Using appropriate isolation and fractionation procedure, and UHPLC-MS/MS as powerful analytical tool, comprehensive phenolic acid profile of leaves and flowers of Hypericum perforatum L., growing wild in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been analyzed for the first time. The phenolic acids were isolated from plant tissue, liberated from esters and glycosidic bonds, and then analyzed as free acids. Results show that free forms of caffeic and chlorogenic acid were the most abundant. Generally, the content of acids is higher in flowers than in leaves, but environmental factors do not significantly influence chemical composition of this medicinal plant.

The functioning of bioluminescent systems in most of the known marine organisms is based on the oxidation reaction of the same substrate—coelenterazine (CTZ), catalyzed by luciferase. Despite the diversity in structures and the functioning mechanisms, these enzymes can be united into a common group called CTZ-dependent luciferases. Among these, there are two sharply different types of the system organization—Ca2+-regulated photoproteins and luciferases themselves that function in accordance with the classical enzyme–substrate kinetics. Along with deep and comprehensive fundamental research on these systems, approaches and methods of their practical use as highly sensitive reporters in analytics have been developed. The research aiming at the creation of artificial luciferases and synthetic CTZ analogues with new unique properties has led to the development of new experimental analytical methods based on them. The commercial availability of many ready-to-use assay systems based on CTZ-dependent luciferases is also important when choosing them by first-time-users. The development of analytical methods based on these bioluminescent systems is currently booming. The bioluminescent systems under consideration were successfully applied in various biological research areas, which confirms them to be a powerful analytical tool. In this review, we consider the main directions, results, and achievements in research involving these luciferases.

High temperature high resolution gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (HTHRGC- MS) isa powerful analytical tool. In this work we applied this technique to the study of crude extracts of propolis collected near the city of Uberlândia - Minas Gerais State. Eucalyptus trees and native plants from “cerrado” (savannah) were the material sources disposable for the Apis mellifera bees. A lot of known propolis constituents were identified, however, several high molecular weight compounds including lupeol alkanoates were identified for first time in propolis.

The Pegomya meridiana species group is established for three Palaearctic species that supposedly all as larvae attack seed-capsules of Hypericum spp. (Clusiaceae). Pegomya meridiana (Villeneuve) and P. provecta (Villeneuve) are widespread Eurasian species, while the third species, P. canariensis Michelsen, is endemic to the western Canary Islands. Synapomorphies for the Pegomya meridiana species group are most evident in the females: A laterally compressed oviscapt with blade-shaped cerci and a unique forward displacement of spiracles VI onto tergite V. Both sexes of P. provecta and P. canariensis are further lacking abdominal spiracles VII, a character state not previously reported from Anthomyiidae. An equally novel character state is the fusion of the cercal tips seen in female P. canariensis. The taxonomic part includes illustrated descriptions, specimen records, notes on distribution and biology, and an identification key to males and females. Females of P. provecta and P. canariensis are described for the first time. Hypericum perforatum L. and H. canariense L. are known as invasive weeds outside their natural ranges, and it is pointed out that species of the P. meridiana species group might be useful in the control of alien populations of these plants through their seed-feeding larvae.

The article is devoted to the analysis of interethnic relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in the 1940s and 1960s. The article is based on materials from the archives of BiH, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. The documents show the state of affairs in the Republic – both in the economy and in ideology. In one or another way, all of them reflect the level of tension in the interethnic relations. For the first time, the article presents the discussion on interethnic relations, on the new phenomenon in multinational Yugoslavia – the emergence of a new people in BiH under the name of “Muslim”. The term “Muslims” is used to define the ethnic identity of Bosniaks in the territory of BiH starting from the 1961 census.

This study was carried out to test the possibility of hexavalent chromium administration through drinking water to induce the structural damage in rat�s adrenal glands and the possibility of Hypericum perforatum extract to faith against chromium aggression. Chromium induced cellular stress was determined by the expression level assessment of the Bcl2 genes family, known to modulate the apoptotic pathway. Obtained results showed that exposure to chromium altered adrenal glands morphology, by induction of apoptosis. When Hypericum perforatum extract was administered expression level of Bcl2 genes and histological lesions in adrenal glands were significantly reduced.
