In this case study of a research and development facility construction project at a large biopharmaceutical organization, we explored how digital investments must be accompanied by a partnership approach and a transformation of the cultural values of an organization tied to operational principles. The project faced considerable challenges, including a highly constrained market environment, time and cost constraints, and a multiyear organization transformation with a diverse mix of stakeholder objectives. Despite these challenges, the project was brought in under budget and on schedule, achieving other objectives that often seem at odds with each other (best-in-class sustainability ratings, quality scores from customers, and with a remarkably low number of change requests). We found that significant stakeholder engagement early in the architect and contractor selection process leads to the right contract management process and ultimately successful outcomes. A key insight from this case involves the need for differentiated supplier relationship management for procurement-project team integration.

This research is a qualitative research with case study at PT Kimia Farma (Persero) Tbk. The purpose of this research is to understand the overall development strategy of human capital of the Company. Data were collected from primary data through interview, observation, and recording; while secodary data were obtained from PT Kimia Farma (Persero) Tbk or from the externals that are used by the researcher to strengthen the premise, theory building, or data from previous researchers.  The data collected from primary and secondary sources are then processed. The validity of data is checked though data accuracy checking process (triangulation). This research found that the Company has conducted human reseource development strategy through 1) Integrated HR Development with the Company’s visions and missions; 2) open recruitment and selection process will decide and find the candidates who meet the qualifications; 3) preparing assessement center to select the right candidate for the right position; 4) employees training can improve the employees’ competence; and 5) the right development of human capital to prepare for the competitiveness in the future.. We steered this research to explore the recruitment and selection management of members based on interests applied by the selection team in the Arabic language student association. This research was a case study with a qualitative approach. The data were collected by interview, documentation, and observation. The results revealed that students who took part in the selection were classified based on their interests or skills through interviews and tests conducted by the selection team. However, the selection team experienced 2 obstacles: 1) time constraints during the selection process, 2) obstacles after the recruitment process. The first obstacle was when some students did not know what interests they have and the second one was when the members lost their motivation and commitment to learn. These obstacles affect other members and the learning process in the Arabic language student association. Therefore, the right recruitment process will attract more members that meet the qualifications and influence the student association. Then, in turn, it will make students more creative, explore themselves, become generation of achievers.

Digitalization is the key trend of the Industry 4.0 revolution. Industrial companies are transforming the way they design and maintain their products and solutions. The user requirements become more demanding. Competition among the manufacturing companies is at its limits and transforms the products to be more complex. Yet, other challenges such as faster time to market, higher quality requirements and legislation force enterprises to provide new ways of design, manufacture and service their end products. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a key solution to track the entire lifespan of the product from idea to design, design to manufacture and manufacture to service. Besides the complexity of products and production, the selection of the right PLM solution which will become the backbone of enterprises is an open problem. In this paper, a thorough literature review is conducted to analyze the most important features for selecting the right PLM solution for manufacturing firms. Moreover, to overcome the challenge of decision makers’ (DM) subjective judgments, a novel interval value spherical fuzzy COPRAS (IVSF-COPRAS) multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method is introduced. The paper aims to help enterprises rapidly identify the best alternative vendor/solution to be selected based on the need of the organization. In order to show the applicability, DM inputs are collected from a leading defense company where the PLM selection process is ongoing. The industrial case study is provided to demonstrate the success of the proposed selection framework.

This study encourages the disclosure of cultural values contained in the book al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik which is used in learning maharah kalam at the middle school level. Teaching cultural-based maharah kalam is important in learning Arabic. Cultural values contained in textbooks must be adapted to the way they are taught to students. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method at Dar el-Iman Junior High School, Padang, Indonesia. Data collection was carried out using in-depth observations, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique was based on Miles and Huberman's theory which encompassed data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The data obtained were validated with data triangulation techniques and data sources. This study showed that the cultural values adopted from the book al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik in Junior High School of Dar el-Iman are associated with what students have done every day, such as saying greetings when they first meet, not shaking hands between men and women, getting used to good pronunciation of sentences, and etc. It is necessary to test the effectiveness of the use of al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik textbook in improving students' maharah kalam, to become a reference for teachers in choosing the right maharah kalam textbook.

Electricity demand forecasting has attracted the attention of many researchers and power company staff. It still does so because with better forecasting, power companies can approach exact plans with no over- or –under planning. This is reflected as being the right investment in terms of time, money, and performance. In essence a good demand forecast means the right investment plan and therefore, satisfied customers. In reality this is the objective of any business; to be able to estimate the demand as close to reality as possible. The number and extent of demand forecasting methodologies and models developed is tremendous, however, there exists no novel technique that can serve all situations. Basically forecasting models can be divided into statistically based and intelligence-based models. A description of forecasting models helps in identifying the characteristics, features, and strengths of each model. The selection of the most suitable forecasting algorithm is not an easy process. The time frame of the forecast, data availability, the accuracy and cost of the forecast, the application and purpose of the forecast are some of the important parameters in the selection process. A case study of two forecasting models used in Jordan is presented. The discussion of the case study shows that load forecasting in Jordan is based on an intelligence-based model for short term forecasting, and on a combination of traditional statistically-based models for long term forecasting.

In this chapter a case study of a world-class manufacturing organisation implementing SAP is purposefully used to demonstrate the influence of bias over requirements in the decision making process. Furthermore, this research highlights the difficulties in determining if the ERP package selected by an organisation is in fact the right software package, to fulfil the functional requirements of the organisation.

The procurement process is one of the most important phases in any project life cycle, particularly when it comes to selecting the right contractor for the job. Awarding the contract to the best bid proposal is a critical step to ensure the greatest value. BIM has been recognized as not only a geometric modelling of buildings, but also, it facilitates the different stages in management of construction projects. The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of using Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the tendering process from the contractor’s perspective, based on a probability model able to predict winning probability, regardless of relative weight. The main objective of this research is to measure the likelihood of winning a tender in the case of implementing BIM strategy, compared with contractors who do not use BIM. The research uses a literature review, surveys, and interviews with experts to develop a model that predicts the probability of winning a contract; this is determined by measuring the BIM impact on each selection criterion in a multicriteria selection process using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to develop a probability-based model. The results of the survey and the interview show that BIM strategy has a variant influence on the score the contractor could have on each of them raising the probability of winning the tender. The main result of this paper is the property-based model, which is able to predict BIM winning probability regardless of relative weight, which can be applied in any country. Nonetheless, the Saudi case study shows that utilizing BIM when proposing could increase the winning probability by up to 9.42% in the case of Quality-Based Selection (QBS), and to 5.5% in the case of Cost-Based Selection (CBS).

This case study examines and illustrates within country regional cultural differences and cross border cultural similarities across four western European countries. Drawing on the data from the World Values Survey (WVS), we refer to the Schwartz Cultural Values Inventory in the survey. The demographic variables of age, gender, education level, marital status and income vary across the regions and hence, have significant effects on the cultural value dimensions across regions. The findings help a better understanding of the homogeneity and heterogeneity of regions withinand across countries. Both researchers and managers will have to justify their sampling methods and generalisations more carefully when drawing conclusions for a whole country. This case study underlines the limited knowledge about regional within country cultural differences, while also illustrating the simplification of treating each country as culturally homogeneous. Cross-country business strategies connecting transnational regional markets based on cultural value characteristics need to take these similarities and differences into account when designating business plans.

The paper deals with the issues related to the pollution of aquatic ecosystems. The influence of turbulence on the transport and dispersion of pollutants in the mentioned systems, as well as the calculation of the turbulent diffusion coefficients are studied. A case study on the determination of turbulent diffusion coefficients for some sectors of the Prut River is presented. A new method is proposed for the determination of the turbulent diffusion coefficients in the pollutant transport equation for specific sectors of a river, according to the associated number of P�clet, calculated for each specific area: the left bank, the right bank and the middle of the river.
