Regis University in Denver, Colorado, launched its first corporate partnership in 1987. The University has since developed two additional partnerships with very disparate industries. The three companies encompass a wide range of needs and cultures. The process of beginning and maintaining cross-cultural partnerships is dynamic and challenging. Mary Lou Nugent draws on her personal experience as Director of the partnership between Coors Brewing Company and Regis University to highlight and discuss critical elements in the successful development of a corporate–academic partnership, and points up the substantial benefits accruing from the relationship. She also indicates how the original Coors partnership provided Regis with a model on which to base the development of the two relationships subsequently established with Storage Technology Corporation and AT&T.

The editorial introduces the articles of the issue, all pertaining to the arts and sciences event, Aboagora, which gathered artists, academics and a wide range of interested listeners together to discuss the relationship between technology and the human being in Turku/Åbo in August, 2013. Aboagora is arranged as a joint venture between Turku Music Festival and scholars from the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and the Donner Institute.

This study reviews some of the prominent ranking systems with a view to shed more light on what may constitute a critical success factor in the field of higher education. In the first part, the ranking systems are reviewed and the key principles are explained. A brief description of how institutions use ranking information is also included. In the second part of the study, the subject of internationalization in the context of ranking systems is discussed. The main challenges of competitiveness in higher education and the increasing role of internationalization are expressed. The chapter also describes threats and opportunities for the future of higher education. This section also includes suggestions for higher education administrators. In the third part, the subject of ranking with particular focus on the university-industry collaboration and its effects on the future of higher education are discussed. The role of the industry and the changing mission of the universities in the new era are explained.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the critical success factors and the critical delays in the context of water infrastructure construction projects (WICPs) in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. In addition, the purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual model to investigate the potential relationship. The literature concerning the critical success and delay factors and the related models that are available provide a starting point for developing the conceptual model. Based on the comprehensive and thorough literature review, all the dimensions of the variables are identified and discussed in detail.This study attempts to reduce the existing gap in the literature regarding the relationship between the critical success factors and critical delay. It forms a foundation upon which further local research can be conducted. In addition, it attempts to identify and point out the most critical success factors that will minimize the delay claims in water infrastructure construction projects (WICPs), as such delays would lead to some of the most difficult and controversial disputes to resolve.  Internationally, it is expected that the findings of this research may help as an evidentiary reference data on which other and further similar comparative researches could be initiated and developed in different environments in terms of cultural, social, contractual, political, and environmental mediums.Finally, the conceptual framework was developed by identifying six (6) variables for project critical success namely Project Management Process (PMP), Project Manager Competency (PMC), Project Team Members’ Competency (PTC), Project Organizational Planning (POP), Project Resources’ Utilization (PRU) and Project Organizational Commitment (POC).

In the Czech Republic, Knowledge Management-related problems occur at all knowledge stages with difficulties more predominant at an organisational level. In principal, they originate from the lack of an utilisable and detailed KM implementation methodology; varying perceptions of KM coupled with the notion, that KM equates and is limited to information technologies and the like. As a reaction to these problems, the Faculty of Informatics and Management at the University of Hradec Králové (FIM UHK) developed a new KM implementation methodology. It aims to provide interested parties with a set of ground rules distributed among a number of phases. Further development is underway to elaborate the method by integrating project management tools, benchmarking exercises and critical success factors. Despite this endeavour, there is an on-going need for further research given the reality that small and medium sized enterprises constitute the majority of organisations in the Czech Republic.

When addressing the possible futures for the university, one can ask what the new critical success factors (CSF) are that represent the core of the University of the Future, from a strategic perspective of analysis. Considering the Society 5.0 paradigm, characterized by higher levels of uncertainty, turbulence, and balance between technology and human values, adaptation to the ecosystem becomes an essential competence. Based on the literature, considering the convergence of organizational cybernetics and biomimetics, this theoretical article proposes a set of new CSF for the University of the Future, expanding the analysis of Society 5.0 and the future challenges for universities. Additionally, proposes a maturity model with eleven dimensions and three stages to support this discussion, visioning a future scenario. This foresight approach provides new insights to think over strategic critical success factors for the university to respond to possible and sustainable futures. Reconfiguration, purpose, and digitization are capacities to address the new environment set in this Smart Society. With this analysis, strategic questions are proposed for researchers and practitioners, especially to address global and regional challenges that universities will face, particularly due to the technological gap established between countries.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to show how it is possible to take into account the objectives that fashion-luxury companies pursue on the final market (i.e. critical success factors (CSF) – of luxury) and propagate them in the upstream steps of the supply chain (SC) in order to understand how the latter can be aligned to the market. Design/methodology/approach – An extensive literature review allowed the identification of SC objectives. Case studies were used in order to asses choices and practices applied along the SC of luxury companies were assessed through in depth case studies; hence, the relationship between choices/practices, SC objectives and luxury CSF was explored. Findings – The paper documents that success in the luxury market not only depends on branding and marketing but also on the choices made along the SC, to the point that it is possible to identify some SC choices and practices that support the achievement of luxury CSF. Research limitations/implications – The results presented represent a useful guideline and offer some methodological suggestions; however, the precise set of SC objectives have to be tailored on each specific brand, according to the uniqueness that characterizes luxury companies. Practical implications – The paper suggests which areas of the SC should be mostly targeted in order to achieve success in the luxury market, also indicating some possible concrete choices. Originality/value – The main value of this paper consists in shaping a first explicit connection among the world of luxury as it is perceived by the consumers and the world of the SC.

British theatre between the two world wars has been a neglected area of interest for contemporary scholars and theatre historians, but a growing body of work in this field has of late begun to challenge the orthodoxies. Much of the new work has focused on the reclamation and repositioning of the work of ‘forgotten’ women playwrights and commercially successful gay playwrights such as Noël Coward and Terence Rattigan. Here, John Deeney examines how the Lord Chamberlain's licensing of Christa Winsloe's lesbian-themedChildren in Uniform, and the commercial and critical success of its production at the Duchess Theatre in 1932–33, invites a reassessment of the possibilities open to women playwrights for exploring ‘deviancy’; and how contemporary theoretical positions too frequently ignore the challenge of the historically and culturally specific. This work presents important information about the medicolegal systems in two different countries through the author's personal experience during his work. In Libya, the Medicolegal Centres, attached to the Justice Department, receives all cases referred by the Director of Public Prosecution or by the Judge. These constitute a wide range of cases which include in descending order of frequency, age estimation, injuries, autopsies, sexual offences, criminal responsibility, medical mishaps, disputed paternity and nullity of marriage. In Scotland, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Science at the University of Glasgow receive only a proportion of the total number of cases investigated by the Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow. These are exclusively deaths that require medicolegal autopsies, which average 458 per year. The Medicolegal Centre in Benghazi receives all referrals from the courts, which average 1780 cases per year, but autopsies constitute only 14.4% (256 cases per year). A total of 1144 autopsies performed in Glasgow during a period of 2.5 years, and 7121 medicolegal cases investigated in Benghazi during a period of 4 years (1022 of that were autopsies), are presented in 12 tables and duly discussed. The outstanding observation is the marked male preponderance in deaths from unnatural causes in Benghazi, (80% of the total), compared to less marked male preponderance in Glasgow, (60% of the total). This is explained by the fact that due to social custom in Libya, females have limited outdoor activities and lead a rather domestic life compared to females in Britain.
