The effect of face-to-face and virtual prenatal care training of spouses on the pregnancy experience and fear of childbirth of primiparous women: A controlled quasi-experimental study

Introduction The spouse has a special role in promoting the health of mothers and infants during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Women's health during pregnancy requires the participation and cooperation of their spouses. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of face-to-face and virtual prenatal care training of spouses on the pregnancy experience and fear of childbirth of primiparous women. Methods This is a quasi-experimental clinical trial that was conducted on primiparous pregnant women referring to three prenatal clinics in Tehran, Iran. Sampling was done by available method and pregnant women were divided into three groups of face-to-face training ( n = 35), virtual training ( n = 35), and control ( n = 33). The content of training program in the virtual and face-to-face groups was similar and included; nutrition during pregnancy, emotional support, fetal growth and development, advantages and disadvantages of vaginal delivery, planning for delivery, infant care, and danger signs for infants, which were presented in four sessions. The samples in the control group did not receive any training. In the 18th and 20th weeks of pregnancy, the demographic information form, pregnancy experience scale, and version A of the Wijma delivery expectancy/experience questionnaires were completed, and once again in the 37th and 38th weeks of pregnancy, the pregnancy experience scale and version A of the Wijma delivery expectancy/experience questionnaires were completed. Results There was a statistically significant difference in the mean score of pregnancy experience after the intervention between the face-to-face training and control groups ( p = 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in the mean score of uplifts between the two groups of face-to-face training and control ( p = 0.01), and also between virtual training and control groups ( p = 0.02). There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups of face-to-face training and control in terms of and hassles score after the intervention ( p = 0.04). There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups of face-to-face training and control ( p = 0.02) and also between virtual training and control ( p = 0.04) in terms of the mean score of fear of childbirth after the intervention. Conclusion The results of this study showed that teaching prenatal care to spouses of primiparous women by face-to-face and virtual methods can be a useful intervention in improving the pregnancy experience and reducing the fear of childbirth among primiparous women.

Objectives: Giving birth is a unique experience that requires a pregnant woman’s ability to cope with labor pain. Using happiness, this potential can be given to a pregnant woman. This study was performed to compare the effect of muscle relaxation and guided imagery on the happiness and fear of delivery in primiparous women. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was carried out on a sample 0f 180 primiparous women who referred to healthcare centers in Zahedan during 2017. The subjects were selected by the available sampling method. Then, Brislin’s and Oxford Questionnaires were used to evaluate the fear of childbirth (FOC) and happiness, respectively. Through simple randomization, people who were qualified were included in relaxation, guided imagery, and control groups. Finally, a four-week training program was implemented for individual training. Results: Before the intervention, the mean scores for the FOC in relaxation, guided imagery, and control groups were 39.51 ± 6.91, 44.00 ± 9.30, and 41.56 ± 9.37, respectively, and after the intervention, they were 30.45 ± 6.56, 34.78 ± 9.36 and 41.78 ± 8.69, respectively. Based on the results, the mean scores of the FOC after the intervention showed a significant difference among the groups (P=0.0001). In addition, the mean scores for happiness were 37.5 ± 15.54, 34.54 ± 17.72, and 36.78 ± 18.97, as well as 54.66 ± 14, 49.63 ± 17.05, and 36.65 ± 18.28 before and after the intervention in relaxation, guided imagery, and control groups, respectively (P=0.0001). Conclusions: To prevent unnecessary cesarean sections, the current study confirmed the effect of muscle relaxation and guided imagery techniques for reducing the fear of delivery while increasing happiness in pregnant women.

Abstract Introduction Considering the important role of education in promoting parents’ attachment to the infant, temporal and spatial limitations, and the need to use new educational methods for spouses’ participation in childbirth preparation classes, the present study was conducted to compare the effect of in-person and virtual prenatal care education of the spouses of primiparous women on the father and mother’s attachment to the infant. Methods This is a quasi-experimental clinical trial that was conducted on primiparous pregnant women referring to three prenatal clinics in Tehran, Iran. Sampling was done by continuous method and pregnant women were divided into three groups of face-to-face education (n = 28), virtual education (n = 31), and control (n = 29). The content of the training program in the virtual and face-to-face groups was similar, which was presented in 4 sessions. At 18–20 weeks of gestation, demographic characteristics and pregnancy records were obtained from the samples, and 12 weeks after the delivery, maternal postnatal attachment scale, and postnatal paternal-infant attachment questionnaire were completed. Both intention-to-treat analysis and per-protocol analysis were performed. Results There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups of in-person education and control, and also virtual education and control for both intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups of in-person and virtual education. Results showed a large and medium effect size between the two groups of in-person education and control, and virtual education and control in terms of father-infant attachment score, respectively. There was also no statistically significant difference between the three groups after the educational intervention in terms of the mother-infant attachment score for both intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis. Conclusion Considering that education by both in-person and virtual methods had the same effect on improving the score of father-infant attachment, it is suggested that to increase the participation of spouses of pregnant women in the process of prenatal care, the spouses of pregnant women should have the option of virtual education in addition to in-person training. This research investigated whether or not there is the influence of English song towards the student’s pronunciation. This research used a quantitative method. Research design is an experimental class and control class, two classes were selected from eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Ciasem Subang. The Quasi-Experimental Research was conducted in four meetings. The data were obtained by observing the teaching and learning process, test, questionnaire, and interviewing the students. The research result of the analysis quantitative and qualitative data were as follows. The analysis of quantitative data, mean score of pre-test in the experimental class was 14.44. While the mean score in the control class was 14.58. Furthermore, the mean score of the post-test in the experimental class was 82.98. While the mean score post-test in the control class was 60.56. Based on the result, the experimental class students’ score on post-test were better in which the mean = 82.89 than their scores on pre-test the mean = 60.56 . in addition, the two-tailed value of p was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 . in conclusion, the calculation of paired t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of experimental group. The analysis of qualitative data show that used English song influence through students’ pronunciation by observing the teaching and learning process, test, questionnaire, and interviewing the students. The students were more confident and were not afraid of making mistakes when pronunciation.

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to compare fear of childbirth, state and trait anxiety, and childbirth self-efficacy among primiparous and multiparous women in Ahvaz, southwest of Iran. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted with 200 pregnant women (100 primiparous and 100 multiparous women) who had been admitted to the maternity ward of hospitals affiliated to Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz, Iran. The instruments used for data collection in this study included a demographic questionnaire, Delivery Fear Scale (DFS), Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Childbirth Self-Efficacy Inventory (CBSEI). The data were analyzed by chi-square test and independent t-test. Also, the univariate general linear model was used by adjusting for the socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics that were considered as possible confounding variables. Results The mean score of DFS in primiparous women was significantly higher than that of multiparous women. The mean of the overall score of childbirth self-efficacy of primiparous women was significantly lower than that of multiparous women. The mean score of the outcome expectancies and self-efficacy expectancies was significantly lower in primiparous women compared with multiparous women. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of the mean score of STAI. After adjusting for possible confounding variables, the differences between the two groups in terms of fear of childbirth scores, overall childbirth self-efficacy score and self-efficacy expectancies remained significant. Conclusion Given the high fear of childbirth and low childbirth self-efficacy in primiparous women compared to the multiparous women, appropriate interventions should be adopted by health care providers in order to reduce fear and improve childbirth self-efficacy in primiparous women.

Use of distraction techniques during childbirth is reported to reduce pain and stress of labor. However, there is a limited publication that looked on the effect of distraction techniques on labor pain and stress. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of distraction techniques on labor pain and stress (primary outcomes), fear of childbirth, length of delivery stages, first minute Apgar score and oxytocin consumption (secondary outcomes). Methods A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 68 pregnant women. Participants were allocated into two groups (intervention and control groups) by blocked randomization. Participants in the intervention group received distraction techniques in four sessions. Questionnaires of Fear of Childbirth (W-DEQ version A) and PSS once were completed before intervention and again at the 36th week for the W-DEQ and in the active phase for the PSS through interviews. The pain was assessed through VAS during active phase per hour. The length of delivery stages was recorded in the partograph chart. Data were analyzed by independent t-test and ANCOVA. Results The mean of perceived stress during labor in the intervention group was significantly less than that of the control group (AMD: -3.2; 95% CI: − 0.8 to − 6.0; P = 0.01). The mean (SD) of pain intensity during labor was less than in the intervention and control groups compare to the control group (6.2 vs 7.5; P < 0.001). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of fear of childbirth score (AMD: 5.3; 95% CI: 13.0 to − 6.0; P = − 2.3). Moreover, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of the active phase of labor (P = 0.504), second stage of delivery (P = 0.928), total length of delivery (P = 0.520), Apgar score (P = 1.000) and frequency of oxytocin consumption (P = 0.622). Conclusion According to the results, distraction techniques can reduce the pain and stress of labor, but further studies by using the distraction techniques are needed to reach a decisive conclusion. Abstract Background Childbirth preparation trainings are an important component of prenatal education, and pregnant women are increasingly interested in seeking information from online sources. The aim of this study is to compare the feasibility and the effects of in-person and virtual childbirth preparation training courses on the pregnancy experience, fear of childbirth (FOC), birth preference, and type of delivery among pregnant women. Methods In total, 165 primiparous women referring to a prenatal clinic at Milad Hospital in Tehran, will be included in this study. The subjects will be selected using the convenience sampling method and will be divided into three groups of study A, study B, and control. The study groups A and B will receive virtual and in-person childbirth training with similar content, respectively. The control group will receive only routine prenatal care. In the 18th and 20th weeks of pregnancy, the demographic information, pregnancy experience scale (PES), and version A of the Wijma delivery expectancy/experience questionnaire (WDEQ-A) will be completed, and in the 36th and 38th weeks of pregnancy, the PES and WDEQ-A questionnaires, as well as birth preference form will be completed. The type of delivery will be recorded in the first few days of postpartum. Conclusion This quasi-experimental clinical trial will investigate the effect of virtual childbirth preparation training on primiparous women. The expected outcomes will include the difference in pregnancy experience measured by the brief version of PES, the difference in FOC measured by WDEQ-A, the birth preference, and the type of delivery. Abstract Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused many adverse effects, including increased stress in patients. The present study aimed to determine the effect of an online self-care training program on perceived stress in COVID-19 patients.Methods: This quasi-experimental study was fulfilled by recruiting 132 COVID-19 patients, referred to two hospitals in Isfahan, Iran, from February 20 to August 22, 2021. These patients were selected using the convenience sampling method, and were then randomized into experimental (n=63) and control (n=63) groups. The online self-care training program was subsequently presented to the patients in the experimental group, during six sessions of 30 minutes for two weeks. E-learning and educational content introduced through lectures, multimedia, and instructional videos using web platforms. Then, daily follow-up sessions continued until one month after the intervention. The data were collected administering an individual characteristic form and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) at three stages before, immediately, and one month after the intervention.Results: The mean scores of perceived stress before, immediately, and one month after the intervention in the experimental group were respectively 30.51±6.31, 24.59±4.66, and 26.57±3.82, and they were 29.78±4.81, 29.4±4.57, and 29.11±4.73 in that order in the control group. Moreover, no significant difference was observed between both groups at the pre-intervention stage (p=0.467), while the mean scores of perceived stress in the experimental group were lower compared with those in the control group immediately (p<0.001) and one month after the intervention (p=0.001). The mean scores of perceived stress in the experimental group before, immediately, and one month after the intervention had also changed in a significant manner (p<0.001), whereas there was no significant variation in the control group in this respect (p=0.298).Conclusions: The online self-care training program led to a reduction in perceived stress in COVID-19 patients. It is thus recommended to implement this cheap, safe, and efficient method to relieve perceived stress in such cases.

This study was conducted to determine the influence of the FG Vega technique on students' academic performance to address the least learned competency in Science 8. Seventy students from Grade 8 classes served as respondents of the study. The study employed a quasi-experimental method. The mean score of students who took the post-test is 32.03 and 27.57 respectively for the experimental and control group. The results can be gleaned that the score of each student in the experimental group has a little variation of mean with 6.71 as compared to the control group with a variation of 7.52. The results can be observed that the mean score of students in the pre-test under the control group is 8.80 and 11.34 under the experimental group. Thus, the results of the study can be further concluded that the students under the experimental group outperformed the students in the control group. Since the significant level is lesser than the p-value of 0.05, indicates that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test under the experimental group. Hence, there is a significant difference between the post-test of the experimental and control group.

Speaking is the ability to pronounce words in order to convey or stated intention, ideas, thoughsts, feeling and dificult to deal with students. There are some problems as causes of the students’ difficulties in speaking, such as they are afraid of making mistake, less convidence, seldom to communicate and cannot express their ideas. To solve the problems, the researcher suggests the use of PPP Model in learning process. Based on the previous explanation, the researcher formulates the objective of the research is to find out whether or not the speaking ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Parepare can enhance through the Use of PPP Model In this research, the researcher applied quasi-experimental design, with two group namely experimental class and control class. The samples was chosen using cluster random sampling technique. The total numbers of sample were consisted of 55 students from two classes taken from the population of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Parepare. The instrument used in this research was speaking test by record the students’ utterance. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the data analyzed shows that the students’ speaking ability improved significantly. It was showed by the mean score of pre-test was 45.33 and the post-test was 72. 83. Besides, the mean score of the students in post-test (72.83) was higher than the Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (71) in SMP Negeri 9 Parepare and include good classification base on Dirjen Pendidikan Dasar dan Menegah (2005). In the same line, the result of t-test value was 2.102 and t-table value was 2.004 in post-test. It means that the t-test value (2.102) was higher than t-table value (2.004). Those indicate that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It also shows there is a significant difference between the speaking ability of the students who were taught through the Use of PPP Model and the speaking ability of the students who were thought by Discovery Learning Model (Conventional Ways).
