The Priorities of Elementary and Secondary Principals for the Criteria Used in the Teacher Selection Process

In this study, elementary and secondary principals, from the states Ohio and Illinois, were not found to have different priorities for the selection of teachers regardless of the area/focal position being sought. The higher selection priorities are enthusiasm for teaching, communication skills, and interviewer's evaluation. The lower priorities are reference information, grade point average, and self-purposing. More research is needed to clarify how these criteria actually are used. Administrators and potential candidates need to be aware of and concentrate on the higher priorities in relation both to how they are demonstrated and to how they are evaluated.

Abstract This paper uses the 2015 Peruvian national teacher selection process to explore candidates’ rank-ordered preferences for public schools. We show that, in seeking a permanent position, candidates prefer schools that are closer to where they attended their Teacher Education Program (TEP) and that are located in urban areas. These preferences vary by candidates’ attributes: urban location seem to be particularly important for females and higher-performing candidates. Preferences for proximity to previous workplace are weaker for younger candidates and stronger for high performers. Candidates also prefer larger schools located in low-poverty districts, with one teacher per classroom (vs. non-single-teacher/multigrade), Spanish language instruction (vs. non-bilingual), and access to basic services. A greater understanding of which school characteristics are most valued by teachers can help to design effective policies for attracting candidates to hard-to-staff schools.

This paper reviews and identifies the criteria used in the teacher-candidate selection process. The identified main criteria and sub-criteria were prioritized according to their importance by a group of experts. The literature was the source of the criteria and twelve experts who have experience in teacher-selection process were asked to justify the criteria obtained from the secondary source. Furthermore, these experts evaluated the relative importance of the identified criteria in a pair-wise manner. Their judgments were analysed by a multi-criteria method, known as the Analytic Hierarchy Process.   Three main criteria were identified which consisted of ‘content of knowledge’, ‘communication skills’ and ‘personality’, while each of these three main criteria had four, six and eight sub-criteria respectively. The degree of importance which is known as weights of these criteria were also calculated where those criteria which receive higher values are considered to be more important. Generally, the results of the analysis show that ‘communication skills’ and ‘personality’ are the most and second-most important criteria respectively, followed by ‘content of knowledge’ in the third position. The analysis of the importance of the sub-criteria of these three main criteria is also included.   These criteria and the weights can be used later in the development of the teacher-selection model. Both secondary data and primary data were used in this research. All the experts or the respondents have experience in the selection process where 40% of them have more than six years’ experience.   Keywords: Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), importance, multi-criteria, selection, teacher, weights.

The lack of quota each scholarship awarded by the RISTEK DIKTI make students vying to get it.For example, in 2016 a scholarship PPA quotanya 12 people and scholarships BPP as many as 11 people, while registering perbeasiswa can reach hundreds of students. Of course, with this state of student affairs should be thorough and careful in the selection of the requirements that have been proposed student. Especially in the student still using simple calculations and application of semimanual for decision-making. Given each scholarship PPA and BBP has several requirements that must be met students we need a system that is able to decide objectively. So that decisions are absolutely on target in accordance with the government's expectations. Therefore, in this study thetheme of the fuzzy system for selecting scholarship in STMIK Bumigora Mataram. The results of this study contribute to the recommendations that indicate a student suitably receive certain types of scholarships with an accuracy of 80%. The indicator is used as a determinant in the decision-making scholarship acceptance form of the economic situation of parents, grade point average, points student, active in the organization and the certificate of student activities.

The selection of software programmer applicants based on multiperspective evaluation criteria (grade point average (GPA) and soft skills of the applicants) is needed instead of an interview because an interview does not necessarily lead to hiring the best candidate amongst the applicants. The selection of a suitable software programmer is considered a challenging task owing to the following factors: (1) data variation, (2) multiple evaluation criteria and (3) criterion importance. A general framework for the selection of the best software programmer applicants is not available in the existing literature. The present study aims to propose a novel multiperspective hiring framework based on multicriteria analysis to select the best software programmer amongst several applicants. A decision matrix (DM) is constructed for the selection of the best programmer applicants according to multiple criteria, namely, structured programming, object-oriented programming, data structure, database system and courseware engineering. Each criterion includes two parameters, namely, GPA and soft skills, and these criteria cross over with programmer applicants as alternatives. The standard and expert opinion of the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge is used to distribute the criteria in the DM. The two commonly used techniques of multicriteria decision-making are analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for weighing the criteria and technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) for ranking the alternatives (programmer applicants). The data used in this study include 60 software engineering students who graduated in 2016 from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. Results show that integrating multilayer analytic hierarchy process (MLAHP) and group TOPSIS are effective for solving applicant selection problems. Group TOPSIS uses different contexts — internal and external aggregation — and indicates similar results. Objective validation is used for the ranking of the results, which are equally divided into four parts. Furthermore, the applicants are systematically ranked. This study benefits application software, system software and computer programming tool companies by providing a method that improves software quality whilst reducing time and cost in the selection process.

Admissions models facilitate the selection of MSW candidates who are both academically prepared for graduate study and professionally suited to social work, characteristics often referred to as fit-to-the-profession. This study attempted to identify the relationship between the criteria used in the admissions model of a medium-sized MSW program and student success in the program. Specific criteria and the associated measurement tools within the model were evaluated in relation to student success. The study found that undergraduate grade point average is significantly associated with MSW grade point average while neither academic criteria nor fit to the profession criteria were predictive of graduation. The study also offered new information regarding the admission of students with a criminal history. Students with a criminal history were eight times less likely to graduate than their non-offending peers, even when controlling for age, gender, race, and program type. The study supports the development of new fit-to-the-profession criteria with the possible elimination of the written statement.

Each study program seeks to improve the quality of education and accreditation. One element that becomes the value of accreditation is students who graduate on time. The more active students, the more students will graduate on time. Thus, the head of the study program needs to make predictions of students who will be inactive in the next semester. To make predictions, we must determine what features are needed. This article is the result of feature selection research to predict the active status of students. The selection of features using seven features using the RandomForest package from R Studio. One feature as output is the active status of students and six features as input i.e; grade point (GP), grade point average (GPA), parent work, school majors, school category, and student hometown. The results of the selection of features show the strongest features to the weakest are; grade points (GP), grade point average (GPA), work of parents, majors of origin, schools of origin, and student hometown

Some states have viewed teacher selection as a means of improving student performance and have mandated the use of site-based teacher councils. To assess the utility of this legislative action, an experimental study was conducted. This study uses a 2X3X2 factorial design that varies state legislation, role of the decision maker, and academic performance of the school site. Credentials of hypothetical teacher candidates were evaluated as if screening for a vacant position, and evaluations were submitted to a MANOVA. Results indicate that legislated alterations in the teacher-selection process failed to have any substantial effects on outcomes in the screening of teacher candidates for elementary school positions. Although screening decisions were found to be the same for participants affiliated with both low- and high-performing school districts, teachers were more appreciative of candidate’s credentials than either principals or parents.

University dropout is a politically and economically important factor. While a number of studies address this issue cross-sectionally by analyzing different cohorts, or retrospectively via questionnaires, few of them are truly longitudinal and focus on the individual as the unit of interest. In contrast to these studies, an individual differences perspective is adopted in the present paper. For this purpose, a hands-on introduction to a recently proposed structural equation (SEM) approach to discrete-time survival analysis is provided ( Muthén & Masyn, 2005 ). In a next step, a prospective study with N = 1096 students, observed across four semesters, is introduced. As expected, average university grade proved to be an important predictor of future dropout, while high-school grade-point average (GPA) yielded no incremental predictive validity but was completely mediated by university grade. Accounting for unobserved heterogeneity, three latent classes could be identified with differential predictor-criterion relations, suggesting the need to pay closer attention to the composition of the student population.

Mosque architectural design is based on Islamic culture as an approach to objects and products from the Islamic community by looking at their suitability and values and basic principles of Islam that explore more creative and innovative ideas. The purpose of this system is to help the team and the community in seeing the best mosque in the top order so that the system can be used as a reference for the team and the community. The variables used in the selection of modern mosques include facilities and infrastructure, building structure, roof structure, mosque area, level of security and facilities. The system model used is a fuzzy promethee model that is used for the modern mosque selection process. Fuzzy inference assessment is used to determine the value of each variable so that the value remains at normal limits. Fuzzy values will then be included in promethee assessment aspects. The highest promethee ranking results will be made a priority for the best mosque ranking. This fuzzy inference system and promethee system can help the management team and the community in determining the selection of modern mosques in aceh in accordance with modern mosque architecture. Basic competence used during counseling session is the development of trained skills and experienced obtained by counselor candidate during their education. To obtain the skills the counselors have to seriously pass some training phases. This study is aimed at finding out the basic competence possessed by counselor candidate during counseling session in Faculty of Education and Teachers Training in Islamic University of Raden Intan Lampung. This research applied quantitative method, involving 145 of final year students who were randomly selected. Data was collected by distributing the questionnaire of counseling basic competence and analyzed by using descriptive statistic aided by Statistics Package for Social Science (SPSS version 22.0). Generally the findings of the study reveals that the counseling basic competence possessed by the counselor candidates is placed on Average/Simple level. The study also shows that there is no difference competence pursuant to gender and Grade Point Average (GPA) achieved by the object of the study. It implies that the basic competence in conducting counseling session is extremely important and prominent prossesed by the counselors in schools.
