron and three-dimensional (3D) scanning laser microscopes. The surface area, depth, volume, and roughness of the root resorption craters were measured. Results: When compared with experimental control rats, only prednisolone- and high-dose celecoxib-treated groups showed significantly less root resorption and less tooth movement. Although low dose celecoxib-treated group significantly decreased the tooth movement, root resorption was similar to the control group. Furthermore, resorption craters showed a smoother surface in the prednisolone-treated rats. Conclusions: The hypothesis was rejected. Administration of prednisolone and high-dose celecoxib reduces root resorption and interferes with tooth movement in rats. Both drugs may interfere in the arachidonic acid cascade depending on dose thresholds.

<p><strong><em>Background:</em></strong><em> Orthodontic tooth movement is a </em><em>interaction prosess</em><em> of resorption and deposition of bone remodeling. Orthodontic tooth movement by mechanical strength causes changes in alveolar bone. Osteocyte is an essential cell to respond bone remodelling. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy affects production of osteocyte because it can release Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Nitrid Oxide (NO).  <strong>Purpose: </strong>To determine the difference number  of osteocyte in pressure and tension area during tooth movement by adjuvant of Hyperbaric Oxygen 2,4 ATA during 7 days starting on day 8 to day 14. <strong>Materials and Methods</strong>: This research used Completery Randomized Control Group Post Test Only Design. 36 cavia cobaya (male)  were divided into 3 groups randomly : the negative control groups, positive control group, and treatment group. Preparat staining used Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) and calculated on microscop 1000x with 20 field of view. Data analyses used one way ANOVA and LSD test then compared each area by using paired T test. <strong>Result:</strong> The data showed that the treatment group (P=10,67) tension area has the highest number of osteocyte than  negative control group (K-=3,67), positive control (K+=7,42). Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate if hyperhomocysteinaemia is a contributive risk factor for the pathogenesis and the activity of Behçet's disease (BD).Design and Methods. Fifty four patients fullfiling the criteria of the International Study Group for BD were enrolled. Fifty healthy volunteers matched for age and sex with the BD group were included as a negative control group. Patients, with any condition that might affect plasma homocysteine concentration, were excluded.Results. Mean serum homocysteine concentration was significantly higher in patients with BD than in the healthy controls (), in patients with active disease (), and in masculine gender (). There was no significant difference between homocysteine level and clinical involvement.Conclusions. We demonstrated that plasma total homocysteine level (tHcy) is increased in BD and correlated with disease activity. No association was found between homocysteine levels and clinical involvement.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the sealing ability of three different canal filling techniques. Sixty-four roots of extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were prepared using ProTaper® rotary instruments. The specimens were then randomly divided into 3 experimental groups (n=16) and 2 control groups (n=8). The root canals were filled using cold lateral compaction (CLC group), continuous wave condensation technique using the Elements Obturation Unit® (EOU group), and ProTaper obturators (PT group). For the negative control group, 8 roots were filled using lateral compaction as in the CLC group, and the teeth were covered twice with a layer of nail varnish (NCG group). Another 8 roots were filled using lateral compaction, but without sealer, and these were used as the positive control (PCG group). A glucose leakage model was used for quantitative evaluation of microleakage for 24 hours and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 weeks. No significant difference in the cumulative amount of leakage was found between the three experimental groups at all observation times. The lateral condensation of cold gutta-percha can guarantee a similar seal of canal fillings as can be achieved by using thermal methods, in the round canals.

Aim. The study aimed at evaluating the incidence of dentinal defects after root canal retreatment with ProTaper Universal retreatment (PTUR) and XP-endo Shaper and Finisher R (XP). Materials and Methods. Sixty extracted single-rooted human premolars were selected and divided into 4 groups of 15 teeth each. In the negative control group, the teeth were left unprepared. In the positive control group, the teeth were prepared with ProTaper Next and obturated with no further retreatment. In the PTUR and XP groups, the teeth were prepared and obturated followed by removal of the filling material at body temperature using PTUR and XP instruments, respectively. The roots were then sectioned at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex and observed under a digital microscope to detect defects. Results. PTUR group showed significantly higher ( p value <0.05) incidence of defects than the other groups. Comparison of no defects versus defects between groups in different areas of root canals demonstrated significant difference among the groups in the apical and cervical regions. Conclusion. Within the limitations of the present study, PTUR files created significantly more dentinal defects than XP files, with most of those defects at the cervical and apical areas of the root canals.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the antihyperglycemic activity of tinocrisposide by stimulating 3T3-L1 adipocyte cell differentiation. Tinocrisposide is a furanoditerpene glycoside that was isolated from Tinospora crispa (Menispermaceae).Methods: Adipocyte cell differentiation activity of tinocrisposide in interval concentrations of 50, 25, 12.5, and 6.25 μg/ml has been investigated on 3T3-L1 cell line using insulin of 1 μg/ml as a positive and Dulbecco’s modified Eagle media (DMEM) as a negative control group. The effect of tinocrisposide was quantified with oil red O staining method by measuring an absorbance of lipid solution in isopropanol at a wavelength (λ) of 520 nm.Results: Tinocrisposide in the concentrations of 50, 25, 12.5, and 6.25 μg/ml insulin of 1 μg/ml and DMEM groups showed absorbance value of 0.7669, 0.7253, 0.6563, 0.6481, 0.954, and 0.2653, respectively. It was found that there was a significant difference statistically in lipid droplets accumulation among all groups (p<0.05) and tinocrisposide at a concentration of 50 μg/ml showed the highest lipid droplets accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocyte cells.Conclusion: From the study, it could be concluded that tinocrisposide was able to stimulate the differentiation of adipocyte cell and had antihyperglycemic activity.

Introduction: The objective of the study was to assess the rate of canine retraction and secondary outcomes associated with conventional fixed orthodontic treatment (CFO) and CFO with micro-osteoperforation (CFO + MOP), that is, anchorage loss, root resorption, vitality of tooth, pain and discomfort level during the procedure. Methods: A total of 16 patients with Class II Division 1 malocclusion who required upper first premolar extraction with lower non-extraction/single incisor extraction were divided into the test group (MOP) and positive control group (CFO + MOP) for a split-mouth study. Both maxillary canines were retracted with nickel–titanium (NiTi) closed coil springs. Patients were reviewed after 24 hours, 7 days, 28 days, and 4, 8, and 16 weeks to assess the rate of tooth movement, anchorage loss, root resorption, vitality of tooth, pain and discomfort level. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the rate of tooth movement between the CFO and CFO + MOP groups after the first 4 weeks ( P-value = .026), whereas no statistically significant difference was observed at 8, 12, and 16 weeks ( P-value = .33, .99, and .08, respectively). In the CFO group, there was no statistically significant difference in tooth movement between different time intervals ( P-value > .05). There was no significant difference in root resorption between the groups. The pain level was higher in the MOP group in the first 24 hours ( P-value < .05) after the procedure. Later on, the difference in pain level between the groups was not significant ( P-value > .05). The vitality of retracted canines in both groups was healthy. Conclusion: The study recommends that the CFO + MOP procedure has substantial potential to be used as an adjunct to the routine mechanotherapy for faster tooth movement, as it may reduce the treatment time by half in the first 4 weeks after the MOP procedure. There are no potential differences in anchorage loss, tipping, vitality, and apical and lateral root resorption between the CFO and CFO + MOP groups. This trial was registered at Clinical Trial Registry, India.

This study aim was to determine the influence ant nest plant extract (Myrmecodia pendans) on histopathological changeof white rat liver (Rattus novergicus) due to induced with paracetamol toxic dose. This study used 24 male white rats, divided into four groups, negative control group (P0) given placebo, positive control group (P1) given paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P2 given ant nest extract 250 mg / kg bw and paracetamol dose 250 mg / kg bw for 10 days, P3 given ants nest extract 250 mg / kg bw for seven days, then continued by giving paracetamol and ants nest extract with dose 250 mg / kg bw for ten days. After the treatment done, all the rats were dinecropsed. Liver organs were taken and processed for making histopathology preparations. Parameters examined included hemorrhage, congestion, degeneration and necrosis. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using Kruskal Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test. Mann Whitney test results for all categories of histopathologic changes in  hemorrhagic, congestion, degeneration, and necrosis between negative control group (P0) and positive control group (P1) were significantly different (P <0.05), between negative control (P0) with P2 and P3 there was no significant difference (P> 0,05). Afterward, between the positive control (P1) and P2 with P3 there was a significant difference (P <0.05). I can be concludedthat the administration of paracetamol dose 250 mg/kg bw for 10 days affects the histopathologic changes of white rat liver. The administration of ant nest plant extracts can reduce the side effects of toxic doses of paracetamol.

Study on whether genetic toxicity of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is reversible. This paper detected Chromosomal aberrations and content of RNA & DNA. Chromosome aberration rate and the RNA/DNA ratio of TDI 1/4LC50 and 1/2 LC50 dosing exposure group were higher than negative control group significantly (P<0.01). There was no significant difference between 1/4LC50 and 1/2LC50 (P>0.05).The results showed that the damage of TDI on chromosomes and DNA was repairable, but can not be repaired completely.
