Agricultural Centers are a coalition of organizations and individual members with a common purpose: to improve the health and safety of the agricultural community. Successful leadership and governance are essential in accomplishing these goals. This article examined the effectiveness of a midwestern Agricultural Health and Safety Center (Ag Center) leadership and governance structure. The Internal Coalition Outcomes Hierarchy (ICOH) framework and the Internal Coalition Effectiveness (ICE©) instrument were used, with field visit interviews conducted to gain further insight. Combined comparative findings from both research methods showed that scores in each of the categories increased. Adjustments led to stronger collaborative leadership, vital to successful population health improvement programs. This study showcases coalition qualities in a broader environment, capturing a clearer depiction of leadership and member interaction. Field visit interviews confirmed that this midwestern Ag Center continued to have strong levels of effectiveness in each of the conceptual constructs of a coalition.

The first report of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) was presented in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, in December 2019 (1). COVID-19 is an infectious virus with a high level of spread. According to its fast pandemic condition in the world, it has been announced as an emergency of public health by the World Health Organization (WHO) related to its fast pandemic condition (1-3). Movements of population, communication among humans, and environmental factors cause the transfer of this virus. The most prevalent clinical symptoms include fever, cough, headache, muscle cramps, and fatigue (4). Different industries in different countries have faced many problems and even there were many days off in the world after the COVID-19 pandemic. The pharmaceutical industry, among all industries, has a unique and exclusive sensitivity according to the necessity in the production of pharmaceutical products. The pharmaceutical industry has been important since the past years as a complementary part of the primary process in the treatment of the patients that shows the significance of development in this industry. In the COVID-19 pandemic situation, pharmaceutical companies try to respond to the challenges in the supply chain, change the business process, and protect the health of the staff. If the epidemic of COVID-19 continues for a medium/long time, this will affect active supplies, necessary materials, and medication export/import. Moreover, it causes adverse effects on research and development (R&D) activities, production, and developmental projects related to improving the industry. Although the effect of global expansion has not been apparent yet, pharmaceutical companies should respond, improve, and develop. Therefore, during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, pharmaceutical companies should continue their activities and even develop it while facing many challenges. Moreover, it will help them detect the challenges and approaches of development in safety and health in pharmaceutical companies during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Challenges of pharmaceutical companies in the COVID-19 pandemic situation include: 1) Hiding or lack of reports in COVID-19 affection; 2) Lack of appropriate monitoring of distribution vehicles in the prevention of infection; 3) Continual contacts with documents and internal permissions of products leading to the lack of supervision of health principles; 4) Production in closed and limited space; 5) Continual production line and necessity of team working; 6) Commotion of the personnel with public transportation and lack of knowledge in family health; 7) The physical presence of staff in administrative positions (R&D, marketing, IT, and planning); 8) Serving food in the restaurant of the company (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack); 9) Closing of air conditioning system in departments; 10) Lack of correct extrusion of produced wastes; 11) Lack of the attention of personnel on their health; and 12) The entrance of infected products and raw materials to the COVID-19. Solutions in safety and health improvement of pharmaceutical company in facing COVID-19 pandemic include: 1) Disinfection of the external surface of the vehicles which contain materials and raw materials barrels at the entrance; 2) Use of electronic forms for documentation, product permissions, other production processes, quality control, and Health and Safety Executive ; 3) Use of distancing between the personnel with separator and fresh air injection into the rooms with building management system equipment; 4) Supply of mask and shield for all staff in sufficient number, and control of the use, extirpation, and protection of documents; 5) Use of masks with cartridge and N95 pad in administrative departments in exposure to chemical materials and changing them according to standard; 6) Assignment of the dedicated vehicles to the staff communication and their disinfection; 7) The necessity of using masks by the staff during transportation; 8) Provision of the opportunity for administrative staff to work from long distance; 9) Installation of the bags and buckets for sanitary wastes (mask, gloves, and tissue); 10) Disinfection of air conditioning system based on WHO rules; 11) Disinfection of all spaces and surfaces per hour or after use; 12) Installation of automatic disinfection equipment at the entrance of all buildings and busy places; 13) Introduction of COVID-19 as a job sickness to fast identification and self-declaration of the staff and elimination of transferring chain; 14) Assignment of subvention to treatment and leave of absence with salary for COVID-19 patients; 15) Psychological consultation and call contact with COVID-19 patients; 16) Online monitoring of the personnel and their families with an online questionnaire; 17) Transfer and management of waste by mechanizing systems and trained executive team with personal protection equipment; 18) Arrangement of all internal and external meetings online; 19) Presentation of all training courses in online classes (sky-room webinar); 20) Risk assessment in facing COVID-19 patients based on age, background illness, facing jobs, and a team of colleagues; 21) Non-public quarantine of the staff according to the importance of medicine production; 22) Specialization in COVID-19 tests for a suspicious person; 23) Distribution of self-protect equipment and disinfectants among the staff’s families; 24) Quarantine of suffering, suspicious people or those who were in contact with suffering patients; 25) Quarantine of the products in the warehouse to eliminate the transporting chain of the infected products. Conclusion The pharmaceutical stability of industry and permanent presence is an inseparable part of treatment teams in the world. Therefore, the necessity of continual observation of environmental health in pharmaceutical companies and the staff health could develop the efficiency, health protection of the personnel, and consumers in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Controlling the challenges, as the next step, helps the presence of pharmaceutical companies in the current condition. Therefore, international, national, and local organizations should emphasize the revision of health and safety standards in the workplace. In addition, the self-declaration of industries and physical observation is necessary to conduct the suggested solutions for the personnel health as a staff in the health area.

Providing a safe and healthy workplace is one of the most effective strategies in for holding down the cost of doing construction business. It was a part of the overall management system to facilitate themanagement of the occupational health and safety risk that are associated with the business of the organization. Factors affected the awareness level inclusive of safety and health conditions, dangerous working area, long wait care and services and lack of emergency communication werethe contributed factors to the awareness level for the operational level. Total of 122 incidents happened at Telekom Malaysia Berhad as compared to year 2015 only 86 cases. Thus, the main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between safety and health factors and the awareness level among operational workers.The determination of this research was to increase the awareness level among the operational level workerswho committing to safety and health environment.

This chapter focuses on conducting worksite investigations, including walkthrough surveys, and provides occupational health and safety personnel, employees, and employers the opportunity to identify and assess current workplace conditions and employee health concerns and make recommendations on how to reduce or eliminate any identified workplace hazards. The methods described cover ways to implement corrective actions necessary for preventing future adverse incidents and to identify shortcomings in safety and health management programs. Various specific examples are provided. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Hazard Evaluation Program, which has experience with all types of workplace hazards, is described. Preparing for and conducting workplace investigations is described in detail.

BACKGROUND: Although using forklifts in industrial sites contributes to productivity, many workers have been injured or killed owing to industrial accidents caused by forklifts. OBJECTIVE: This study analyzed the characteristics of forklift accidents by employment type and work process, thereby identifying the factors contributing to industrial accidents and providing recommendations to prevent accidents. METHODS: Data on 1,061 industrial forklift accidents occurring in 2018 collected from the national injury insurance compensation database were analyzed. In addition to analyzing the accident characteristics, this study performed a risk assessment per forklift work process. RESULTS: Many accidents were associated with older workers, those employed for <  6 months, and workplaces with ≤49 workers. The risk was the highest for accidents involving caught-in objects in the loading/unloading step and collision accidents in the forward- and backward-driving steps. CONCLUSIONS: Measures are needed to prevent industrial forklift accidents. First, forklift and worker movement routes must be strictly separated or controlled by a work supervisor. It is necessary to secure a time margin for workers to avoid collapsing cargo by using an appropriate tool/jig during loading/unloading. Second, guidance, inspection, and support are needed to promote employers’ safety and health awareness in workplaces with <  50 workers. Lastly, intensive education and training concerning health and safety is required for workers with less than six months of experience.

IntroductionMass gatherings pose a significant risk on health and safety. The mass gathering in the subway systems in Beijing represents a daily risk. An average of 4.52 million passengers rode the subway each day between 15 November and 30 November 2010, with the highest daily passenger number totaling 5.14 million. The purpose of this study is to identify the health and safety aspects of mass gatherings in Beijing subways, and proposes strategies that may mitigate these risks.MethodsThe methods included a literature review, field visitation of the subway systems, and interviews of 20 passengers and 10 management personnel from the subway system.ResultsMany safety and health measures has been taken by the Beijing Subway System, including emergency exit signs and other safety signs, prohibition of smoking, firefighting equipment and explosion-proof tanks, safety inspection of bags, and safety education in the subways. However, additional key health and safety aspects were indentified, including: (1) lack of strict flow control of passengers in interchange subway stations; (2) lack of platform safety gates in Line 1, Line 2, Line 13; (3) lack of passenger control during peak hours; (4) lack of biomedical monitoring systems in the subways; and (5) lack of health facilities and rescue equipments in the subways.ConclusionsMass gatherings pose great risks on subway passengers in Beijing, including psychosocial risks, biomedical risks, and environmental risks. Additional safety measures need to be taken to ensure the safety and health of passengers in subways in Beijing.

The European Directive on Safety and Health at Work and the following normatives have the scope to provide high levels of health and safety at work, based on some general principles managing activities and including the risk assessment to continuously improve processes and workplaces. However, the working area changes and brings new risks and challenges for workers. Several of them are associated with new technologies, which determine complex human–machine interactions, leading to an increased mental and emotional strain. To reduce these emerging risks, their understanding and assessment are important. Although great efforts have already been made, there is still a lack of conceptual frameworks for analytically assessing human–machine interaction. This paper proposes a systematic approach that, beyond including the classification in domains to explain the complexity of the human–machine interaction, accounts for the information processing of the human brain. Its validation is shown in a major accident hazard industry where a smart safety device supporting crane related operations is used. The investigation is based on the construction of a questionnaire for the collection of answers about the feeling of crane operators when using the device and the evaluation of the Cronbach’s alpha to measure of the reliability of the assessment.

In early 2005, the Vera Institute of Justice launched the Commission on Safety and Abuse in America's Prisons (CSAAP). In June 2006, the Commission released its report about the safety and health conditions in U.S. prisons and jails, Confronting Confinement, at a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing. This article summarizes how CSAAP recommendations have affected national policy. The Confronting Confinement report and the conversations that arose during the hearings held prior to it continue to fuel debate, provide support for needed change, and encourage efforts to ensure the health and safety of prisoners and staff alike. Keeping prison conditions at the forefront of concern remains a challenge, especially given the urgent need to reduce the size of the incarcerated population.

ABSTRAK Rumah Potong Hewan merupakan suatu bangunan yang memiliki desain dan konstruksi khusus digunakan sebagai tempat pemotongan hewan. Aktivitas kerja di RPH memiliki potensi bahaya yang dapat mengancam keselamatan dan kesehatan kerja. Berdasarkan observasi awal, RPH Kota Pekanbaru ini tidak memiliki laporan bulanan maupun tahunan mengenai data kecelakaan, dan juga belum pernah melakukan identifikasi, dan penilaian terhadap bahaya yang ada. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis keselamatan kesehatan kerja (K3) terhadap risiko bahaya lingkungan fisik di tempat kerja dengan metode “HIRARC” (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control). Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif analitik. Lokasi penenlitian dilakukan di rumah potong hewan Kota Pekanbaru, penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2020. Informan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 6 orang, sebagai informan utama yaitu Kepala UPTD, 2 orang informan pendukung yaitu koordinator lapangan dan dokter hewan, dan informan kunci yaitu pekerja, metode yang digunakan peneliti yaitu wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan potensi bahaya tingkatan risiko “Ekstrim” seperti diseruduk sapi pada proses penggiringan sapi menuju killing box, tertimpa katrol dan sapi pada proses penggantungan dan pemindahan sapi menggunakan katrol. Rumah Potong Hewan belum pernah melakukan identifikasi bahaya, penilaian risiko akan tetapi untuk pengendalian risiko sudah dilakukan beberapa upaya di rumah potong hewan, seperti SOP, Shift kerja, dan juga APD. Rekomendasi yang diberikan yaitu diharapkan sebaiknya RPH memiliki fasilitas yang berhubungan dengan kesehatan pekerja. Perlu adanya upaya pengendalian risiko secara engineering control, contohnya, membuat kerangkeng sapi. administrative control, seperti, memberikan sosialisasi, maintenance, housekeeping dan inspeksi, terhadap alat, mesin dan pekerja. ABSTRACTSlaughterhouse is a building having the design and construction specifically used as animal slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouse’s work activities have potential of hazards which can cause harm to workers’ safety and health. Based on pre observation, the slaughterhouse in Pekanbaru does not have any monthly and annual report about the data of accident. This livestock production also has no doing identification and assessment of hazard. The purposes of this study are to analyze occupational health and safety toward risk of danger physical environment at work, this study uses Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control “HIRARC” method which using likelihood and severity level of each hazard as references to define a risk value. There are 6 informants the maininfromants is a UPTD head, 2 supporting informants are the field coordinator and venetarian, and the key informant is a worker, The methode that use in this study is interview And observation. The study shows that the most extreme are getting hit by a cow in cattle herding to killing box, falling of a cow hoist material from conveyor railing in shackling and hoisting process. Slaughterhouse has never done hazard identification and risk assessment. However, for risk control have done several attempts in slaughterhouse, such as Standard Operating Procedures, work shifts, and Personal Protective Equipment. Recommendation is given that the slaughterhouse should has facilities related to health of workers. Recent trends in the organization of work have increased the risk of occupational safety and health (OSH) in Kenyan industries through exposure to hazardous substances, work related accidents and increased stress-related illnesses. According to International lab our organization (ILO) everyone is entitled to the right to safe and healthy working conditions and therefore the corpus of law in Kenya dealing with occupational safety and health should be embedded in the international OSH legal instruments. Specifically the occupational health and safety Act (2007) is expected to provide for safety, health and welfare of workers and all persons lawfully present at workplaces. The purpose of this study therefore was to investigate legal framework as a determinant of implementation of occupational health and safety programmes in the manufacturing sector in Kenya. It focused on six legal areas predicted as affecting implementation of OSH. These factors were national OSH policy, OSHA (occupational safety and health Act) familiarity with OSHA, government OSH inspections and audits, ease of implementation of OSHA, Government support in the implementation of OSH and OSHA implement ability. The study adopted descriptive cross-sectional survey design but however intended to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. A self administered questionnaire was used to collect data from 257 OSH officers drawn randomly from 735 manufacturing industries registered by Kenya manufacturers association. 252 questionnaires were received back and analyzed with the help of SSPS window version 21. Both correlation and regression analysis were conducted and the results showed that there was a positive significant relationship between legal framework and implementation of OSH programmes.

Occupational Safety and Health Experts in Indonesia have an important role in integrating environmental health and safety factors, including in this regard as human resources assigned to undertake hazardous waste management. Comprehensive knowledge and competence skills need to be carried out responsibly, as an inherent professional occupational safety and health profession. Management leaders should continue to provide training in external agencies responsible for science in the management of toxic waste to enable occupational safety and health experts to improve their performance in the hierarchy of control over the presence of hazardous materials. This paper provides an overview of what strategies and competencies the Occupational Safety and Health expert needs to have in embracing hazardous waste management practices.
