This resource review describes the web-based Change Management Simulation: Power and Influence by Harvard Business Publishing and discusses its application in both undergraduate and graduate courses. The simulation focuses on personal and organizational change factors that influence the adoption of a sustainability initiative within a manufacturing firm. Students experience leading strategic change in different contexts given the instructor’s ability to assign different authority levels and change urgencies. We provide an overview of the simulation and suggestions for introducing, playing, and debriefing the simulation. We also briefly discuss the strengths and limitations of this supplemental pedagogy.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore and present current trends and developments in the field of managers’ perceptions of trust and the management of change in Cyprus, Greece and Romania, in a period of strategic organizational change. A total of 126 managerial employees (communication managers, operation managers, quality control managers, safety & environmental managers, and office managers) working in different departments of organizations in Cyprus, Greece, and Romania respond and complete the online questionnaire.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative study using an online questionnaire with interview questions was developed to arrive at the study’s findings. To acknowledge relevant perceptions of trust and the management of change during organizational change in different organizations in Cyprus, Greece and Romania, unique questions helped to support the research results and highlight themes that emerged from interview sessions with the study participants.FindingsThe findings highlight the need for organizational leadership to establish mutual trust and effective communication with managerial employees for successful cooperation during times of strategic change and enhanced overall employee performance. This study is relevant for researchers and academics in the areas of change management and communication, presenting current trends and developments in perceptions of trust and change management in Cyprus, Greece and Romania. It may also help them achieve recognition among their peers and colleagues from other disciplines.Research limitations/implicationsAn important implication of the study derives from the finding on the uniqueness of the knowledge and information work carried out by the respondents and the impact that this can have in their working environment and their productivity. As a result of the above, this study provides indications to recruiters and managers regarding a number of desirable and necessary skills, and motivational factors that future employees may need to have or develop in order to carry out their job efficiently and effectively.Practical implicationsResearching managerial employees’ perceptions of trust and the management of change in organizations can have significant implications for human resources management during a time of strategic change.Social implicationsThis research study may contribute to the management and communication area in European countries in stimulating new approaches to management and social issues and in the corporate management practice.Originality/valueThis study produces new knowledge instead of summarizing what is already known in a new form in the area of management and corporate communication. The researcher reports the results in analysis and interprets the results by discussing possible implications and solutions.

This research presents the Strategic Change Management index, an indicator measuring the level of maturity of organizations to address processes of organizational change. At present, there is no other available indicator that fulfills this function. The index is built using the information provided from an instrument (questionnaire) specially created for this purpose. The instrument was applied to a sample of 151 companies, mostly Chilean. Studies about reliability (Cronbach’s α, hierarchical ω coefficients, among others), and instrument validity (second-order confirmatory factor analysis and retrospective validity) are presented. These studies show that the instrument has good psychometric properties. The results show that the degree of maturity of the companies comprising the sample to face change processes is low: 87% of the companies have a basic, initial, or amateur level of maturity; 13% have a professional level; and only one company had an expert level. More validity studies are required. However, the absence of a similar available instrument restrains the realization of more in-depth validity studies at this time.

 KPPN Medan II is one of the government organization units at the Ministry of Finance. Where leaders and employees who work at KPPN Medan II always carry out official trips between cities and outside the city. With these conditions, making SPPD documents experiencing the intensity of official travel activities carried out by employees of KPPN Medan II can be said frequently. So that in making SPPD in KPPN Medan II is still using the manual method that is recording through Microsoft Word which in the sense is less effective and efficient. In naming employees who get official assignments, officers manually entering employee data that receives official travel letters are prone to being lost because data is manually written. The web-based SPPD application is built by applying this prototyping method which is expected to facilitate SPPD KPPN Medan II management officers in making SPPD that is effective, efficient, accurate, time-saving, and not prone to losing SPPD data of KPPN Medan II employees who will has made official trips due to the existence of a special database to accommodate all SPPD files.

The right and appropriate system of receiving and transferring goods is needed by the company. In the process of receiving and transferring goods from the central warehouse to the branch warehouse at PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja, Tangerang Regency, which is currently done manually is still ineffective and inaccurate because the Head of Subdivision uses receipt documents, namely PPBP and mutation of goods, namely MPPW in the form of paper as a submission media. The Head of Subdivision enters the data of receipt and mutation of goods manually and requires a relatively long time because at the time of demand for the transfer of goods the Head of Subdivision must check the inventory of goods in the central warehouse first. Therefore, it is necessary to hold a design of information systems for the receipt and transfer of goods from the central warehouse to a web-based branch warehouse that is already database so that it is more effective, efficient and accurate. With the web-based system of receiving and transferring goods that are already datatabed, it can facilitate the Head of Subdivision in inputing data on the receipt and transfer of goods and control of stock inventory so that the Sub Head of Subdivision can do it periodically to make it more effective, efficient and accurate. The method of data collection is done by observing, interviewing and studying literature from various previous studies, while the system analysis method uses the Waterfall method which aims to solve a problem and uses design methods with visual modeling that is object oriented with UML while programming using PHP and MySQL as a database.

To characterize the change management processes, barriers, policies and factors that currently favor medium and large companies of the Sugamuxi Valley. The type and method of study was descriptive – explanatory. The statistical technique used was descriptive analysis using 561 surveys in medium (22) and large (18) Sugamuxi Valley companies. The biggest barriers were: adherence to rules (51.2%), multidisciplinary professions (51%), imposing the criteria of the oldest workers (47.4%) and organizational structure (43.9 %). The stimuli were: support for patents and innovations (93%), support for artistic activities (90%) and scholarships for study (90%), event registration training (79.7%) and transportation to events (82.4%). The research reveals a low culture of change, with a lack of incentives and business forms of adaptability and flexibility.Este artículo muestra la carácterización de los procesos de gestión del cambio, barreras, políticas y factores que actualmente favorecen a las medianas y grandes empresas del Valle de Sugamuxi. El tipo y método de estudio utilizado fue descriptivo - explicativo. La técnica estadística utilizada fue el análisis descriptivo mediante 561 encuestas en medianas (22) y grandes (18) empresas del Valle de Sugamuxi. Los mayores obstáculos fueron: la adhesión a las normas (51,2 %), profesiones multidisciplinares (51 %), imposición de los criterios de los trabajadores más antiguos (47,4 %) y la estructura organizacional (43,9 %). Los estímulos fueron: el apoyo a las patentes e innovaciones (93%), apoyo a las actividades artísticas (90%) y becas de estudio (90 %), registro en eventos de capacitación (79,7 %) y transporte a los eventos (82.4 %). La investigación revela una baja cultura de cambio, con falta de incentivos y formas de negocio de adaptabilidad y flexibilidad.Este artigo apresenta a caracterização dos processos de gestão de mudança, barreiras, políticas e fatores que atualmente favorecem às médias e grandes empresas do Valle de Sugamuxl. O tipo e método de estudo utilizado foi o descritivo – explicativo. A técnica estatística utilizada foi a análise descritiva mediante 561 enquetes em médias (22) e grandes (18) empresas no Valle de Sugamuxl. Os maiores obstáculos foram: a adesão às normas (51,2 %), profissões multidisciplinares (51 %), imposição dos critérios dos trabalhadores mais antigos (47,4 %), e a estrutura organizacional (43,9 %). Organizations that are aiming to successfully implement change needs the support and acceptance of employees who are their key stakeholder. This study analyses the influence of Employees` attitude towards organization change. The research also aims at evaluating the influence of employees’ attitude towards commitment to organization and job after the introduction of change in the organization. The study was conducted among 300 employees who belonged to executive and managerial category from different star rated hotels in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India which are currently embracing organization changes. The findings indicate that employees of the study demonstrate a positive approach towards the change management in their organization. The observations also project that a positive approach by employees towards changes, is a very good indication for organizations to know that their workforce is committed towards the organizational goals. Hence with the support of change agents, adequate communications and by creating awareness about the need for change will result in sustainable growth in the organizations.
