This case study examines and illustrates within country regional cultural differences and cross border cultural similarities across four western European countries. Drawing on the data from the World Values Survey (WVS), we refer to the Schwartz Cultural Values Inventory in the survey. The demographic variables of age, gender, education level, marital status and income vary across the regions and hence, have significant effects on the cultural value dimensions across regions. The findings help a better understanding of the homogeneity and heterogeneity of regions withinand across countries. Both researchers and managers will have to justify their sampling methods and generalisations more carefully when drawing conclusions for a whole country. This case study underlines the limited knowledge about regional within country cultural differences, while also illustrating the simplification of treating each country as culturally homogeneous. Cross-country business strategies connecting transnational regional markets based on cultural value characteristics need to take these similarities and differences into account when designating business plans.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The intent of this paper is to demonstrate the cultural value that Virtual Heritage experiences can generate. As a proof of concept, game resolution assets were optimized from high polygon image based models (IBMs) and rendered in real-time, within a Head Mounted Display (HMD). The case study of lot 3317 was chosen to facilitate heuristic explorations pertinent to the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway, Canada. This case study explores methods in creating and validating heritage values, while valourizing assets as a cultural resource for use in the future. While at the same time, challenging the current spatial dynamics by conceptually reducing the distance between the viewer and the flooded landscape. In addition to demonstrating the cultural values generated through the veneration of lot 3317, the paper aims to provide a model for optimizing and post processing meshes produced through Under-Water Image-Base Modelling.</p>

Abstract: Pesantren tends to have an adaptive response towards social changes in community life. This research employed a qualitative approach by using a case study to discern the adaptive strategy of an Islamic boarding school. Then, the data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentaries. Next, they were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, namely data collection, condensation, data display, and conclusions drawing simultaneously. Finally, the validity of the data was gained through triangulation. The study results showed that pesantren has actively adapted themselves towards these social demands. Furthermore, it shows that 1) the dialectics of pesantren and social community in transforming cultural values through formal education was done by establishing several formal educations; 2) the dialectics of pesantren and social community in transforming cultural values through non-formal education was done by establishing several non-formal religious-based institutions through pesantren activities. Abstrak: Pesantren dalam kehidupan masyarakat memiliki sikap adaptif terhadap perubahan. Although small and consequently often overlooked, Belgium none the less provides historians with an interesting case study for comparing social and economic trends among Western European countries. Belgian society in the nineteenth century was transformed by the same forces as its close neighbours – Britain, France and Germany. Indeed, Belgium was the second country in the world to industrialize and it has long been one of the most heavily urbanized societies as well. Yet urbanization and industrialization affected Belgium in some significantly different ways than they did other Western European countries.

Early literatures show the importance of institutions with reference to European countries, where Renaissance age led the Western European countries to industrial revolution and hence intercontinental trade. At present, institutions in a country are the foundation on which all economic activity is built. The present paper deals with how institutional developments (for countries in this study) over time could lead to development of bilateral trade between India and ASEAN.

<p>The study compared the cultural values along the seven World Values Survey dimensions. Subjects were 811 males, age 18 to 35, proportionately representing the 11 largest ethnic groups in Kenya. The study extended research in cultural differences between ethnic identities within a country, supplemental to cultural differences between countries. Significant differences are found between the Kenyan ethnic groups on the dimensions of masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, indulgence vs. restraint, and long-term orientation. Post-hoc analyses differentiated between individual ethnic groups on the cultural dimensions. Implications for management are presented to acknowledge ethnic differences in world orientation based on cultural dimension differences of ethnicities within Kenya.</p><p><span style="font-size: 10px;"> </span></p><p> </p>

This comparison study of the implementation of energy-saving projects in buildings was conducted in order to consider the diversity of experiences between Western European countries, which have experience and expertise in this area, and those countries in Eastern Europe that are in the beginning stages. The goal of this paper is to analyze obstacles and incentives for investment in energy conservation in buildings by comparing European countries with a diverse landscape of institutional and economic developments, social-cultural values, and environmental framework conditions in order to understand if these differences are influencing the implementation of energy saving measures and how this can be used to overcome the existing obstacles. The study is based on survey results received from experts in Eastern and Western European countries. The main value of the research is that it offers an overview of the potentials and constraints (barriers) to energy efficiency in Europe, based on data from a sample of western and eastern European countries. Among the most important incentives that were implemented to stimulate energy-saving measures are costs savings and the need to meet regulatory requirements. The main obstacles that still restrict the number of already implemented projects in Europe are a lack of proper financial incentives and that many Eastern countries are still struggling to develop the market of Energy Saving Services (ESS) and to operate better energy waste control systems. The paper concludes with the successful incentives that were implemented to stimulate the energy-saving measures and the main obstacles that still restrict the number of already implemented projects in Europe. Additionally, a set of indicators related to the environmental friendliness and social significance of energy-saving measures was proposed for evaluation of the project results. These were used based on the fact that they may be measured and cater for comparisons. This paper can help improve policy-makers’ selections in order to improve economic instruments appropriate to energy-saving policy objectives and specific national contexts.

Cultural orientation is conceptualized as a moderator variable of behavior. People of different ethnic groups possess cultural orientations different from those of the majority. Assuming cultural homogene-ity across all people of a given nation-state may lead to neglecting the potentially multi-layered nature of national cultural values. Cultural differences offer guidelines to equip oneself better in personal communication (Yi 2021). This study examines the cultural value orientations of Lithuania’s Russian diaspora, who in 2015 made up of 4.8% national average. The research question was concerned with characteristics of value orientations concerning four dimensions of Hofstede’s cultural value orientation. A total of 193 respon-dents of the target group completed the adopted Yoo, Donthu, and Lenartowicz’s (2011) questionnaire CVSCALE. The study explored ethnic-based intra-country cultural differences and similarities providing a greater understanding of the societal differences in value orientations.

AbstractMoral traditionalism versus progressiveness and secular authoritarianism versus libertarianism are often understood as central to the same “new” cultural cleavage in politics. Despite the often-found sizable correlations between these two cultural value divides, the present paper theorizes that this relationship is not a cross-contextual constant, but rather a specific feature of secularized contexts where moral traditionalism is relatively marginal. We test this theory by means of a two-stage statistical analysis of the data from the four waves of the European Values Study (1981–2008) for 17 Western European countries. Our findings confirm that the two value divides are most strongly connected in the most secularized contexts because the latter are least morally traditionalist. While the two cultural divides hence tend to be distinct in more religious Western-European countries, they tend to coalesce into one single “new” cultural divide in more secular ones.

The people of Makassar, which are part of South Sulawesi, certainly have abundant cultural diversity, including the inheritance of character values and manners for the younger generation. Like the cultural conditions in general. Until now no one has been able to maintain the status quo of the culture itself. This study aims to determine: 1) How is the degradation of the socio-cultural values of Lontara characters such as the value of siri, pacce, sipakatau, reso among millennials in Antang Village. 2) What are the forms of changes in the socio-cultural value of the Lontara script among millennials in Antang Village. The research method used is descriptive qualitative often referred to as naturalistic research methods. The approach used in this research is the case study approach, the author uses the case study approach because an intensive empirical study investigating real life is carried out, the informants totaled five people with different backgrounds. Data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, documentation. The data analysis technique uses descriptive-analytical methods, namely data reduction, data presentation, verification. The results of this study indicate that the community sees the character of the millennial generation as having undergone significant changes. The cultural values of the Lontara script have begun to be forgotten, even most of them only know and have minimal application in everyday life, this can be seen with the absorption of understanding modernism, pragmatism, materialism, secularism, hedonism, and ethnocentrism. As for the forms of changes in the socio-cultural value of the Lontara script, there is an attitude of individualism in the millennial generation, behaving at will, discriminating against, dependence, loosening of ties, feeling insecure and promiscuity, consumptive behavior, and a lack of understanding of the millennial generation of cultural understanding.
